First cassette was Poison - Open up and say Ahhh (w/ the censored cover).
Many years later I finally got my first CD player. Bought the Sup Pop 200 compilation, the Interview With a Vampire soundtrack, and nine inch nails - further down the spiral.
First vinyl were 2 12" singles - Nirvana Come as You Are picturedisc and Pearl Jam Go
I had that poison cassette too in second grade along with George Michael's faith,A couple of Wierd Al Yankovich tapes Even worse and Eat IT. I also had Michael Jackson's Bad, THe FatBoys, and Madonnas Like A Virgin.I also had that Sub Pop 200 cd back in the day and wish I still had it.
Ummmm...I have no idea....I was like literally 5.....as soon as I started getting an allowance I was buying 45s......probably the BeeGees or something.....maybe the Eagles? Whatever my Aunt Shelia thought was cool.... ;D She sang and played guitar and was blonde and gorgeous. I worshiped her. And my stupid uncle beat her..... And she was smart enough to leave his sorry ass. Sad for me, good for her. Sigh.....
1st music had to be a 45 and the 1st 45 I remember was "Monster Mash" which I bought at Pop Tunes in Memphis on a trip there when I was 9.
I always inherited LP's from my 9 older siblings so the 1st album I bought was a used LP by the Runaways called "Queens of Noise" from Hyacinth Records in Oak Ridge, TN for 25 cents.
Never bought a cassette that I can remember. Always bought LP's and recorded them to cassetes and stored LP as a pseudo-master copy.
1st CD was in 1989 when they quit making LP's and I bought about 20-30 at once to start replacing my collection. Can't remember what they were though as I bought about 100 that year.

Wow. I was a hilarious kid. My first music purchase was probably either
1) Richard Marx - Hold On To the Night 2) Something by Debby Gibson 3) NKOTB
I win the award for most improved in the taste department.
These weren't my first purchases, but they were early Jr. High ones. I'm right there behind you, I have Debbie, Marx, Tiffany, Rick Astley, Taylor Dayne, and at least a few others like that, all on vinyl... though I hide those in a box in a closet at my parents house, lest anyone get the wrong idea when flipping through my record collection. I think it was because the girls I would date loved all of that back then. Debbie Gibson grew up in the town next to mine, and I always hoped to meet her, thought she was hot... there's that too (no NKOTB though, probably because I was jealous of them and their appeal to the ladies)
Awesome! We had a Chipmunks country album (I have no idea why, not being big fans of country or the chipmunks!). For some reason, we only listened to it at Christmas.

First, you should know that I was born in 1981, so I wasn't around during the great 2 music decades of the 20th century - the 60's and 70's, however my tastes include mostly bands of those decades, and I want to build a time machine to go back to be 18-21 years old at the time of the original Woodstock or Monterey Pop cause I would've definitely been there, but here's where my music collecting obsession started:
First cassettes - Aerosmith - Big Ones, Eagles - Hell Freezes Over, James Taylor - Greatest Hits, The Beatles - Anthology Vol. 1, Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hits, Van Morrison - Greatest Hits
First CD's - Metallica - Black Album, Grateful Dead - Skeletons from the Closet, Led Zeppelin - 1 thru 4, Pink Floyd - Pulse
First concerts - 1997 - 16 years old - Metallica, Dave Matthews Band - obviously they didn't play together but they were my two favorite bands during high school - around that time I was into a lot of alternative and metal, but late in high school I started really getting into DMB and Grateful Dead, I remember when Jerry passed in 1995, I wanted to know about the Dead more, so I started listening and I think those 2 - DMB and the Dead - are what led me to discover things like Bonnaroo and Panic, and all these other fests and great bands and stuff...
