No need to check under the mattress. I went camping this past weekend and woke up with the spots on Sunday so I thought they were bug bites. But they aren't getting any better, and in some cases, are getting bigger and itchier. I've had a few that have just appeared randomly after we got back.
I just need to vent for a minute, I know this is nothing compared to people who have lost homes and jobs but....
I work for a state agency that provides services to families of children under age 3 with disabilities. We're the ones that tell you your kids has Autism or CP or any other number of things. We help you find therapy that can help your kid as well as finding a way to help pay for it. We hold the hands of the parents of 26 week preemies who have been told their child is blind, etc. Folks are chronically underpaid but love what they do so we have a low turnover rate. Oh and all of this is offered in the family's home, whether that be a mansion, the projects or a trailer with no air conditioning.
In 2 hours I have to inform staff that we are merging with another agency that provides the same services we do but does it in a completely different way. This decision was announced to Management Tuesday and questions were all answered with a big pile of I Don't Knows. It was made by managers 3 levels above us who haven't been in a living room with a family in 20 years if at all. And not to get ALL political about it but this has nothing to do with the needs of the agency or families but this is a Republican mandate from our fucking Legislature!
I am so frustrated! We are to assure everyone that there will be no layoffs but looking at the O charts that seems to be an obvious pile of crap.

That last paragraph is the hardest part. Walking the line of following management's orders, but not lying to those who expect and deserve the truth from you can be very, very hard. My only advice is to state something like "we have been told that there will be no layoffs, but with the limited amount of information we have received and the short notice, all I can do is continue to keep you updated with any information I receive when I receive it."
Then if you have someone receptive in the mgmt chain, show them your perception of the future given the org chart you've seen and ask for an explanation so you can be truthful with folks.

I'm getting all sorts of mixed signals at work lately. Couple of weeks ago I get word from the owners that we have some serious financing coming down the pike, were going to be partnering with a couple of MLB franchises, and I'm flying off to Miami for a business conference, everything comped big ballin style.
Thursday last week some dude shows up and asks for the owner by name. He said the owner might not know he's here, so I ask the guy if I can tell the owner what it's in reference to? He says he's from Titan Recovery and he'll know what it's about, it's very important. Off I go to let the CEO know someone is here to see him.
The CEO says "Tell him I'm busy and can't see him now." Which he totally wasn't but he's the boss. So off I go to tell this guy the CEO can't see him today.
The guy's not leaving so easy. He says "This is a very important matter and it would very much be to his benefit if he speaks to me NOW."...well shit.
So off I go to tell the CEO that the guy he told me to tell to go away says it's super urgent and blah blah blah...The CEO says, "Just tell him I'm busy, I can not see him, I'm on a conference call." Which he totally wasn't but....well fuck. ???
Off I go again. I repeat the CEO's message verbatim. As I'm doing it that asshole walks out of his office in clear view of the dude, sees him, and walks the other way. "That was him wasn't it?" the guy says. Totally obvious that I just lied right to his face. Well Fuck AND Shit. Seriously?
I've never seen this guy but he looks cut. He could tie me into a pretzel. He's clearly frustrated and I don't know how ugly things are going to get. I drop the facade and say "Look man, I just work here. He's my boss. I don't know what to tell you except that he is telling me that he will not see you."
Dude puts his hands up in the universal gesture for "whatever", walks out the door and proceeds to REPO THE OWNER'S CAR.
This week goes by as normal, I'm hearing the same "BIG things are coming, and we got some very motivated people who will be financing us, we're going to need to hire probably around 30 people, you're going to love Miami they are hooking us up "
TODAY: I show up just as my immediate superior is driving away. No one from the executive level is here so I'm in charge of the ship. No big deal. It's not to uncommon, though a bit odd for a Thursday. Eh, C'est la vie.
So this guy from the power company shows up interrupting my game of minesweeper and asks to speak with the office manager. "I'm the most senior person on staff today, what can I help you with?"
"I'm here to cut the power." {sound of a needle being suddenly dragged off a record}
"Uhh...What?" <-Exact quote.
Turns out he'd spoken with the COO and she knew he was coming. So I call my immediate superior (who conveniently dipped out the second I showed up) asking if he knew what the fuck was going on. Oh yeah, he'd spoken with the COO and she told him the power was being cut today because they owe like umpteen grand to the power company. Way to keep me in the loop dude.
"Is this something I need to be seriously concerned about?" "Nahh. They'll have it back on this weekend. It's not going to be like it was in May." (See the drunkin rambling thread for THAT story) He's a reliable source of information and I trust him so we'll see. But seriously WTF is going on around here??!!?? I can has to panic now?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Any employer who has repo services showing up at their place of employment and pulling their car off the lot? Run away from that job like your f*ckin' hair is on fire.
People who can't keep their personal and business finances separate are not capable of making decisions that benefit the company more than themselves. There are exceptions, like with anything, but unless you think the owner of your company is an exception, he's probably the rule. It sounds like you have a selfish boss, one who apparently doesn't want to be bothered with taking care of their responsibilities, so they leave their subordinates on the firing line in their place. Nice.
I work closely with power companies, and for them to cut the power off on what sounds like a relatively big company it means your company probably hasn't paid its bill in at least 1/2 a year.
If you have the chance to find a job doing similar work for similar pay, I'd seriously consider doing it.
And thus ends today's episode of "life advice from people you have never met."

Ha! It's just weird man. On the one hand I'm seeing, not just hearing, signs that things are going well and getting better, while simultaneously seeing signs that shit is falling apart fast.
Due to a no compete clause in my employment contract I can't work for any similar employers within 50 miles for 6 months.
Monkybunny, I would be careful what you post. If you are senior enough to have a non-compete, you probably have a confidentiality, non-disparagement, and / or non-solicit clause as well. In the event that the deal with Miami goes through, it may not be good to have this floating out there. Even if it falls through, you don't want to be in violation. You don't know who else is on this site either lurking or posting. You have been fairly careful about hiding where you work, but someone could put it together.

You generally have to be pretty senior for a non-compete to be legal. A non-compete cannot prevent you from making a living. So, perhaps you cant work the same job title but normally they cant prevent you from taking a job with a similar company.
Having worked at a company that went through bankruptcy, while still employing 150+ people and for one that was close until it was bought out, I think you should look. It sounds like the finances need to be substantially altered to make the business sustainable. Which I would expect means purchase of the company or reduction of assets.
Got paid this morning, paid the mortgage, went to work, found our gamestop finally started doing pre-orders on the wii-u...leave work all excited headed straight to gamestop, pre-ordered it and smb wii-u, got to my car. FLAT TIRE! Changed it out in the parking lot, got about 50 yards down the road...spare went flat! Luckily there was a wal-mart a couple hundred yards away. It only took them 3 f'n hours.

I appreciate the concern but like you said I've been very deliberately vague about the company name and our potential investors. I'm one seriously paranoid android. I used to be a professional skip tracer and I keep that training in mind when I post stuff about me. With a little digging you will find out my name is Adam, I live in the greater Metropolitan Atlanta area, I'm a liberal, I make noisy toys even more noisy and I'm a die hard Residents fanatic. Like seriously I fucking LOVE The Residents.

LOL...lots of stuff by me, and lots of stuff by embarrassing teenagers and porn stars using the same handle. I really hope I never get blamed for either of the latter. But then again, there's enough stuff out there to embarrass me anyway...that's why I work in a field where (I'm pretty sure) nobody cares if I'm an idiot.
Do you use a proxy server when you connect to this board? I'd worry less about people finding you via google, and more that if you got into a beef with your employer, they could very easily see these posts, prove that your posts belong to you, and possibly use it against you.

Nahh. They know I slack. So long as get my work done and don't screw stuff up I'm pretty much allowed to do what I please within reason. I haven't said anything that isn't true. Also me and the IT guys are pretty tight, we've shared some corn and whoop it up at various watering holes now and then.
