Do people really think Neil Young would be higher billed than RHCP? Neil Young and Crazy Horse open for Dave Matthews Band. There's no way they'd be billed over RHCP.
We'll just have to wait and see; DMB is billed over RHCP at Hangout Fest..
I'm thinking that RHCP will probably be playing Saturday night (think Stevie Wonder's set), followed by a semi-opposed What LN act. That's the only thing that makes sense given what we know.
That would make sense but what if that was reversed. Like ??(Stevie's spot)>RHCP? That's kinda how I look at it.
Or what if it was RHCP (What) vs. Paul Simon (Which)? I can see that as well.
That would be a good crowd split like Byrne/Beasties in 09
the way insider wrote it, it seemed like she was responding to the daft punk questions (with regards to the 'current') part.
i don't think the beach boys would be the band that they would be hard to lock down.
and with the announcement of neil young and crazy horse going on the road just recently, it would point to him. the only reason i would not be certain it's him is because he just played last year.
i'm praying for prince. but i wouldn't consider him not-so-current
'older' (no-so-current?) acts that haven't been considered much (recently): bob seger, rush, ac/dc, eric clapton.

Trying not to get my hopes up but considering Neil Young and Crazy Horse just recently announced plans for live performances as well as the fact that Neil seemed to be having a great time last year I could see them as the "not so current big act" that they are trying to lock down.

My mind really jumped to either Dre & Snoop to fill the hip hop void or Santana to fill the old classic void. McCartney, the Stones, etc. just seem too big to go with this lineup. The Beach Boys or Paul Simon would make sense for a split, but I would think that a split would go on Friday, like last year. I honestly think it's got to be someone who would be billed above Radiohead (whether because they're rare or classic or just bigger). This mystery band, as I see it, is headlining Saturday and RHCP is playing LN What Stage either Friday or Saturday.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I sure hope its not Snoop and Dre......They are definitely NOT headlining material! Maybe ten years ago, but not in todays day and age. I was SHOCKED to see them on the Chella lineup as Headliners.
I think there is a strong chance we still see the Stones thrown into the mix.
Would TOOL or Pearl Jam still be considered? I cant imagine that this Saturday HL slot is going to The Beach Boys or Paul Simon.
I see "not so current" as a band that doesn't played shows for a while.
I also don't think it's a top 3 band, but I do think it's a top 6 band.
Agreed.
While RHCP maybe the weakest saturday night headliner in quite sometme. Their singles catalog is vast and they fit the spot(70 million records sold/constant airplay since the early 90s). I'd agree they are looking for a Preheadliner or Which stage act to beef up Saturday, but can and will go with RHCP if that falls through.
What if they finally got Outkast to reunite? They could demand an unopposed What set.
Really doubt they got them to reunite.
They're supposedly already reunited and working on an album together. They see each other a decent amount, both living in ATL or at least having homes here.
As much as they'd be THE group I'd like to see maybe more than any, I think next year (if ever) would make the most sense for them after they hopefully release a new album.

Does anyone else think that it's really strange Radiohead will play Friday night? I'm genuinely surprised by that. I know everyone said RHCP couldn't play Friday because of their tour schedule, ect.
Just seems to me (and I'm not even that big of a Radiohead fan) like a big name for Friday night, that's all.
Insider really left alot for us to be stunned over.

My main point was that I don't think they'd reunite for a festival appearance. Sure, there might be some festival appearances if they reunite and tour again but I'd imagine that they'd go all out (new album, full tour, tons of news/rumors leading up to it). I don't think that their first show back together would be Bonnaroo but stranger things have happened.

i'm more of the opinion that a former headliner wouldn't count as a "non-current" band. ya Crazy Horse hasn't played in a while, but NY never went anywhere.
I agree with atlenergyguy: an Outkast reunion has been in the works for a while. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's a much more reasonable possibility than Daft Punk or something.
Here's my hierarchy of reasonable guesses that I've seen : 1. Beach Boys (although I can't believe this wasn't nailed down already). 2. Paul Simon 3. Dre/Snoop 4. Neil Young Crazy Horse (would be higher but I don't consider NY non-current) 5. Outkast 5 and a half (don't want to renumber) Roger Waters 6. D'Angelo 7. Macca 8. Prince 9. Jeff Mangum 10. Tool 11. Pearl Jam 12. John Lennon 13. Bowie

I am thinking who ever it is for Saturday night is bigger than RHCP, or insider would have named RHCP as Saturday HL. And she basically said we will be amazed and they are an older band. I am thinking Stones or McCartney maybe Prince. Can hardly wait for next week.
