^ a late addition of the Dead, if there is in fact to be one, makes sense to me because it would allow them to sell out their own tour before it being publicized. Also the obvious with Warren Haynes already being on the farm...
At this point, my gut is saying they will either add a Friday Headliner or there will be NO Friday Headliner and the time will be used to fit in all the top heavy acts they have on the bill.
I think Chandler is right. There will be no headliners added this year. Beasties will headline What Stage on Friday night ending around 11, with Phish starting between 1-2. There will be plenty of time between Beastie Boys and Phish for people to wander around Centeroo and check out some of the late night stuff on Which Stage and the tents will still be going all night.

i would bet on allman brothers, instead of the dead.
go ahead and announce radiohead as a headliner, superfly, you know you want to!
If they did that they could go ahead and charge another 100 at least from me. I don't know how they can fit another headliner in or why they would need to. The tickets are already going to sell out.
But it still doesn't make sense that they announced the Sat. and Sun. headliners but not Friday. What is the point of doing this is everyone knows/assumes it's going to be BB anyway...??? Something isn't adding up.

I agree DoctorFunk. The email had headliner dates and times, but there was a mysterious absence of a Friday headliner. Sure, they said Phish are latenight, but that has never been classified as a 'headliner'. I am almost sold on the fact that they will announce another big name as the major Friday headliner.
Nobody seems to be pursuing the idea of a Thursday Headliner.
What if one of the Headline level bands is headlining thursday. What if they aren't, and superfly pulls a double mindf*ck, by adding Jay-Z friday, then out of nowhere adds Jane's Addiction as a Thursday Headliner.
Point being, there is plenty of room for another headliner and with the nature of this announcement (not mentioning the regular Friday Headliner, which they won't get rid of) hints that something is amuck

I don't think they will add another headliner but the Beastie Boys will "headline" Friday night. There may be other acts performing at that time but I think they are just trying to refrain from calling the Beastie Boys headliners when a band like a Phish is playing after them. Of course I am not opposed to another headliner being added. I just hope if they add someone it's the Dead or ABB.

My thought is that, if they were to actually do a Thursday headliner, it would be announced well in advance so people can make travel/lodging/work/etc plans accordingly.

The same reason everyone speculated when we got a "tip" that was so confirmed that Bruce was closing the festival.....While anything is possible at Roo, noone is really entertaining the thought of a headliner Thursday because that the way its been. Thursday used to not even be a festival day and now its turned into a full festival day but still dont see it as being a day with a headliner. While yes they have evolved there are some things that AC/Superfly keep consistent and that being headlining spots friday, saturday and sunday and the festival being closed out by a "jam band" on Sunday,

LOL@ this thread
how on earth does this raise any speculation of another headliner? Phish Bruce Phish is enough to cover the headliners on Fri Sat and Sunday, wheres the room? Beasties, NIN, TMV, Ben Harper all take up valuable spaces too. I just dont see how switching Phish and Bruce around on sunday makes it any more likely for some other huge name to be added.
And i am kind of frustrated that Phish is on Sunday bc if it was Bruce no one in my group would want to leave sunday, but bc its Phish they will. im not leaving sunday though, i did that last year and i hated it. ill fight to the death on this one.

I think the idea is that every year so far there has been a headline act on What Stage from 8-12 or so playing with no competition on Fri, Sat, and Sun. So far, no band has been announced in that slot for Friday this year. That's where the space comes from for another headliner (the currently open headliner slot). And that's where the speculation about who will fill that slot is coming from.
^^^^Because Phish is NOT the Friday headliner. There was nothing as to who is headlining Friday night, and if it is the Beasties, I don't see how they would not have been included in the update. They are already on the lineup, anyway. I'm holdin out for a big announcement for an ACTUAL Friday headliner.
Oh yeah, as for the Thurs. headliner thing, no way

Let's face it, TMV and Ben Harper, quality real and perceived aside, are not in this discussion. NIN is all but confirmed for late night Saturday. And I don't think the Beasties are any bigger a name than Beck. We all know where he was slotted.
In any case, this is how I had hoped it would be anyway, so its good to me. Not sure how I feel about the Beasties in the Friday night headlining spot, but so be it if that's the case.

Anyone consider Phish Friday latenight might be 10pm - 4am (or later) and hence no other band mentioned?
With the short sets from The Police, Tom Petty, Tool, etc maybe we get a 7-9pm BB show overlapping with something on Which and then two hours of Phish with no overlap (10-12), then the rest of the show past midnight competing with the other late nights?

Speculation is fun!
Beastie Boys not a bigger name that Beck? Really? Beck is a great pre-headliner or what have you, but the Beastie Boys are definitely a headliner.

If Phish were the Friday night headliner, they wouldnt have taken the trouble to announce today that they're a late-night act.
They pointedly didnt mention a headliner for Friday night. Either an announcement of one is forthcoming, or the Beasties can be rightfully annoyed by being downplayed like this.
I think the announcement today was more or less to clear up any worries that people may have that Phish would have 2 headlining spots or that the two sets would be back to back.

But they referred to it as a headliner announcement. Literally, 'headliner performance dates announced'. But they did not say who's headlining Friday night.
Well if you are being that anal about their wording they never said Bruce was headlining saturday or that Phish was headlining sunday. They simply stated they were playing those nights so maybe they are adding three headliners OMGZ!
