Ben & Jerry's had a contest that if you guessed the hour and day of his resignation you'd win a year's worth of ice cream. That was about a year or more ago, when he should've resigned.
this story seems so bizarre. I wonder what's behind it - who found out what dirty secret - and what was it - that made the pompous ass finally throw in the towel.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this

I've come to accept that with this bunch we'll never really know the whole truth about anything

One of two things is likely.
1 - Some incriminating evidence is about to come out and the rats (Rove, Gonzales) are jumping ship and the administration is getting rid of people who may be able to incriminate them. ; and/or
2 - Bush wants to make a recess appoiintment to the Attorney General post so as to avoid the inevitably uncomfortable Senate confirmation process. (Only Bush would do something this controversial)

could you elaborate just a little, I'm close but I'm a little lost on this one, I've been avoiding politics lately except for the broader issues because I found myself being pissed off all the time, so I'm a little out of the loop. Fill me in... please.
Bush has made it a habit of appointing only "yes men" who won't question any of his decisions. (ie Gonzalez approving illegal spying and torture even though he's supposed to be the country's cheif law enforcement officer.)
The Senate must confirm major Bush appointees. With the Dems in control of the Senate, they will want a truly indepenedent AG who will put the Constitution first. The Constitution allows the Prez to appoint people during a congressional recess in case of emergency or if their confirmation is obvious. This appointment lasts until the next congressional election.
Bush has often used this clause to appoint people he can't get approved any other way. This is a clear abuse of power and has never been done by any other Prez, but that's Bush. (Screw the Constitution. Screw legal precedent. I want what I want and I want it NOW!)
I could see Bush doing this now to get "his yes man" and avoid the Dems in the Senate.

good riddance! although it dosent ake one bit of difference in anything, anywhere. im sure there will be some huge scandal that gonzales and possibly rove will take the heat for and then get pardons. and the recess appointment is nearly a sure thing. dirty bastards!!!
everyone be sure to thank the conservatives for this disgraceful administration. how could they elect these crooks? if i voted for bush i would decide that i can never vote again because of the damage my ignorance has already done to the country and the world. i think all conservatives should be forced to watch lou dobbs for month. i vote lou dobbs for president!! he seems to be the only one in the media that is as disgusted by dems and repubs as i am.

Harsh, Dude. It's no shame to have been duped by the system into voting for someone reprehensable. We are born into this system, and raised to believe that it will work for us. It is a wonderful day when you wake up and realize it's all wrong, and decide to remove yourself from it and don't look back. The only shame is if you give up and resign yourself to continue supporting the system.

well i dont know if i can call it duped. it was no secret what a tool W was. or the whole bush family for that matter. if you couldnt see it then there is something wrong with you. but the world is full of not-sees. its sad that so many people participate in it. like i always say if i walk into a diner and they are only serving puke and sh!t ill walk away hungry. same thing with this one party system america operates on. harsh or not its the way i see it. they are damaging this world in an extreme way. they are ruining the environment, killing millions in crazy wars, arresting and extorting money out of harmless people, letting pedophiles go free to make room for said harmless people in jail, polluting food and water supplies of starving third world countriest to spray druq crops, letting millions of people die of starvation and simply treated diseases, using scare tactics to erase all of our civil rights, and countless other things. its sad and infuriating.
and not everyone is born and raised into that. sensible people have been around for generations. i was raised by parents who lost freinds and family to the corruption of our governent in the vietnam era and and have witnessed first hand what a disgrace they are. and not just the war but also the disgraceful way they treated americans that were against that non sense. kent state comes to mind as a major turning point for most sensible people. and most of my family has despised law enforcement for generations. of course they are hillbillys and love their moonshine and freedom. i think most of the problem people are the ones that are brainwashed from day one through religion. religon scares the nuts outta me. its so ridiculous. how can anyone in this day and age still buy the magic guy in the sky stuff? damn they are scary!

Somebody's got pictures! ;D And I wanna see them! ;D
Well, we actually have a MULTI-Party system....it's just that we only usually have TWO major candidates and a system set up for two major primaries. But that can change.....easily! IF enough people get INVOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what are we going to do about it???? Point fingers and complain about who didn't vote for who or who voted for who and shouldn't have? Or force the candidates to focus on REAL ISSUES instead of letting them run elections on patriotic rhetoric, finger pointing, and attacking their opponents on how UN-patriotic and IMMORAL they are.....that's the only chance we have for REAL change.....I say NO ONE gets a free ride anymore...hold everyone's feet to the same fire and see who jumps first......
I'd say a realistic end game for the Iraqi war, Affordable Universal Health Care in America, and a realistic solution for saving Social Security ought to keep them all busy for this election season....
well i agree to some extent. but the 2 main parties and the goiant media companies make it nearly impossible for anyone but dems and repubs to have any type of a chance. and i was a nader fan at one point. but he lost his mind in recent years and im not sure if id put out a flaming pinto if he was in it. the fact is that the one party system of repubs and dems does everything they can to make it impossible for a third party to compete. and again ive not found a third party candidate that ever had any chance of getting the 5 percent required to get federal matching funds and participate in debates that was worthy of my vote . and even if they could they would never be able to defeat the corrupt voting system that the dems and repubs control.

The main obstacle to change is the corporate media. Anyone who tries to focus on significant issues is ignored. The people who own the news are the same people who own the health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and military hardware companies. You have to work to find the truth and most people are too lazy to work that hard. Also the falling average wage since 1980 keeps people working longer and harder to keep them distracted. And advertising has us concentrating on working to buy things we don't need with money we don't have.
The deficit is so large that the dollar is headed for collapse. Manufacturing is leaving the country so we have no true wealth. And corporate consolidation is leading to a society where the citizen is irrelevant.
The 2-party system is reinforced by a winner take all executive branch (unlike the multi-party parlimentary system in the rest of the world) further weakening citizen influence.
The system is headed for collapse and it seems that until then no one wants to take the time to stop the impending train wreck.
