Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I'm pretty sure it's going to be Furthur. Phish has their own festival and may want a bit more money than Furthur, and being as the Dead has not played Roo in awhile seems to make more sense to me.
Phish had their own festival in '09 and again this year when they played Outside Lands. They'll still do festivals, regardless of their own commitments.
That being said, I still think we get Further. Who knows how much longer the Dead will be around, and they haven't played in some time.
Say Kanye in Milwaukee for Summerfest and he did the same set at Coachella except a few songs with Kid Cudi.. such an amazing show. Anyone who is knocking on Kanye has never seen him live before. For a rapper he really puts so much emotion and energy into his performances. I would love to see him at Roo next year.
A lot of people here wanted to see him live but he felt it was more important to party in the ATL than to show up at Bonnaroo. I do not see him coming back anytime soon.
You do realize the reason he was late is because the act before him ran long and then it took a lot longer than expected to set up the stage.

Dude there are pictures of him at a party in atlanta as late as 1:30 and from most reports of people waiting his stage was ready to go well before then. He had to charter a plane and was not even present until well after his scheduled time to go on. According to recent article the wifi password at AC is still kanyesucks, and there is a reason those portos that say the same thing are always put in the same order. So like I said I doubt we will see him anytime soon again.
EDIT If he were to be booked again, I wonder how much of his fee they would withhold as a contingency against him not showing up. I am pretty sure they feel they did not get good value for his half a million last time.

I don't think so. I just really don't like it. Then again, modern hip hop for the most part doesn't connect with me so well.
Yes it technically is "modern hip hop" but it's not like you hear highschoolers going around town blasting if from their Grand Marquis's or hearing it all over the radio; it's quite different. OFWGKTA's music is fun, entertaining, & pretty chill for the most part. I like it. SO SHUT THA PHUCK UP!

Yeah, none of this info is all that new. I always figured after hearin' about Kanye's bein' in ATL so late that Pearl Jam played longer so there'd be less dead time on the What. They did AC/S a favor by continuin' to kick ass when Kanye dropped the ball. And boy did he ever drop it.

I don't think we get Kanye just because it doesn't make much sense from a business decision.
It's not like they feel they're running low on headliners, so why would they go with a guy they had a terrible experience with last time, and who a sizeable portion of the Bonnaroo community still feels animosity towards. There's just no reason why it would happen.
Bonnaroo is a business, and businesses don't exist to give people second chances. Although I would absolutely love to see a Kanye show, I don't think it will happen at Bonnaroo.

I take exactly the opposite outlook. I agree, Bonnaroo is a business and they just had the fastest sell out, perhaps in the history of their business by booking a rap headliner as the top act. Also consider the amount of rap/hip hop on the line up this year. I think the potential of Kanye is equal to that of Eminem. He shares the same appeal Eminem does.
I know I met many more first timers this year. Also, in most interactions with random people I had, the minority were not there to see jam. I'm not saying Bonnaroo is giving up on jam, but being a business and the success of this year. I'd argue they are more inclined to book acts that appeal to the mainstream or many groups of people. Kanye fit's that mold well. Not to say other types of music don't, but Kanye is an easy homerun.

So your theory is that they will rehire a guy who ripped them off for half a million dollars?
On another note I really hope you are wrong, when I follow your statement to the logical end the Black Eyed Peas end up being the main headliner every time.

I agree with most of this, one thing I have to say about Jam fans and why there will always be Jam bands at Roo. We will follow them from town to town, state to state. Most people who follow mainstream just go see the one show when it comes to their town.
Animal Collective (5.30-7.00) -> The Raconteurs (8.00-9.30) -> Radiohead (10.30-12.30) Ben Harper & Relentless7 (8.45-10.15) -> Massive Attack (1.00-3.00) Mike Gordon (6.15-8.15) -> Umphrey’s Mcgee (1.00-4.00) CSS (12.30-1.30) -> The Australian Pink Floyd Show (2.15-4.30) Nas & Damian Marley (12.30-2.00) -> Manu Chao (2.30-4.00)
Adele (6.15-7.30) -> Outkast (8.30-10.00) -> Prince (11.00-2.00) Ryan Adams (6.45-8.00) -> Wilco (8.45-10.45) -> The Roots (2.15-4.00) MGMT (6.45-8.15) -> Justice (2.00-4.00) Andre 3000 (12.30-2.00) -> Pretty Lights (2.30-4.00) Crystal Castles (12.30-2.00) -> Death From Above 1979 (2.30-4.00)
Death Cab For Cutie (6.00-7.30) -> Furthur (8.30-11.00) Zac Brown Band (6.15-8.15) Bon Iver (6.45-8.15) Superjam ft. Thom Yorke and Andre 3000 (7.00-8.30) Fleet Foxes (6.15-7.45)
BMan, you're my boy, but there is no chance in hell anyone gets andre to play 1 show in 2012, let alone 2 in one night.

I agree that Bonnaroo make look to the success of last year when booking for this year, but I don't see that making it any more likely for Kanye to return. There are so many mainstream acts they could book before resorting to Kanye, who is the exact opposite of "an easy homerun". Why would AC look at Kanye as a sure-fire thing when the last time he played was an absolute disaster for the festival. He was nothing but a huge problem to work with leading up the festival, his set was a disaster, and he scathingly attacked them on his blog afterwards. Explain why this would make AC/S look to Kanye for an easy homerun?

Eminem and Kanye having the same amount of commercial appeal as the Black Eyed Peas may be true in the quantity of fans and radio play. The analogy fails in an artistic sense, unless you are taking the position the Black Eye Peas are as relevant to Mr. West and Em in mainstream hip hop. Also, go to a Black Eyed Peas show and compare the median age of the crowd, along with what activities are taking place. Do the same at a Kanye West show and tell me which crowd is more likely to go to Roo.
The risk is worth the reward. Simply reference a few posts earlier in which Ashley Capps not only took the time to see him at Coachella, but compliments his set. Add that to those on this board which seem to support a return. Most Kanye West fans accept the fact he is a giant DOUCHE.
Anthony Kiedis Ashley Capps Rumors of epic Kanye guest roster tonight. This squid brain can't wait to see him )
ashleycapps Ashley Capps So the rumors weren't true. I love that! But the way Bon Iver was integrates into Kanye's show was interesting. "Still" was beautiful. 18 Apr

I made the home run analogy because when one generally hits a home run they swing for the fences or in other words, uses lots of force and takes a shot. I'm not advocating this as proof Kanye will be at Roo next year. I'm simply taking the position that booking him is an easy means to capitalize on the crowd base Roo just drew this year. Thus, it is not inconceivable he makes a return.
While I agree there is plenty of other mainstream bands they could book in his place. The amount of rap artists that would help to sell out Roo are limited to an elite few. Now it could be, Bonnaroo, like Coachella, is more an event or place to be, and it's reputation will cause it to sellout regardless. Time shall tell.

The risk vs the reward? What is the real reward for AC? He could book a number of different acts instead of Kanye and still sell out Roo quickly and there would be less risk. One band won't make or break a sell out (usually) for a festival, it's more about (in Roo's case) diversity and having several solid hitters and a few big names, if you look at any of the possible lineups that include Kanye and replace him with Black eyed peas or Vanilla Ice the difference in sales might be a week or two longer before it sells out.
You guys realize how big of a story Kanye coming back would be? Stop trying to justify the collective weird grudge.
Yeah it is weird how music fans who spend a large amount of their income going to concerts and festivals can hold a grudge after being disrespected by an artist.
What "risk" would there be in booking Kanye? I mean, I guess you could say theres a risk of him not showing up/showing up late again, but I really really doubt that would happen. It seems to have been a fluke scenario, because honestly the dude plays a ton of shows per year including several festivals and roo '08 was the only time anything like that ever happpened.
As far as replacing Kanye with BEP or Vanilla Ice... well... that has to be just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard...

Actually it was happening all the time that particular tour there was a lot of talk of it on here and whether or not it would happen. He does seem to have cleaned up his act these days however.
I think the big reason they would not bring him back is that there is a relatively strong possibility of a kanye sucks chant, or stuff being thrown at him in retaliation for 08. Neither of these are things that I would imagine going well for him. Add on all the crap that went on with his crew, fistfights, and kicking AC personnel out from behind stage and I am still of the opinion that it will not be happening anytime soon. I think it is slightly more likely that we would get a WTT show, however I think even that is a strecth at this point.

Exactly^ All it takes is one fucked up wook waiting to get into the pit and then hurling bottles of piss to ruin the show. You don't think there will be some anti-Kanye signs and posters? The man was a huge headache after the booked him, a disaster for the festival, then came out and publicly attacked the festival. And re-booking him would create a lot of risks that most other artists wouldn't need to worry about. You guys need to face it that a Kanye Redemtion is probably just not going to happen.
I love Kanye. I love Bonnaroo. I would love to see Kanye at Bonnaroo. I've accepted that I'm not going to.
I was there. (Always makes me think of LCD when I type that). I missed every single late night Saturday of '08 after Pearl Jam waiting and waiting and waiting for Kanye. I saw Kanye. I was ticked off by Kanye's lateness. That being said I don't have a grudge anymore, at all. Guy was a douche, but I would love to see Kanye perform again at Bonnaroo '12 if it were to happen, because Kanye is an awesome performer (Roo '08 performance aside).

Easy fix, and a win win. Stop having headliners go unopposed. When Kanye is on, we will have two mid-level jam acts going in the tents. This reduces the amount of wooks with nothing to do, and also spares the ham sandwiches when KOL take the stage in 2013.

I don't think a Kanye return is completely out of the question for some point in the future, but I don't anticipate it either. If it was just a late show-up and schedule shuffle, that would be one thing, but I think all of the mudslinging backstage and the weeks after the festival make it less likely. I think it might take someone from Kanye's camp reaching out to the folks at AC/S before any serious negotiating takes place.
Capps enjoying the Coachella performance, resulting in a '12 appearance is a big stretch of logic. He isn't the only decision maker in regards to the lineup.
