Aww lol well we don't know for sure yet. (I was seriously just about to type "it ain't over till the fat lady sings" and then I realized that might not be such a great thing to say in this particular situation...although I suppose I'm saying it now anyway).
I don't think Gwar would be TOO much of a gimme, since it took us a while (and some hints) to realize that the star hatching referred to Edwin Starr. Who knows if we ever would have gotten there without the hints about the spelling of star and about Mr. Ed. As for the new brand of clue, I figured that could have just referred to the new DJ reading it.
Blah I don't know, I keep going back and forth in my head. I'll just HOPE it's Aretha, since we already know Gwar is coming (apparently) and it'd be nice to have a clue for someone else!
we also steered this to EDWIN starr...the only part dj jd ever said was good was the EDWIN.
Starr came from his help of "a star is not always spelled star" Pretty sure the whole name is good or he would have steered us away from the Starr thing by now

Yeah, me too on all this^^^. Hopefully he was assuming we would jump right to Gwar because of the alleged confirmation, and thus chose the whole War angle to confuse us, when the answer is really Aretha. He would do that, right?

Yeah, I know what you mean sublime. I wish I could remember if we'd ever had a clue for something that had been leaked before. The only thing I could find is that we did eventually have a Bruce clue last year after we already knew he was playing, but it was in the last rush of clues the day before the lineup came out so that might be a little different.
Also, I apologize for being obtuse but I'm still not fully understanding the Aretha logic, and I'm trying to get it up on the site and...well, failing at it, haha. So I echo sublime's question - how does "two times before I was" relate?

I don't have a better explanation for the add one letter business but djjd was being very modest to state that at least one person said it when everyone pretty much has commented on the "War" angle. I don't think we've got this nailed down in the least...

would he do that ? sheeeezus ....the "help" he gave on prine clue was torture. he promised a curveball. and this is clue Z. we still are under Z impression it's a new clue type/theme/insanity.
and im still reading into his answer about being "pretty jazzed".

I think monkey might be on to something with "jazzed"...Aretha was booked to play Jazz Fest last year and canceled, but she's booked to play again this year.
Okay, the mental image that just provided of them trying to go through security in the costumes is almost funny enough to make me okay with a clue for a leaked act. I'm just picturing them banging their gigantic shoulder thingies into the metal detectors...a poor airport security guy trying to wave a frantically beeping wand over them...

Plastic Pepper, you just go one (year) back (before) starr's grammy nod, then two times that one year forward. That is a standard logic puzzle mechanism.
Not nearly as clear as G being two before I though. GAHHHH.

According to GWAR mythos,[1] Oderus Urungus is 43 billion years old, and was assembled on a planet called Scumdogia in "Syntho Womb 5" after pieces of his moldy war frame were found scattered throughout the galaxy.
gotta be one sweet passport !! okay...back to the good stuff.

Last year I remember we had found the link to his myspace, I was actually looking for it earlier today and couldn't find it. That would have his age most likely, if you can find it. Maybe PM Pepper.

It was the beginning of a music career that has made Steed, now 41, a cornerstone of the East Tennessee city’s ever-changing scene. Bands have come and gone in Knoxville, and Steed has known most of them, drunk with most of them, shared stages with most of them. Through it all, with a succession of his own outfits (Smokin’ Dave & the Premo Dopes, the Opposable Thumbs, Apelife),

Ugh. Okay, I just reread the entire thread. I HATE saying this, but given that that winning hint is totally open to interpretation,, Gwar just works so well with the clue. When you just answer the clue - Before the Starr hatched (before War) is what is 2 times before I was (G), it seems both perfectly simple, yet not likely to be a coincidence. I can't bring myself to put it in my sig, but I'm afraid that has to be it.

Gwar is gonna rule!! Although I will listen out of range of the poo catapult
that was from a different article, not myspace...but it's the same Steed
Oh I know but I've read that article too...as recently as yesterday when I was being sneaky and trying to find info on DJ JD for some other reason...and totally missed that.

Lol - good plan. They aren't my thing and I would MUCH rather have Aretha, but I'm happy for people who like them. But that was alot of work for something we already pretty much knew.
Before the star hatched is what is two times before I was I still haven't nailed how it totally realtes to the original clue, but EVERYTHING else seems to point to Drive-By Truckers
edwin is a winner- you know, or will help you win as you go, think think
Which I THINK could lead to Edwin Hawkins (monkeyroo72 does too)...or at least Hawkins. Roger Hawkins of the Swampers played drums on Aretha Franklins "Think". Patterson Hood is son of Swampers bassist David Hood
Not sure if it's significant or not but djjd repeating of words (think think, one one) might be a hint? Also he has used the word "one" a couple of times where it seems strange. When he posted "... one one person was one letter away" is referring to the person that made the person who was close? Someone with "one" or "11" in their screen name or some sort of duplication in their name or a double of some sort in the band's name? I dunno?! Just a thought....
remembering that last night he tweeted..AMISH1 will GET at least one WISH from HIS LIST
Which made me go back and realize that I had mistakenly put Drive-by Trucker in my wish list forgetting the s. My original Cold War Kids guess could maybe some how lead to Patterson Hood having a new album called "The Depression Era" And while putting this all together and going through every page of this thread with a fine tooth comb I found this post..
Godchaux from Boombox?... (he is my avatar) When I talked to Russ (dj) he said it is possible they would play.. still discussing
it.
need moar muscle shoals music..
updated to include the muscle shoals line I do believe. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section was also known as The Swampers. BRAND NEW KIND OF CLUE may relate to DBT having a brand new album coming out. Why clue Z?? Maybe they will get a stage like Byrne did last year featuring more Muscle Shoals Music?? That is what I have come up with so far and would love to hear any thoughts on this guess. My brain is fried!
