This. The same goes for MMJ. As near and dear as we may hold these bands to our hearts (and for good reason), they're not blazing any new ground in the collective mainstream conscience.

Bwa ha ha ha. MMJ plateaued, good one
I think he means popularity wise, not as far as quality output.
I personally feel like they are on the upswing, but it will take a new album to see how popular that have/will become. I agree with S2's theory.

Pretty tough to say a band peaked popularity wise when all they have done is gain popularity with each album/tour they've done. If after a couple more albums they don't get any bigger you could say that, but not during an upswing.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Yea I agree with Bacon. Roots have a higher profile right now than Modest Mouse, and if Florence's new album plays off as well as her last one did, I could see her playing the last set before the What headliner on the Which. It's not necessarily the "unopposed buffalo springfield slot" since that was the first year I've seen them even have that spot. Special circumstance.
the roots have a high profile? They play alongside jimmy failon. With Big Boi producing their next record, I forsee modest mouse having their biggest hit since float on, if not bigger. it might even sound fresh and new, compared to the last two records, whcih basically consisted of a sober Isaac trying to recreate his drugged out genius.

You're just making huge generalizations here. MM haven't released an album in awhile and the last one definitely wasn't as good/close to as big as "Good News."
The Roots have been on Fallon every night and playing a bunch of festivals. They're bigger than MM right now.
