Just noticed NIN - The Slip is on there now and a few others.
I bought The Slip on vinyl back when it came out, flawless pressing. Reznor really knows how to make his recordings shine. CDs, hi rez, vinyl, they all sound awesome.
The audiophile/uncompressed download of Hesitation Marks is stunning.
yeah, I ended up getting it. Now the only NIN album on vinyl that I'm missing is Year Zero.
You fine folks can probably answer this (and apologies if it's been mentioned on previous pages I only did a very quick scan)- looking to purchase a record player and amazon reviews are confusing the shit out of me. Any brands I should stick with or run from? Would like to stay under $200 but willing to go up for the best. Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers to almost the weekend!
I am no expert, but I bought this record player last month and have been very happy with it.

This was the first turntable I bought. Really a great buy for the money, and is perfect for those who just want to start playing some vinyl. Set up is easy, and the sound is pretty good. Mine finally went after about 2 years of heavy use, but I still consider it a good buy.
I'm now looking to upgrade to the Pro Ject Debut Carbon (considered one of the better audiophile entry level players ~$400), but I also need to upgrade my speakers before spending that kind of money.
Could anyone provide insight on how big of a role the amps play in sound? I bought a ~$100 amp with the phono input as opposed to a pre-amp + amp set up. I plan on keeping this with the new turntable and speakers, but if it's going to limit the sound quality I'd consider upgrading.

Rega RP-1 is my favorite recommendation for a budget table, but its over your budget ($475 I think).
The project tables are also solid budget choices, think you can find them for $300ish. Very similar design to the rega.
Remember you also need a phono stage to correct the RIAA curve.

Opinions vary wildly on this but I think just about any amp that has suitable power to drive the speakers in question is fine.
My buddy has a project table and a budget receiver with a phono input paired with some Polk monitors and it sounds outstanding.
Tons of older receivers have phono inputs, and even some newer ones. Those are great options for those starting out in vinyl.

Thanks for the reply Postjack. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear

something else while I'm thinking about it, you might already know this.
its a common misconception that an amp with "too much power" will blow speakers, when actually quite the opposite is true. Playing speakers with an amp that isn't powerful enough is what blows them.
Confusing matters more most wattage measurements supplied by amp manufacturers are bullshit. The good news is most non-tube amps made should have enough power to drive any speaker of reasonable sensitivity.
And that's really the main issue, the sensitivity. Speaker manufacturers release wattage range specs, but again because of the lack of uniformity in amp manufacturers' wattage ratings, this isn't really helpful information. What is important is a speaker's sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity, the easier a speaker is to drive. A "normal" sensitivity, I guess, is like 87-89db. Once you get about 90db people start describing a speaker as "easy" to drive. 84db and below speakers get a little harder to drive.
So how do you know if your amp is really suitable? Hook it up and crank it up. If the speakers don't distort, or don't sound like they are choking to produce sound, then you are good to go.
or ask the internet "hey i have speaker x will amp y drive it thx".
not the most technical explanation or advice. i'm just a hobbyist.
So this is the 2nd record that I've listened to, almost all the way through before noticing I was playing it at the wrong speed. Does this happen to anyone else or just me?

I'm ashamed to say I know you.
When I did it with GYBE it was still sounding good. With Deafheaven something was sounding off, but I didn't catch it till one of the interlude songs that has talking in it.

I'll admit the first time I ever heard King of Limbs was the 45rpm vinyl. I played about half of the first track on 33.3 before I noticed something was weird.

Same thing happened to me! Thought it was a little off, then when he sang "Open your mouth wide...." like a Chipmunk, I had the "oh shit...whoops" moment.

First time I played the new Pretty Lights album this happened to me.
I have an LCD Soundsystem record that says it is to be played at 45rpm when it's supposed to be 33.3. I don't know if it's a mistake or on purpose but I fall for it every time.

To be fair, the Deafheaven record doesn't even have it printed on there, that I can see. GYBE happened when I first got my record player and was the first one I got that was a different speed.
I made the 45/33 first with the Holocene single by Bon Iver (specifically the side with Come Talk to Me). Happened again pretty recently with Haim's Days Are Gone.
It always confuses the hell out of me when it happens.
Stopped by Amoeba Music in LA today and picked up Fever Ray, Flying Lotus Until the Quiet Comes, Grateful Dead's Grateful Dead, Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Black Moth Super Rainbow's Cobra Juicy, and Radiohead's Kid A. Spent a pretty penny, but so happy with the purchase! It really is an amazing record store!!
Question for all you fine gentleman, i'm moving soon, and am thinking of some ideas for the room. I currently have a record player as well as two book shelf speakers as well as a Lepai mini amplifier. However i'm trying to make an upgrade. I'd like to make the vinyl player a focal point in the room, was wondering if any of you have any recommendations on speaker sets as well as audio amplifiers i should be looking at, as well as any where you think i could find a deal. After setting everything up in the room i'll be sure to snap a picture and share.

The 2xLP gatefold edition of SpaceLab9?s Breaking Bad release will be available on both white vinyl and pink vinyl. The white variant matches up with the character of “Walter White” while the pink matches up with, you guessed it, “Jesse Pinkman.” The set also includes pictured inner sleeves and extensive liner notes from both composer Dave Porter and show creator Vince Gilligan. The purchase also includes a poster.
The pink variant will be available at Spacelab9.com on April 22nd, beginning at 1 p.m. (EST). The white variant will be available in retail stores.
I guess I blew it showing up an hour late to record store opening. I did manage to score of Montreal Satatnic Panic and Grateful Dead Hampton '79 though.
