Logical lineup that won't convince me to endure the farm this year
I just can't imagine being a big enough music fan where I've gone to Bonnaroo in the past and not being able to find at least a handful of these names exciting.
Radiohead, The Shins, Bon Iver, and Jack White are absolutely exciting. But they still don't push me over the edge. I mean if that was a smaller, forest type fests lineup i'd be in heaven. But I'm a tad clostrophobic, and roo is not my ideal setting, so it takes a shock and awe type lineup for me to get there. I know a lot of you love the farm more than anything and that's great. But for this seclusive northerner, the hot weather and over 100,000 people is tough to endure. Sorry if that offends anyone...
Yeah she didn't confirm Eminem. She just told us it there was a rap headliner. She gave us the other 5
We already knew about Plant last year. Remember there was a video floating around online of him at some random show where he announced it to the crowd.
She didn't really confirm Eminem I thought. That lineup sounds awesome to me, gramps. And I actually checked last years email, it came on Wednesday the 9th announcing the lineup to be released on Tuesday the 15th. So I'd hope for an email tomorrow or Wednesday
She said a "major rap act" that was a headliner, and ruled out Kanye....which left it all but obvious who it was.
Also, we still have some surprises left even though we know a lot and can pin down some of the major undercard acts a a finals list (Roots, Shins, Avetts, Bon Iver, Allmans, etc.). Last year, at least that I can remember BS, SCI, Wayne, Strokes, Mumford, Decemberists, and Ray Lamontagne all came out of left field (after knowing MMJ, Primus, Plant).
My prediction:
Radiohead Phish Neil Young & Crazy Horse Red Hot Chili Peppers Bon Iver Jack White Allman Brothers Band Drake The Roots Swedish House Mafia The Shins Avicii Weir, Robinson, & Green
Personally I think that there is going to be a massive amount of 2nd tier bands there this year. I realize that Radiohead/Phish/RHCP are 3 major league festival gets, but it seems like looking back, there was more firepower atop the lineups. So this year, the undercard IMO will be hard hitting on a lot of different fronts. Plus, they (hopefully) won't be spending (wasting) all that money on the big name rap acts that just don't sound good on the big stages and their performances don't really convey to it. I really hope Mac Miller is in a tent (maybe LN tent?)
Along with this theory comes the fact that scheduling could see extreme conflicts for a lot of people.
RHCP headlined Coachella 5 years ago. The 2012 vs 2002 argument doesn't hold. They are just as big in 2012 as they were in 2007. They will headline unless they do a LN What Stage act, as an almost headliner (like Jay Z) or unless they do a split HL (like Beasties/Byrne). If Phish gets a LN spot for a second show, then RHCP won't (they've never had 2 LN What shows in the same year since I started going in 07). I can't think of any other band who might play that's on RHCP's level of fame and would split HL duties with them. By process of fairly reasonable elimination, my money is that they will headling Friday night.
Even 5 years ago, they were waaaaay bigger than they are now.
Get over it, gramps. They're headlining. Deal with it.

I second the rap notion. Jay-Z was the only one actually worth it. Kanye is good, but can be a disaster if he's in a mood. Eminem was good, but disappointing when you compare him along with #1 headliners elsewhere. Wayne was horrible. Snoop is fun, but meh. I hope festivals stop thinking they're worth it. Give me a rock band.
It seems that, at this point, we either get 4 headliners (2010) or 3 headliners + major 2nd line bands (2011, 2009). Even with Radiohead/RHCP/Phish as the Top 3, we'll either see someone major on Saturday with Radiohead (Neil Young?) or a ton of major other bands (last year in 'not headlining positions we had Primus, SCI, MMJ, Springfield, Keys).
there are people on this board who think rhcp will play on the WHICH? people who dont think they are a "top 3" band?? this place is really something else

Haha that article about Daft Punk got me so pumped. Then I stopped and realized... too good to be true. Can we even imagine a Saturday night Radiohead -> Daft Punk Late Night? Oy

that would be a level of greatness the mind wouldn't know what to do with
Let me preface this post by saying that I think there is a 1% chance of Daft Punk playing this year (and that's gone up from 0.01% before that article). BUT, if we did get Daft Punk, this would be the best Bonnaroo ever:
With the way leaks have been going recently, I don't think Bonnaroo can hold off giving us the lineup much longer. Also, they should respect my sanity.
Who the hell cares if RHCP are in the "top 3" or what the billing is. They're a headliner, and anyone who says anything else is a dumbass. They could be 4 if we get another big name headliner, ala Neil Young or Daft Punk. Look at Jay-Z in 2010. But to say they won't headline or play Which is laughable.

A) I would never try to claim they wouldn't be a "headliner" even if the term is used "loosely"
