Second shuffle
1. Woody Guthrie; They Laid Jesus Christ in His Grave (from the Library of Congress Recordings) 2. John Lennon - Oh Yoko (from Working Class Hero) 3. The Clash - Give 'Em enough Rope (from English Civil war) 4. David Cross - Light Up Atlanta (from La Zona Rosa, Austin, 2002) 5. Jennifer Lara - Consider Me (from Studio One women_ Soul Jazz Records Presents compilation) 6. Thunder and rain sound FX (that's right, I have random sound samples/effects mixed in!) 7. Monty Python - wrestling (from Live at The City Center) 8. The Doors - Texas Radio and the Big Beat (from In Concert) 9. The Residents - The New Machine/Final Reconstruction (from Mark of the Mole) 10. Shirley Scott and the Soul Saxes - Messie Bessie (from Right On! Vol. 3 compilation)
A bit of comedy in this mix. and I noticed religious songs in both, which is odd since I'm not particularly religious. And more Residents! (can't get enough though).
edit--- Might I add that a 6-second crossfade just makes for the perfect, uninterrupted stream of sound.

tonight's lovely shuffle includes:
1) Simon & G-funk - The Only Living Boy in New York 2) Tori Amos - A Case of You 3) Perpetual Groove - Two Shores 4) Cary Brothers - Blue Eyes 5) The Kooks - Got No Love 6) Death Cab for Cutie - Debate Exposes Doubt 7) Exit 245 (college a Capella group) - Kung Fu Fighting 8) Bob Marley - I Shot the Sheriff 9) Wilco - Company in my Back 10) Rock Kills Kid - Don't Want to Stay 11) Bob Marley - Jamming 12) Dispatch - Drive 13) Radiohead - Optimistic 14) Tori Amos - Cornflake Girl (live) 15) My Morning Jacket - O Is the One that is Real
so, out of just over 10,000 songs my shuffle managed to repeat Tori Amos and Bob Marley twice in just 15 songs. I think I need a new shuffler.
^^^LOL! Yeah, my shuffler has the same problem! It got hung up on the same old same old too! Again with CC - Love Him but...so much great stuff to choose from ??? come on.... So for round two I had to extend to a bakers dozen to squeeze in some really great bands that don't come up that often on shuffle....I think it's non-mainstream prejudice thing....
All Night Thing - Temple of the Dog Trees - Marty Casey and The Lovehammers Bullet With Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins How I Could Just Kill A Man - Rage Against The Machine F**kin' in the Bushes - Oasis She'll Never Be Your Man - Chris Cornell Say Hello 2 Heaven - Temple of the Dog Give - Audioslave People Of The Sun - Rage Against The Machine Alright - Tantric Moth - Audioslave Revolve - Melvins Better All The Time - Scene Creamers

John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
OK, I am beginning to see a marked resemblence between Apple's shuffle and a lot of my ex-lovers.....they both would rather stick to what they KNOW you like than take ANY chances on anything NEW (and potentially EXCITING....wtf?) shuffle my arse...I deleted a shitload of stuff off my ipod and loaded a lot of new stuff tonight and NOT A SINGLE NEW SONG I loaded made it onto the list...sigh. But at least a few I haven't heard in a while surfaced so maybe the reload did some good......though there is still a lot of stale stuff going down.

All those complaining about lack of randomness (assuming you're on iPod/iTunes), go to Edit > preferences> playback and drag the smart shuffle slider to the right. It's not a failure that it puts tracks together, it's a design feature.
^^^Wouldn't that only make a diff if you were playing from the Itunes library? All but one of mine have come directly from my Ipod and it doesn't have a smart shuffle setting. Mine was set smack in the middle for random on all my Itunes libraries......I don't use smart shuffle in general....which is probably why my settings were still set at random....which is essentially smart shuffle off.....don't sync my Ipod with my library automagically either since I have more than one library....

mmm, good point. I never really thought about it. I kinda thought that the iPod shuffle inherited the properties from iTunes, but I've no evidence for that, except that I often get the same artist popping up several times in close succession - never actually consecutive, but within 3 or 4 songs.
1) Hate To Feel- Alice in Chains (Dirt) 2) Sexual Healing- Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals (Live From Mars) 3) Funky Bitch- Phish (7/3/99 Atlanta, GA) 4) I Will Sing You Songs- My Morning Jacket (Bonnaroo 2006) 5) Searching With My Good Eye Closed- Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger) 6) Orson- Loppybogymi (Tup) 7) Maze- Phish (Live Phish: Volume 2) 8) Please Me Like You Want To- Ben Harper (Fight For Your Mind) 9) Better People- Xavier Rudd (Bonnaroo 2007 iTunes sampler) 10) The Pot- Tool (10,000 Days)
