Hello My name is Justin Owens. I'm 25. I'm from Michigan. I have a two year old daughter name Elana Grace. I'm passionate about two things. Music and Food! The music side of my passion falls in one big catagory; which could be appropiatley titled BONNAROO. It's creol for the really good stuff or something.
I've attended the last (and all) five bonnaroo's. The first three years I went general admission. Last year I was able to attend as VIP (Highly recommended). Every Year I've taken someone new on the trip as well as the occasional usual! I was even blessed with the oppurtunity to introduce my 30+ year old sister to roo before (two months before) she was tragically taken from my family in a bad accident.
Bonnaroo is special to me. Something about the Tennessee air? Something about the passionate artist giving it their all for that crowd, ---that came from nowhere to support them (and miss other favorites to do so. ). The mud, the pyschadelic atmosphere. I'm sure I'm speaking to the Choir...since your all here...But god damn it..... BONNAROO IS UNIQUE, IT"S UTOPIA, ITS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. ITS FREAKIN AMAZING.
AND THIS YEAR.. I' can't go.!!!!!
Coming from the kid that speaks and eats music. Rotation is the key to freshness, and I play all music. Music is the background of my life, and it skips the beats of Wilco, Roots, Ray Lamontagne, Johnny Cash, Jackie Green, Rose Hill Drive, Ween, All Bluegrasee...yatta yatta, 2pac, Jerry' Ballards, Atmosphere, Xavier Rudd, Govt. mule, Dave, Dark Star Orchestra, and Jam Cruise Bootlegs all at once... I'm addicted to live music performed by artist wearing those hearts on those sweaty sleeves, and Bonnaroo is the armband soaked in passion I need! It's the Dank, and nothing else compares. The freedom, The line-up, the locals mingling with foreigners, the lights, the smiles, the spray bottles!
I've inked the three green circles as my one and only tatoo! It is also the trinity symbol that was present at my sisters funeral (coincedence?) I'm a wreck......
But today, i' second guessed myself. After writing the con's, the pros on white pieces of paper. The wear and tear on the car, the fact I've been there, seen that! The fact; most bands I' want to seen' I've seen.. the random weather, the random camping spot, miles away...or close as hell....a roll of the dice my friends.. ...but those PROS...
the possibility of seeing something special (Isaw that dude fall from Dios Malos...sick, but special....I met Jack Johnson in a rare water fountain appearance, I' was givin a kiss by warren haynes, only because he kissed my girlfreind...and i'm the bigger fan...I met My morning jacket, drank a beer with Gabby La La(she was not drinking..i was) more pros; FCKING LIVE MUSIC, THE AIR, YOU PEOPLE, more freedom then ever. You want a sandwich, ok!!! You want to see that one band from london or pancakes!!! Real freedom! More Pros...The bands....The bands........The consecutive roo shows (all five so far) The idea that Passion should be rewarded with passion!!! Passion = Passion . And I sit somewhere in between... with a water bottle, a fan, and some snacks!!! It's freedom, and I smile!
If everyone that attended Bonnaroo, left the farm. with the same amount of passion as those who perform, the world would be a better place. For the most part, people who I meet at Bonnaroo, probably live their lives like that! I smile and I thank you!
I'm a waiter, but I'm a great waiter...I take pride in that craft, and I get excited making sure people enjoy their meal (night out)! If you have me as a waiter, you smile, and I smile ...and sometimes it's awkward...-moving on-
I'm a father, and a really damn good one. I take pride in that title! www.myspace.com/owensjustin My family rocks!
I'm a music fan....and folks I'm a passionate fan.
And no passionate fan would not go to bonnaroo for some wear and tear on his car, materialistic garbage that it is. No fan of Roo would not go because Dierks Bentley is there, or Tool, or Clutch (i'm a tool fan at least). A roo fan would appreciate the art, beauty, love, lust, work, effort, time, and most of all FCKIN PASSION that goes in to creating that ROO (see above for description)....so with out further concerns, emails or warning!!!
I"M GOING< and since i'm a vip baby< I'm Going VIP.
splitting a ticket with a stranger (long story) going by myself this year, unless plans change. My first time alone, but I'll have fun (THE WHITE STRIPES ARE THERE.....HELLO!) I'm scripping, saving, eating some million PB and J's to go..But I'm going!
(waits for claps to stop)
just wanted to give a drunk rant...although I'm not that drunk (vodka martinis x3) and I do mean every last word i say! Bonnaroo is close to my heart. All of you are close to my heart, just for being there...somehow I know were related down the line...... xoxoxo
See you all soon. Thanks for reading! And now that I'm going, I will once again participate in conversations on inforoo...(I was a sour sport, not going and all)!
YEAH, I'm Back SUITCASE MURPHY aka J.Owens aka Jmannwo@aol.com
Every bit of Passion that you have for our Utopia that we call 'Roo, is 100% shared with Me and I am sure most of the others here on the board.
I am also a Waiter/Bartender (23) and share the same ideals for pride in your job.
I have been all five years ( about to be six ) and I truly enjoy exposing someone new to the scene every year.
My deepest sympathies for the loss of your sister. I am glad you had the opportunity to share something you love that much with her before it was too late.
You are an inspiration to Bonnaroo fans everywhere with your dedication to let nothing stand in your way of reuniting yourself with the REAL "Happiest Place on Earth". (Disneyworld Blows!)
You seem like a really amazing guy Sorry about your sister though, thats so terrible. At least you two got to spend time together at Bonnaroo, something thats obviously very very important to you, before she passed.
