My mom passed away on tuesday. She had been sick so it wasnt unexpected but it still sucks.

A/C went out today. I called the A/C people and they said they couldn't be here until Sunday. It's 100 degrees in SC today, so of course I took the AC unit apart myself and found the capacitor was blown. I called around and discovered you can't just go to Home Depot or any other place and get a capacitor. So I called my friend, who is a maintenance man at a local apartment complex. He gave me one for free since I fixed his computer a few months back. They're only like $8, but it was a cool gesture, and saved me paying the A/C people a couple hundred, or waiting for 3 days to get one from Amazon. It was like 90 degrees in here a few hours ago. It's down to like 80 now and dropping.
Wasted two hours of my life on the phone with Verizon Wireless trying to sort out issues my parents are having in terms of coverage and data plans. Got the data plan issue sorted out for now, but its just ridiculous the hoops you have to jump through considering we pay a boatload of $ each month for their service. The sad thing is I'm the one having to defend Verizon because I know how shitty AT&T and Sprint are.
Can I get a jihad going against cellular providers in this country? This shit has got to change to a model a la Europe, where one pays a fraction of the cost for a whole lot of service. 'Murica!

It's been 15 years now, but when I was in the Navy I went to a Sprint store and got a cell phone. I told the clerk that I'd be deployed soon, so I didn't want a long service plan. He said that was fine because I could put a freeze on my account and just unfreeze it when I got back. That sounded good. Then just before I deployed I called Sprint and asked them to freeze my account. The operator said their was no such thing. After a few conversations with them and a big headache, I put my plan in an emergency mode, where I could only call 911 and had like 10 minutes or something. When I got back from the deployment I asked them to turn my service back to normal and they asked why I didn't just freeze my account while I was gone. I got my service turned back on, and a few months later, when my original plan would have expired I called to cancel. They said I started a new contract after the deployment and I verbally signed another 2 year contract over the phone. I hung up and never paid them another penny.
The last few days have been really rough. My cat has been really lethargic lately and has had some sinus problems. On Tuesday my wife said that he was starting to do a lot worse so we decided to take him in to the vet. I'm glad we did because the vet said he was dangerously anemic due to blood loss. I had no idea he was in danger of that because I didn't see any major scars on him and I did not know he was having that bad of a problem with fleas. He said that he was in critical condition and would probably need a blood transfusion if he did not get any better. He didn't. When we got home he just laid down under my computer desk. He drank a little out of the bowl that was right beside him, wouldn't eat and didn't have the power to make it to the litter box. That night we called told the vet his condition and he said he wanted to do a blood transfusion at 8 the next morning. Cool. 6:30 the following morning we get a call from the vet. He couldn't find any cat blood so he couldn't do the transfusion. They said there is one place that could help but the price was beyond out of our price range. I was freaking out. Latter I called the vet and asked them if there was anything else they could give us asides from the antibiotics to help and they said they had some pain medicine. Also they told me that it would take a while for him to be fully healed so as long as he was drinking that was a positive sign. That calmed me down. Up until then I was convinced he was about to die. I went got him the pain medicine and after that he started to get more active. He started being more alert and last night he stopped drinking out of the bowl beside him and started drinking from the bowl he normally drinks from. He seams a lot more alert too. I know he is not out of the woods yet but at least now he seams to be heading in a positive direction.
