Beach House, what a dream. Victoria has won a little place in my heart last night.
Jealous. I’ve never seen them but want to really bad.
You gotta check them out when they pass by with this tour. I've to say that I've seen mixed reviews of the concert I went to (bad sound, very low lighting) but I didn't experience that at all and got into the concert almost immediately when they started out. I've to say that they both aren't well lit but that there are enough passages where they are and sound quality is normally top notch in Brussels so, idk. I've to say I was very lucky to get so close even tho we arrived pretty late and that Victoria was so packing and charming.
I think like Slack says it really depends from your own personal experience, you might like the band but maybe stand at not such a good spot or you can't come into the concert right away, people could be talking next to you etc.. It depends.. But when it does, goddamn.
I was a bit dissapointed tho (damn spoiled ikr) but I think their focus was a bit to much on Cherry Depression after ofcourse the 7-songs. I would've loved to have a little bit more diversity in the setlist but I'm honestly nitpicking cause this was amazing.
went to a Get out the Vote concert that Jim James and Benjamin Booker played at. The opener/MC, Linqua Franqa, a very good rapper/linguistics grad student/Georgia county commissioner candidate played more songs than Benjamin Booker (though he also played with a loop pedal & vintage drum machine, which was pretty cool) and possibly Jim James?? Also Jim James had an electric guitar on the stage the whole time he never used once??? Also he was wearing the most torn up New Balances I've ever seen???? Basically the point of this post is that we need to start a Gofundme to get Jim James a better pair of shoes.
With all this talk of NIN here, I feel kinda bad I missed them while they were in town, but I managed to catch tune-yards, U.S. Girls, and yaeji last night, and wow, what a great group of shows. I had no idea U.S. Girls had 9 people in the live band and it was a lot jammier and jazzier than I expected. tune-yards was great as usual, and they played "My Country", my all time favorite song of theirs which they almost never play (they also did "Real Thing" and their "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" cover, which were also both nice surprises).
As for yaeji? There's a lot less focus on her DJing now in favor of the vocals, which is okay because holy shit, she knows how to command a room. The crowd was going wild the entire show. I really hope she becomes a star because she deserves it. Also, I didn't know her music at all before the show, but it's worth noting that Beta Librae played a very good house/garage set beforehand with some strong 90s influences. anyway, great night, I'm tired, etc. etc.

I was interested in the Yaeji show last night but got roped into a halloween party instead. That's awesome you were able to make it to both shows, especially since the venues aren't very close lol. Was Yaeji a late start or something?
Greta Van Fleet, say whatever you want about them but goddamn they're sick live. They've actually improved a lot since the last time I saw them tho Josh remains kind of akward in his binding texts as a frontman. Jake stays my favorite member, how he can do solo's is crazy. Just keeps on going for a solid 2/3 mins lmao

Yeah the show at Park West finished at 10 and doors at Thalia for yaeji were 11PM; she went on a bit after midnight. Beta Librae’s set was only half an hour.
Saw Thee Oh Sees for the 7th time last night. So fucking good. Every. Time. Easily still one of the best bands in the world right now.
Their opener was Prettiest Eyes. They blew me away as well. Sort of, late 70s hispanic proto-punk noise rock-type sound. Like if Cedric Bixler Zavala and Suicide jammed after listening to Bauhaus for hours.

I wanted to go to one of the days but it just definitely wasn't happening. Sxsw it is...

She ended up playing a DJ set at Queen! in smartbar afterward

It's crazy how they always play Austin and El Paso but rarely Houston and Dallas. Pretty sure they've even played Denton more recently than Dallas actually.

I'm pretty sure the last time they were here was '16 (was there, was great) but they've been to Austin like 20 times since then.

I wish thee oh sees would come back to Kansas City. Twice in 12 months back in 2014 but never again since. And both shows were sold out (200 capacity venue, but still)

surprised they don't play Lawrence all that much.
Lawrence shows have dried up in the last few years. Liberty Hall doesn't have nearly as many as they used to, Bottleneck is mostly local bands, the Granada will get up and coming EDM and hip hop acts, but very little rock unless it's screamo. Last decent rock show was Parquet Courts in June

that's a bummer, it was kind of skewing to cheesy edm and jamtronica stuff as I was leaving KSU, but I always thought of it as lil' austin.

A fellow KSU grad? Nice! It's ok cause KC gets more shows now, The Truman opened last year and finally filled the void left when Beaumont Club closed. The guys from MMW in Nashville own it and they are stellar bookers. Record bar moved from Westport to downtown and gets all the smaller bands that used to go thru Lawrence

attendee*, transferred back after 2 years. but emaw and all that. don't make it up all that much, but its been much longer since I've been to Lawrence than the Hat or KC.
