Bonnaro is the best thing that ever happened to me, and i will never miss another one if i can help it. anyways, i have some friends back home who are buying into the rumors that have been around for years about MTV "taking over". i refuse to believe that bonnaroo will drastically change, even if MTV was there. Anyway, i am not well-informed at all about it, and i know there are people out there that know way more than i do, so if anyone could shed some light on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated. ???
Clear Channel Buys Out Bonnaroo!! Yeah, not really. But it is one of the sillier rumors we’ve heard regarding the fate of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, from which some of us are still recovering. Here are some other good ones, each followed by commentary by the festival’s Head-Captain-Guy Mr. Ashley Capps himself.
Rumor: Clear Channel is buying out the festival. AC Says: “Not true.”
Rumor: MTV/Viacom is buying out the festival. AC Says: “There’s never even been a discussion. What would MTV do with a music festival?”
Rumor: Six Flags wants to build a new theme park on the land where Bonnaroo is held. AC Says: “[Referencing a recent News Sentinel article], Six Flags over Georgia is in trouble. They’re not buying land; they’re selling land.”
Rumor: Bonnaroo is moving to a different location. AC Says: “We’re actually exploring options for creating a more permanent site in Coffee County for Bonnaroo. If we owned the land, we could put in more infrastructure that would make it easier to produce. We’ve started tentative discussions with landowners for possibly purchasing the land, but it’s completely speculative at this point.”
Rumor: 2006 was the last Bonnaroo. AC Says: “At this stage in the game, we’re here to stay for another few years.”
So, kids, there you have it. Bonnaroo 2007? We’ll see you at the beer tent
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
sponsoring means they have nothing to do with how the festival is ran. I could sponsor the festival if I gave them some $$$ but that doesn't mean I have any say in their business

Actually, the catholic church bought the rights to the festival from Superfly/AC. This year will feature an inner beauty contest, and 2 scared straight tents. One for at risk youth and the other for homosexual teens.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

No. Sorry. I didn't word that well.
They're sponsoring and running the festival. They're in charge.
MTV was there last year. Before Beck played, down towards the front of the main stage off to the right, John Norris was filming some kind of report. I yelled at him a couple times but couldn't get a response. I was really hot, and my legs had swollen up pretty badly from standing still in the same spot all day waiting for Radiohead, but I definitely remember seeing him there.
Nah -- sorry about that -- just a dose of sarcasm to the crazy rumors, such as this, that flood the board each year before June hits. It's kind of ridiculous how many folks end up piddling their patchwork pants over this talk that has been shot down time and time again.

here's the rumor mill sticky (i think the title should be changed to also include MTV, cause it's in there too!), that was made in hopes to stop threads like this one
