I get the feeling Wilco is going to be a Friday night headliner or coheadliner in 2012 based on album reviews so far...and maybe they start to play bigger venues in the winter-spring. I think Radiohead tours next year and for some reason, The Cure...since Roger O'Donnell has started playing with them again. Sooo: Radiohead - The Cure - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Wilco - Furthur anyone?

I would LOVE for a Wilco headlining spot. I think it would be possible if the other 2 headliners are considered ''bigger'' bands.
Prince | Radiohead | Wilco Fleetwood Mac | The Raconteurs | Paul Simon | Jim Carrey The Roots | Ryan Adams | Death Cab For Cutie | Animal Collective | Bon Iver
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

It's more of "lmao" if anything, definitely not a "LMAO."
I personally think they could headline Bonnaroo because of their standing with the fest and a lack of Roo-like Friday night headliners available. They've also pre-headlined on Saturday before. I can see how some might not agree with that though.

Regarding Wilco, I also don't mean just you guys on the bonnaroo internet forum. But a lot of non-professional critics/fans have liked the album so far.

If MMJ didn't headline I don't think Wilco would.... and the Cure would never Pre-headline. Headline or bust. But if they did I wouldn't care.... I just want Pictures of You on the farm.
I adore Wilco as much as anybody else on this forum, but they won't headline... yet. However, I could see a sizeable jump in popularity if the new album does well, which it should; The Whole Love is easily on a par with A Ghost Is Born, and if pressed to pick one of the two as the best album since Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, I'd go with the former.
If Wilco plays next year, I imagine they'd be around #4-5 on the lineup - possibly #3, possibly #6. It's doubtful they will be outside of that range, but I might have said the same thing about Arcade Fire before they released The Suburbs, too. The most likely spot I see them playing would be what MMJ got this year - 8-10 What, opening for another act after them. But I would love a marathon-length LN Which set.
If Solid Sound is going to be in late June again like it was this year (it was in mid-August the first year), that might work in favor of a Roo appearance - they could organize a late spring / early summer tour in support of the new album that included Roo and culminated in Solid Sound. I may be getting ahead of myself here, but hey... where would we be without wishful thinking?
Comparing Wilco to Arcade Fire doesn't make any sense. One is a band with an extended back catalog that has been making music for the better part of two decades. The other just released their third record, with a huge hype machine behind them.
Arcade Fire did 3 nights at an 8,000 seat venue in Chicago, something that Wilco will never pull off in their own hometown.

The Foo Fighters just rocked us for 2 hours and 40 minutes last night in St. Paul. Their energy would be great at Roo. I have a feeling we get them or the Chili Peppers next year.
Arcade Fire was the best headlining joke since Sting trying to hit a high note, so that's that. And the Foo Fighters will be there.. for better or for worse (coming from a RHCP/foo fighter fan who can only shake his head at their most recent records)

Wilco getting the MMJ spot or a 3-4 hour LN set would make me happy.
Like I said, if the top is heavy I could see Wilco headline Sunday with a "big" band on Which like say The Pixies. I only see this happening if they book 2 of these bands: The Rolling Stones, U2, Prince, some big reunion band, Roger Waters + David Gilmour.

I don't really care where Wilco ends up next year, I know I'll be there. I'm also absolutely in favor of the Foo Fighters over RHCP, their show at Hangout was one of the best shows I've seen all year, they really do have great energy. I'd be ecstatic with something that looked like:
Radiohead - Foo Fighters - Further - Dr. Dre - Wilco - DFA1979
This. The same goes for MMJ. As near and dear as we may hold these bands to our hearts (and for good reason), they're not blazing any new ground in the collective mainstream conscience.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I think MMJ has become significantly more popular since the release of Circuital. They have headlined multiple festivals this year, performed on Storytellers, and their album charted #5 on the Billboard 200. They also charted #1 at Indie Retail. I know this isnt a good fact to use, but I will say that most of my friends are casual music listeners and had never heard of MMJ or never listened to them before Circuital. Now they all know who MMJ is and most of them are fans now. Their next release will be the most anticipated and if they deliver like the always do then there is no reason to think that they wont get bigger.
MMJ has not plateaued IMO

agree 100%. they are on the Black Keys road I think. Black Keys had released multiple albums and were always on the cusp. They changed the sound a bit with Attack and Release and when they released Brothers, they exploded. I think its very possible Circuital is "MMJ's Attack and Release". Their next album has a chance to be "their Brothers". If it comes out and has a couple good singles, its going to throw them well into mainstream music.
