Barefoot in the Park is a play by Neil Simon. ...Paul Simon? ...Too easy and nothing related to "defeated". There is a movie based on the play starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. ...I got nothing.
In spanish, shoes are "Zapatos". Rage Against the Machine have several songs about the Zapatistas, and this would also fit with the "defeated" part. Zappa (Plays Zappa) would also fit with Zapatos, and Frank Z has an album "Lost Episodes (lost = "defeated"?).
Tennis shoes are also known as gym shoes. ...Gym Class heroes would, as heroes, defeat their opposition. They also have a new album planned for this year.
Popular shoes - Converse All-Stars. ...could be North Mississippi All-Stars. - Vans. ...maybee Roo defeated the Warped tour in wooing this artist.
Edit: Fine...I disappear for a while and we get a clue to our clue...back to the drawing board.

Zappa Plays Zappa was mentioned early on after Djjd tweeted about Ray White. Also mentioned was python boots could easily defeat tennis shoes in a match. But, Djjd is still giving clues....

Before Apostrophe, which has Stinkfoot, came out, Zappa started Discreet records. Among the interesting artists on this label were Ted Nugent and the Dukes, and Tim Buckley (Jeff Buckley's father).
FWIW, Zappa Plays Zappa was mentioned early on in the first few days as an answer to another clue in a number of posts (as were a hundred other bands). DJJD commented that one of the bands mentioned was an aswer to a later clue.
"Can't Afford No Shoes" Album: One Size Fits All (1975)
Have you heard the news? Can't afford no shoes Have you heard the news? Can't afford no shoes (Help me out, y'all)
Have you heard the news? Can't afford no shoes Have you heard the news? Can't afford no shoes
No more rubber No more leather It might all be Gone forever too
No more room If it's true It won't do My feet are blue I tell you With no shoes Well, ah ooh
Well, well, Hey lawdy mama, Can't afford no shoes Hey lawdy mama, Can't afford no shoes xxx
Forced to hold my nose Just can't wash no clothes Forced to hold my nose Just can't wash no clothes
Went to buy some cheap detergent Some emergent nation got my load Got my load Got my toad That I stowed
Well, well, Hey lawdy mama, Can't afford no shoes Maybe there's a bundle of rags that I could use Hey anybody, Can you spare a dime If you're really hurtin', a nickel would be fine Hey lawdy mama, Nothin' we can buy Chump Hare Rama, ain't no good to try Recession Depression

The album features the final version of The Mothers of Invention, with George Duke, Chester Thompson, Ruth Underwood, Tom Fowler and Napoleon Murphy Brock. Zappa continued to tour and record, oftentimes with members of previous "Mothers of Invention" lineups. One of Zappa's heroes, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, guests on two tracks.
Frank Zappa – vocals, guitar George Duke – keyboards, vocals, backing vocals, synthesizer Ruth Underwood – marimba, vibraphone, percussion Johnny "Guitar" Watson – vocals James "Bird Legs" Youman – bass guitar Chester Thompson – drums, sound effects, voices Tom Fowler – bass guitar Captain Beefheart (credited as 'Bloodshot Rollin' Red') – harmonica Napoleon Murphy Brock – tenor saxophone, vocals, backing vocals, flute

Python Boots and Tennis Shoes are mentioned in Stinkfoot on Apostrophe. Not sure how playing the bicycle fits in.

Like what's happening here with the zappa thing so don't want to stray from that but here are a couple other ideas:
1. Rocky Mountain High by John Denver...there's gotta be some antelope in the rockies right? 2. Home on the Range references antelopes 3. Queen and Pink Floyd both have popular songs about bikes
Zappa's Apostrophe album has a track called "StinkFoot". Jack Bruce (of Cream and solo) appears on this album.
edit: argh...I can't keep up.
from lyrics: "Now scientists call this disease bromidrosis (that's right!) And well they should Even napoleon knows that But us regular folks Who might wear a tennis shoe Or an occasional python boot Know this exquisite little inconvenience by the name of: Stink foot"
Zappa played a bike on the Steve Allen show in the early 60's
There are so many possible clues in the video that my head is spinning.
How about Flobots (please let this be right)...handlebars...lyrics like "defeat is impossible" and "we cannot be moved except by a child with no socks and shoes"
Thay've been known to play festivals and have an album planned for release this year (March, per wiki).
I think we need to go through Zappa to get to something/someone else.
I agree with this. DJ JD said early on that a favorite of his would take us right to the answer, and I know he's a Zappa fan. And then "to get the answer- you must go to another artist" - again just sounds like we're getting to the answer VIA Zappa, not that Zappa (or rather, ZPZ) IS the answer.
