I like how you guys are getting all uppity about a standard concert rider for a artist of that status.
I know. For a celebrity who is, in his own words, "worth over a hundred million," that list actually seems pretty tame. I was expecting something ridiculous. I mean, it's still decadent no matter how you dice it, but c'mon, the man is asking for PB&J, not lobster.

According to the "Phish Security Procedures Manual," the group's followers are a "peaceful, intelligent group" who don't like to be bullied and, while it might sound crazy to some--also like to "dance and twirl." But we're puzzled about all those late-arriving fans: What's there to do in the parking lot before a concert?
I bet they would have given the 750k back to the school as well.
First, that's clearly not a tour rider - those are instructions to a venue about security and venue staffing. There's nothing in there about what the band needs set up for them before the show, so comparing the two is completely foolish.
Second, yeah, I'm sure they would have given the 750K back. I mean, Phish plays all their shows gratis, right?
It was on the same section of the smoking gun as Jay Z's. Also while Phish certainly plays for money and a lot of it, do you really think they would bankrupt a student association, or would they give the money less expenses back if only 6 out of 30k tickets were sold.

It was in the same section on TSG, but clearly it's not a tour rider, which is generally a listing of what the artist requests/needs provided to them in the form of accommodations. That is clearly a set of instructions to venue security on how to best handle Phish's fans.
And while it's wonderful to think about what Phish might do in a situation like this, it's also an unfounded argument. There's no record of them doing what you suggest, so there's no way of knowing what they'd do, exactly.
However, while Jay-Z may have cost U of A money, at least we can be sure that nobody from his band tried to take photos of preteen girls backstage. We probably couldn't be sure of the same thing if Phish played.
There is no way to know but you DO know the history of the band, so what do you THINK would happen?
Of course that does not matter Phish actually has the ability to sell tickets solely based on name value alone.

That's because people who attend festivals are close-minded closet racists who object to the idea of a successful black rap artist being one of the major acts.
??? I beg to differ. I don't have any problems with a black artist being a major act Rap doesn't really ring my bell, though, except in certain moods and in small doses. Does that make me a racist? I would argue no, because I love reggae, classic R&B, African influences, and blues.....and I did have a good time at Snoop Dogg last year. so maybe I'm just an "intellectual redneck" to borrow a term from another recent thread. We all have certain likes and dislikes. As far as Jay-Z, if there is nothing going on at the same time that I would rather see then I might check him out. but he is certainly not a priority. to each his/her own!
getting back to the original thread, I just want a schedule so I can plan my naps. This year I'm going in with at least somewhat of a game plan.

He hasn't hurt sales at all. I would imagine he is one of the draws to this years festival, as far as headliners go. And even if he isn't bringing in people like the name Phish or Bruce or Radiohead, he is definitely not turning people away from the festival.
And if he is, that sounds like more of a personal problem, I think put in the situation, most reasonable people, that didn't want to to hear Jay-Z, could find something else to do between the couple hours he is playing, or does this years ticket include at strap in seat at the main stage that you can't leave until all shows are over?
P.S. I was wondering why so many young girls were watching from the VIP during Phish last year.

In a drastic attempt to get this thread back on topic for its last few days/hours of its existence...
The Road to Bonnaroo competition ended last night. Therefore all pieces of the schedule should be complete. I know we expected it this week, but with this bit of news, it could be revealed as early as later today.

How dare you try to get this thread back on topic!
I hear you. What the hell happened to this thread. If AC read this thread they would release the schedule immediately in order preserve the remaining sanity of this board. My guess is they take our money today and give us a schedule on Thursday. I don't think I'll check back until then.

While I hope you are correct, the final Road to Bonnaroo act probably won't make any difference schedule-wise. I remember last year The Protomen were the final Road to Bonnaroo act and they weren't even put on the schedule until a couple of weeks after it was initially released (I remember this because they added Protomen and switched The Features timeslot at the same time, putting The Features in a slot which caused me to miss them).
They said "late" this week, so don't get your hopes up until Thursday. However, I wouldn't complain if they released it today.

You are right a prima donna hip hop artist playing late night on The What Stage, nothing could possibly go wrong.

Jay-Z will not quack this up.
Your statement proves you know nothing about him as an artist if you are just lumping him in with all rappers, because rappers mess everything up.
Most all big time artists, not just rappers, have ridiculous lists that must be met, thats what the hospitality people have a job for. Bruce had his huge buffet of food and alcohol, and I'm sure Mike Gordon had a high quality digital camera waiting for him.
But to be clear, if anybody wants to sit around for 4 hours, miss a host of other high quality acts and wait for someone to take the stage thats their problem.
I'm still holding out hope that the schedule has been delayed because they've been trying to add one more major act to boost sales. Guess we'll find out Thursday.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "

Are you his publicist or something? Also there is green M&M ridiculousness and there is demanding a car when there are less than 100 sold a year ridiculousness. I am all about hospitality, but come on man a 30k car rental.

Clearly Jay-Z is the problem! His rave reviews at Coachella and Glastonbury should be clear indications he is a dangerous problem and the cause for all our problems!
He is not the reason I went at all, but I do have a pretty good knowledge of his songs(it's hard to grow up in the 90's and not). But I was really impressed with him, and I will make sure I see him at Bonnnaroo. He has played lots of festivals in Europe for years, and he really does have the festival performance dialed in. Heis just like a rock and roll act that happens to rap. The band he has backing him is amazing. It's been a while since I have seen any artist get so much and give so much love to any crowd. It was something to watch. And like I said, I wasn't even planning on liking him that much at Coachella. In fact I still have trouble keeping a straight face when I tell people he was one of my top acts at there, but somehow he was. So keep an open mind. You might actually like it.
I think they are about to announce something. The web site has three links under headlines that say planet roo, but only lead to a server error. Here's hopin' we get a schedule today.

I think you guys are way off on how much an artist charges. Plus it's a lot different for festivals where artists usually charge less because they play for such a large audience. They just get a guaranteed payment. As I've said multiple times before, my brother books acts for a living and they are no where near as expensive as mentioned above. Phish may have gotten 500k for the two shows but there is no way they got 1.5 million.
Student associations almost always lose money on shows they book because they don't know anything about booking acts or negotiating. It happens where my brother works every year.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good

Just saw that, too. It's probably just for Planet Roo, considering it's a new headline. Here's to hoping, though.
