exactly, 1 of 100
i'd never complain about a band at bonnaroo for that exact reason. it'll still be a GREAT time, you don't have to be in love with every choice, and there's something to be said for giving bands a chance. look at all the radiohead converts from last year!
dont listen to crazykitten.... shes in on the whole thing!!! yesterday she was caught photoshopping lineups and hacking into bonnaroo.com posting threads with semi-colons!!!!
i've never seen tool and i haven't ever listened to their stuff regularly......just not my cup of tea. with that said, i'm REALLY looking forward to their set. i've read a lot of good things about their live performance, and i respect the opinions of many friends who have told me they will rock the house. i'm sure i won't be disappointed.
the best thing about roo is it turns me onto music that i might not otherwise expose myself to.

Honestly I think Tool is a practical joke as a headliner at 'Roo.
They are more fit for some 90's Heavy Metal Reunion Tour with Metallica and GnR.

Have you ever actually listened to Tool? They are nothing like Metallica or G&R..... I hate how people lump them in with the whole Heavy Metal genre, because really that is not what their music is like. It is just the stereotype they have been lumped in.
I personally think it's one of the best additions that Superfly has made to Bonnaroo, along with Radiohead last year. Expand your mind and don't be so close minded about such great music.
I have seen Tool live, I waited in line at a GA show on their last tour. I pushed up to be on the railing front and center for the show (if you can call it that). Maynard never came out from behind a screen to even show the crowd he was actually at the concert. THey had two guys in speedos spray painted metallic color hanging from ropes from the ceiling. Maynard never came out even after we were chanting "Show us your face."
People say it is because they are about the music and not showing off or whatever. Well, if I wanted to hear their music and not see them I would have sat in front of my stereo and listened to the CD. Honestly was the worst show I saw. I felt like it was a Mili Vanilli concert where I didn't even know if he was there singing. It was more like a Pink Floyd laser show then a concert. Very very very disappointing.

The reason I referred to the Metallica and GnR is because that Tool has actually gone on tour and done a "Festival Tour" With Metallica and GnR. So apparently those groups do think they have a similar sound and fans.

If you see them and hear music you could listen to the cd and look at a picture couldnt you. Whats the big deal? Your telling me that if someone is killing it musically you hate it because you cant see them? Ever been in the back?
It must suck for blind people huh, they must not even have a reason to listen to music.

No, Tool never actually toured with Metallica and GnR. They were all at the same festival in Europe once. So by the same logic after this summer we can say that Tea Leaf Green toured with Tool...
I think Tool will be outstanding - I am so excited! Tool is what changed my mind about Bonnaroo this year - I was not sure we would go - but once I saw them added - I just have to be there. My husband has been to 2 Tool shows and we both saw A Perfect Circle together - this is going to be great!
The videos I've seen from Tool at Coachella have Maynard on stage. Provided he's not at the front, he's actually standing at the back even with the drums, but he's on stage.
A guy I talked to here in town saw them when they came here, and said that Maynard was painted completely blue, polka dotted yellow, and was wearing nothing but red and white boxers. Sounds fun.
Plus, Tool said they are going to do even more to enhance their live show, so I know it's not joke. It's real, and they're going to kill. Especially if they take advantage of the huge slot headliners are given and play a 2 or 2.5 hour show.
Tool is easily one of the best live shows I've ever seen, even without seeing the band. Thats the whole point. Being at a Tool show is NOTHING like listening to the CD just because you can't see the band. When I saw them the music was completely in sync with two video screens with all sorts of psychadelic Alex Grey artwork. Not to mention the lights were great especially with the back drop they had. It's more like an experience than just watching a live band. I probably wont' make it to 'roo but Tool is the best headliner they've had in my opinion. And this is coming from a "jamband" fan whose been disapointed with the direction the lineups have been moving the last few years.
I saw Tool in 1995? at Lollapalooza... They were okay. "Why can't we be sober" and all that. I think they still were grounded in reality at that point. Honestly, I don't remember the show that well - I was pretty far from the stage having the time of my life at age 16 or 17 - way more into the festival atmosphere than trying to be in the moshy front-row.
My girlfriend saw Tool a few years ago, she said it was like listening to the CD. No improv on the music, no interaction with the audience, and Maynard just "stood there".
I saw A Perfect Circle a few years ago in this wierd show at an opera house in Providence, RI. Same thing eron experienced, Maynard just hung out behind this curtain thing most of the show. Hell, half the time, the stage was barely lit.
I'm looking forward to "hearing" them play (since, in general, I like their music), but I'm not going to make any effort whatsoever to get close to the stage.
I might have to visit the chocolate shop before that show though...

First post on these boards, felt only right to put it here.
My cousin, his wife, and I will be attending this year. They are seasoned veterans, but I am a Bonnaroo virgin. A few months back we started talking about going this year, and continued it on and off. Well it was made official (we were going from the start but never made it offical) when Tool was confirmed.
Tool is easily my favorite band of all time. I respect everybodys right to pick and choose what kind of music they like, and I am not one to get on people for not liking every band that I like, however, Tool is an exception. I try to open everybody up to Tool. The music for me has been literally life altering. I dont know if I can say that about too many things in my life, but I say it with confidence with Tool. Tool's fans tend to be a very loyal bunch, some take it way too far and feel that Maynard is God. I am sure fans of many bands can relate though. I personally dont view any of the band members as Gods, just some of the finest musicians out there. People knock Tool about alot of things, but none of that matters because Tool rises above the norm and gives its fans an experience to never forget. Tool is 4 members, not 1 or 2, anybody that tells you the band would be great without --- doesnt know what he is talking about because the band is the excellent example of beauty that they are thanks to all 4 members. I have listened to their albums hundreds of times and take something new out of each experience. Live, there is none better. I have seen then live in 3 VERY different venues (multiple times at some) and they have taken me to another dimension every time. Their live show is not just a concert, it is truly an experience. The energy that is fed back and forth between band and fan is electrfying. Before you know Tool, your owe it to YOURSELF to give them a chance. If you want that to be at home, send me a message and I will try and come up with a mixed disc plan for you to listen to based on what you are into. If you prefer to experience them live for the first time, then be up front at Bonnaroo, and let this legandary band take you higher then you have ever been.
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."

MEtallica's the sh!t anyways. BUt yeah dont be close minded with music, atleast appreciate it for what it is, someone expressing their feelings in a very creative way and most of the time, very talented way. Even if you cant dig the music, appreciate the artist becuase their music is them. You wouldnt want someone not to appreciate your expressions jsut because they cant get into the actual expression. That being said, hug a musician, they dont get to dance.
