GRRRRRRR When you really need someone to vent to and your work bff isn't in.
I don't usually post in here, but I need to get it out. Some of you might know that my brother is an addict. I just talked to him (to give him money to go into rehab, again, on behalf of my parents who are currently in Florida) and he gave me a 20 minute explanation as to why the feds are after him.
There are hidden cameras in his motel room- he's even downloading apps that can "detect" them. He feels drafts on the back of his neck while lying in bed and smoke goes the wrong direction.
He's being followed- every day, all day. He followed some old couple for 5 hours a few days ago until they drove through the North End of Hartford where 20 cars convened to make him lose them. Every time he passes a car on the side of the road, it pulls out behind him. He makes notes of the types of cars, colors, and license plates of those who follow him and he has "figured out" the patterns (certain plate combinations, certain colors, certain makes/models). He recently found a "body shop" that's housing 100 cars that fit this description. "You go to that shop and see for yourself"
The way his car looks and sounds when it unlocks has changed which means they've been playing with his car. He watches "hours of YouTube videos" on this and found out that your AM radio can tell you if a tracking device is in your car (it is). He takes the battery out of his phone when he doesn't need it so try to avoid tracking.
He says that they've hacked his phone so he can't turn off wifi, can't use the front facing camera (he began to try to take photos of the drivers of these cars), and other things are going weird.
So on.
"You just wait, a few months from now when the entire town of East Hartford is gone because of this federal investigation, you'll know I am not being crazy"
I should note
This is so painful. The upside to the paranoia is that he is (hopefully) checking himself into rehab today to hide from it all.
so so sorry Bonz! I have painful personal experience with both substance abuse and mental illness in my family and circle and I know how much it sucks. I truly hope he gets the right kind of help, and I will be holding you in the light.
I have the house to myself today and I'm not planning on going anywhere so I decided to just not get dressed and enjoy a lazy Sunday. Of course, around 3PM, the neighbor who I've never met before decides to stop by. I look like a hot mess.
Neighbor: "Hi, I'm Norman. I'm your neighbor down that way (points down the road). Do you live here alone?" Me: "Hi Norman, I'm Ally. No, I live with my parents. They are out of town today. It's nice to meet you." Norman: "Oh, are you going through a divorce?"
I know I look like crap wearing winter PJ's when it's 80 degrees out, smelling like a pig and having a bird's nest for hair but, still, what a rude question to ask. Now I feel like shit because I apparently look like a middle aged woman going through a divorce when I'm only 32 and have never been married.

Ew. Don't you dare feel bad about yourself. That guy is a dick. Who says that to someone? That goes right up there with asking a woman if she's pregnant.
Having the house to yourself feels so good. Do you and enjoy it!

That is such a presumptive and rude question! Did you close the door on his face immediately?

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Apparently, we have a pigeon problem around our AC unit, which is on our roof because the home builders in this area are insane. I've got one estimate to put in netting for $550 and another to build a full-on cage around the AC unit for $1900. I can sort of afford to do the $550 (although it won't feel good), but I have a feeling the $1900 is a better investment.

Is there any way this could be a DIY project? Idk if there are rules and regulations for this sort of thing and I have no clue what your AC setup is like obviously but I feel like those prices are incredibly exorbitant for what you've described.

Not really. Pigeon poop is apparently potentially full of nasty stuff that I don't think we want to be handling ourselves. Neither of us are particularly handy, so with it being on the roof, I don't think we'd be comfortable getting up there and trying to get it taken care of.
Both companies would come in and remove the nest that's there, power wash the area, and install the netting or cage. The $1900 would also involve building a structure out of 2x4s that the covering would be attached to. It seems like it would be a pretty stable structure that they would guarantee would last a good long time. The $550 would involve netting without the big structure, so it seems like it might not hold up as well to things like lots of wind (which can be an issue around here). The guy who quoted $1900 said they could also come in and just do the netting for around $600, but that it would have to be completely removed if we were to need any work done on the AC unit, which is how this came up in the first place. They got the AC working for now, but they weren't able to check everything because of the pigeon problem. The $550 guy said they could do netting that would have to be completely removed or netting that had fairly easy access, so we figure the easy access option might be an advantage in case we need more work done on the AC in the near future. The cage/2x4 structure would also allow relatively easy access, but of course, for way more money.
Both companies have good reviews on Angie's List and Yelp.
Dammit, I do have a hernia. I should have been a doctor. Waiting on them to come back in to schedule surgery.
Well poop. Hope they can get you in soon and have you back in tip top condition. Please keep us posted and let us know if there's anything at all we can do. Even if it's just listening! <3

this sucks. hernia surgery is no joke. for some reason recovery is super slow. keep that in mind when scheduling. thinking of you my love
I'm already on so many restrictions that I really dread this surgery. The damn binder is enough to make me go insane. And I can't lift anything over the size of a gallon of milk for SIX months. That craziness! I'm blaming myself, for my laundry OCD, but my surgeon told me with the laparoscopic procedure this is common. I just wish they had listened to me more when I went down there a month ago for it. I know for a fact it's gotten much larger over those 4 weeks.

I'd get a few more estimates for the type you want to have installed. Price isn't everything, but you could use other estimates to verify you are getting a good price or for negotiations with the contractor you like the most.

This sounds like a curse but I think it ends with you sitting in an easy chair ordering the family around at your every beck and call.

I love going to trivia night at a pizza place across from my house every week. So last night I went and of course there's a no phone policy unless you've already turned your answer in and are up with the moderator. I'm good buddies with the moderator since he also hosts an open mic night downtown. I was having a little chat with him while also checking my messages from the last two hours when this woman says "I can't believe your generation. You can't hold a conversation without being on your phones ugh".
I've never met such a vile and rude person before in my life.
Guess who is having surgery 8 days before Bonnaroo? I want to cry.
You can't get it earlier? Would delaying it a bit mess up your roo time? That sucks big time. Hopefully you still go and are able to get access camping or something along those lines to make it easier.

I was on the phone with them for 45 minutes this morning trying to figure it all out. I had planned on delaying it until the week I get back from Roo, but today I found out my surgeon is leaving the Monday after roo for a 3 week vacation. They don't want to push it into July. I could do it this Friday but I have my son's bday party Friday night & my daughter's recital Saturday night. Next week is Chicago & MD camping trip with the fam. June 1 was the only time that will work. I'll be in ADA & I will for sure use the platforms this year. And take it slow. And nap. And no (or very little alcohol) for me.

No worries, I got you covered...I'm good at being A Mom at Roo.

Fuck health issues and how expensive health insurance can be (even when you're covered).
Just as I'm getting ready to put the rest of my bill from my mouth surgery last month a credit card I start feeling pain/a lump in my foot, making it hard to walk or focus (cuz I keep feeling it/thinking about it). I really feel like a broken down old car where one thing gets fixed and then something else goes bad. It's always something relatively minor (not cancer or broken limbs or anything crazy) but it is so de-motivating. Now I need to figure out who accepts my insurance and go get this looked at. So frustrating.

I took both the boys to the eye doctor this morning. The eldest's eyes are fine, while the younger needs glasses. They wouldn't give me the pupillary distance without charging me an extra $25. I already knew they were going to try to get every penny they could. Once we walked in, the kids started looking at glasses and she directed them over to the designer ones saying, "These are the kid's glasses over here!" Once I said I wasn't paying $80 bucks for some Nike frames she shows me the free frames and all the other kid's glasses on every other stand they have in there. -.-

That's ridiculous! You can measure it for him, but they really should have just given it to you. The graphic below is from Zenni Optical. Josh and I both have glasses from them that have worked well for us. I did get one pair in the past that gave me a headache for some reason, but other than that, I have had three or four other pairs that were all good.
