I am seriously considering going to bonnaroo this year and taking the 1000+ mile trip from massachusetts to tennessee (probably through greyhound.....in the end it seems cheaper) for this year's festival- itd be my first. If Pearl Jam is there (as they are my favorite band) it will probably seal the deal for me. If not, I might still go as MMJ and some other acts that are all-but-certain to be there are right up my alley too. It'll be a costly trip, but as my bro is graduating from high school, and im graduating from college, I think it will be a great way to relieve some of the stress and give each of us a way to reward ourselves for graduating....not to mention meet a lot of cool people. Anyone else from the new england area? If not, for the rest, how was your first experience at bonnaroo?

my first experience was amazing. i say go even if PJ isn't there. you WILL have a great time. thats a long bus ride, but i guess its not too bad. i have family from brookline (actually just one aunt, the others moved to new orleans and austin)

Well, let me jump in here and say welcome to the Inforoo community!! You will find a wealth of information within these pages and some extremely knowledgable folks who can answer all your questions. Feel free to browse the other forums to see if you can find help with your questions.
As far as my first roo, well I am one of the lucky few who happen to live right next the the roo farm, bout a half mile, and I have been to all of them. When I first walked onto the roo farm in 2002, I was in shock!! It was like nothing I had ever seen.
It was tough for me however, because I didn't know how to"do" bonnaroo, and I was spent. I had a great time though and saw great tunes.
I have never camped though, so you'll have to get that experience from the others. I am this year though, sorta...
Definitely make the trip! I've done it from eastern New York State and it's definitely worth the trip.
My first Roo was amazing although I wish that I'd paced myself better. I was definitely a bit worse for the amount of alcohol that I took in and missed a bunch of music.

My first Roo was in 2004. There were only a handful of bands that I considered "must-see", but they carried enough weight to pull me in. I ended up missing my primary reason for going(David Byrne), and kind of hate myself for it, but that is my only real regret. It was unbelievably HOT at first, then came the torrential rain wich destroyed my tent, and finally there was ankle-deep mud...but it was GREAT! If you have the chance, you must go! My girlfriend and I have went every year since (our yearly vacation), and it just gets better everytime. Last year was absolutely perfect! Great bands, Great weather, Great people! It is expensive...and dirty...and the Tennessee sun can be brutal but as long as you come prepared, it will be the highlight of your year. There are many friendly Roo veterans who would be happy to answer any questions you have, insuring that your are prepared for this amazing TRIP. Again... GO, YOU MUST GO!
I've been to every Roo form 03 on, and consistently had the time of my life. Me and my buddy actually took greyhound from northern Indiana in 05. There are pros and cons. The best part of riding the bus is freedom with choosing your campsite. We got one about 100 yards away from the main entrance to the show area. Also, you can get plenty of rest on the bus when you don't have to drive, allowing for maximum fun starting the second you arrive. The main downside to riding Greyhound is travel time. It's about a 10hr trip from here in a car, what took about 20hrs on the bus. And on the way out, our bus actually filled up and we had to crash on the sidewalk at a gas station for 7hrs...suck! It's about a 3-4 mile walk from the bus stop to the campground too. From experience id say Greyhound works but I'd say your best bet is to try to rally a posse and carpool down. If you can recruit like 3-4 more people, it'll be cheaper and less of a hassle than the bus. Hope to see you there friend!!!

i'm from pittsfield MA in the berkshire county area, me and my friends drove down last eyar and i highly suggest driving, the road trip is half the fun
I'm from New Hampshire and did the Greyhound thing to Roo (my first) last year and my friendly advice to you is DO NOT GO GREYHOUND. It is a 36 hour ride from Boston and I got about 2 hours of sleep the whole trip because it is so damned bumpy, loud and uncomfortable, there are so many changeovers, and their climate control system sucks. This resulted in my immune system getting shot, and me coming down with a cold for the whole weekend. I actually bought a round trip ticket, but instead of going back that way, I shelled out $350 for a plane ride back.
An Amtrak ticket costs only a little more and it's definitely worth it, if you can't fly or road trip with friends....

ROOKIE!!! hehe just kidding man... I did spend around 10 days on a greyhound total last summer though... crazy stuff... Im pretty well broken in to the greyhound adventures though... When plane tix are expensive, greyhound is CHEAP...
I was psyched to only have to take the bus home from TN after Wakarusa>Bonnaroo last summer, found rides everywhere else... Did 10klf by bus, 2 days each way... Met amazing people i've been to a bunch of shows with since...

If your planning this far in advance i'm guessing you could book a plane on expedia or some site like for only like 60 dollars more then greyhound, and it'd be worth it. Plus, theres shuttles to and from the airport, i believe.

Jetblue is so damn cheap these days this is the first summer taking a plane around will work for me... Gunna fly from Maine to Florida for $100 and hopefully from there to CO for around $150...

It depends on what bus you take, they come and go all day. We ended up having camp set up by about 7am on friday. And the walk isn't that bad after sitting on the bus for hours and waiting for Roo for hundreds of days
