Yeah, it is bonkers. I don't honestly know if they have reasonable people there, CKS- we spoke to about 20 different customer reps the past 2 months and they keep telling us that there are no "higher ups" or supervisors that will talk to us about this problem. I think we have to go to their main office and firmly ask to speak to someone there. And then after that, file a complaint with the state's insurance commission. Maybe we'll call the local news stations to see if anyone wants to hear our story
Serious GRRRRR has been going on for quite some time in my life: health insurance company has been denying my husband's claim for a hernia surgery he had done in early September. Of all things! A friggin hernia surgery- routine, simple hernia surgery and from the very beginning of all this, Highmark has been nothing but jerks- excuse after excuse on why the claim won't be accepted. BUT back in August, of course they said, "Yes, under the terms, conditions of your plan, of course your hernia surgery will be covered." The surgeon told us, "Oh, don't worry, the insurance company will definitely cover this. It's a routine thing. It wasn't diagnosed before you took out the policy with Highmark, so not a problem."
And, here we are, a statistic, a soundbite on a political platform, another American family being jacked over by their health insurance company, denied. Feeling powerless. But only over a hernia surgery? I mean, its going to cost us thousands, don't get me wrong, but denied claims have bankrupted some folks.
The reason has changed 3 or 4 times now with Highmark on why we're being denied- but essentially the wrong code was processed in the beginning (provider plugged in the wrong code) so we all got that straightened away, had to determine what the right code was, get it processed. But then Highmark still didn't approve the claim- why we ask them?- "oh, there is another code processing. we aren't sure what it could be?" they tell us. Hmmm, ok, and finally, yesterday, they tell us the code was for tobacco use (yes, he does smoke, and Highmark knows that and we pay a premium for that) so now, insurance company is saying that he is denied based upon tobacco use!!!! If you all didn't know this, apparently smoking causes hernias! That's what I gather from all this: smoking causes hernias, look out guys.
They won't tell us who submitted this code- the doctor's office certainly didn't- and from all the forms we've received in the mail, neither did the hospital or the anesthesiologist. And what in the world does smoking have anything to do with a hernia??? I feel like I am losing my mind. I have a horrible temper and it's about to show.
I needed to vent! Sorry so long. We'll do battle with the insurance company. I just wanted to say that our health care system is completely quacked. What is the point of even buying insurance in this country?
That is outrageous! I don't know that it would help but I would write everything down and send it in letter form via the mail and have them sign for it. Long story short my Mom got denied a few years ago so I wrote a HUGE appeal letter (5 pages probably) and sent it off. After months of problems I got a letter back saying our appeal was accepted with in weeks.

I liked your post because you won the battle but it is so unfortunate that you had to go through the stress and aggravation at all. The problems we're having with all this has almost become a part-time job!
I would just like to say to anyone reading this grrrr today- take a lesson from me: Before you get a surgery or an expensive procedure done, get a pre-approval of some sort from your insurance company. Just try to get something in writing beforehand that may come in handy in case you find yourself being denied.
This is why we need universal health care in this country. This current system we got, for profit, is an absolute joke.
For profit healthcare is tantamount to keeping the poor and working class strapped near the poverty line. I'm a hardliner on the need for a public option - it's crazy that we rely on public corps (who have to demand increased revenues EVERY year to stay in the marketplace - which is beyond insane for something sustainable like health).
I don't want to say it's on purpose, but it's clear that the late 70's and 80's disconnection of funding towards hospitals and mental care has made the hospitals unconscious beasts of profit.
Wow, JHo, I haven't been on in a few days and I'm just blown away by your "double whammy". I will hold you, your friends and family close in my thoughts. Please keep us updated and let me know if I can be a resource for any type of information.

Thank you zen! I just learned that my friend's sister will start chemo next week; she'll be getting 20 weeks worth. Then she'll have a double mastectomy in the spring, followed by radiation treatment. The tumor is 4cm long so they want to try to shrink it with the chemo. Scary stuff for a 28-year-old Please keep her in your thoughts.
My grandmother came home from the hospital yesterday. She had to stay longer because she fell sometime during the night on Friday in her hospital room. The nurses found her on the floor and were unsure how long she had been there She was just bruised up a lot.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
This is a stupid thing to be mad about but I am. I'm way behind on my bills so I thought I'd round up a bunch of stuff to sell on eBay. Most of it is stuff like CD covers and magazines that I won in radio sweepstakes and is autographed by various bands. Mostly smaller bands such as Cage The Elephant, Aiden, All That Remains, The Offspring, etc. I thought I would go to each of the band's websites and mention my auction on the message boards. I figure that the fans are the ones that would be the most interested in this stuff. Well, I sign up for the message board, I introduce myself in the correct thread and I participate in a couple of the other threads. Then I mention my auction and BAM! I get banned. I don't get it. I always try to be courteous and interact with the fans before I mention my auction. I really like these bands and want to be part of their community but the second I mention selling anything, even if I think it is something they would be interested in, I get banned as being a spammer. I don't know. Maybe I am a spammer. I just need this stuff to sell so my car doesn't get repossessed.

EVERYONE is sick here at work. There are only 7 people in our office and everyone has something ranging from the sniffly-sneezies to pink eye to strep.
I am mooging it up next week, and will not have time to be sick, so I am washing my hands every 10 minutes like an OCD freak to avoid the plague. I may go buy some disinfecting wipes on my lunch break.
Everyone is wanting to talk in close proximity, too!

Get yourself a SARS mask!!!! NO SICK CKS AT MOOG!
Haha, they should be wearing them!!!
I've seriously worn one of those masks on an airplane before. The person behind me was coughing up a fit during the bird flu epidemic. I slipped that thing on and didn't care how crazy I looked, I didn't get sick!
Load up on the vitamins and garlic, CKS. Remember to lotion your hands good too or pretty soon they're gonna feel like sandpaper from all the washing.
From, Someone with OCDs and who hasn't been sick in years (knockin' on wood all over the place now)
Yeah GARLIC!!!! i effing LOVE garlic. eat garlic WHILE wearing a sars mask. then people will STAY AWAY from you bc you smell AND you're crazy. BRILLIANT plan Wannaberooer.

(Garlic and onion powders are the best way to season a food without dousing it with hard salts - also better for you. Great tips from Jamaican grandmothers, aunts and such)

Garlic and honey are great immune boosters and delicious! Yes, lol, when I cook with garlic, I stink for a solid day. But, it's a price worth paying. I love fresh garlic- just peel it with gloves on if you want to avoid the stank.

Get yourself one of these and wear it right on through Moog:
So chump m----------- asks me to be early to his stupid f'ng call time after asking me to work at `10pm at night while I'm at a show. I want to punch this a---hole already. I hate you, you ruined my night and you also ruined my weekend becasue you won't pay me right either. I want to just say f this and stay in bed. Because I hate all of this low paying ------- asking for favors from me. I'm tired of it. I feel so f'ng abused all the time
I fee like a slave at my job and in my own home. I need to get out of here. I have to both move and find a way to get paid correctly for my job. Both some impossible because I'm not the right anything

Not a new grr. just a follow up that doesn't quite belong in "Catch a Feeling" ->
Free Primus ticket + wonky night + lonliness = meh but free ticket -- so I paid that ish forward to the girls who are treating me like crap downstairs. Why? because. because I like doing nice things for people and it's the only thing that ever makes me feel better. shrug
(with Honey Whiskey of course, Tennessee's finest Jack Daniels)

It is with a heavy heart that I leave you all, because you have been a constant source of joy and love these last two years on here and in person. The times we spent together were truly the happiest days of my life.
But when you lose the trust and respect of those you hold most dear, there is no joy. I have lost the people I love most - even more than my own family - and this has broken my heart.
The fact I have let some of you down is a millstone around my neck and something for which I can neither expect your understanding or forgiveness nor ever forgive myself.
"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." ~Albert Schweitzer
I am grateful to every one of you who helped rekindle my spirit when I joined two years ago at a time when I needed it most. You were once strangers on the internet who became my family of choice. It was the greatest blessing I ever knew. I wish you all the best and will miss you more than words can express. You're all wonderful people with great taste in music, amazing talents, and the biggest hearts on the planet. I will miss you all, and I love you.
