Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
2011 was a big year for Dawes, but they haven't been on the farm since 2010 and they didn't even get to play a stage then. They are more than due back.
I wouldn't mind if Robbie Robertson joined them, but I'd prefer just to see them as is considering the fact that Robbie can't sing and Taylor Goldsmith can.
In a lot of ways they remind me of The Band both in sound and in ethos. They were incredible when they backed M. Ward on his Tennessee tour. But when you discover a band live you always want to see them again once you're more familiar with their music.
I have a feeling they'll be back. Would love to see them with Robertson, and hoping we get Middle Brother as well. Nothing Is Wrong was actually my second my favorite album of the year, just behind Bon Iver, who I believe will be back as well. When Dawes played Bonnaroo in 2010, as of Saturday, they had sold the most CD's by any artist at the festival. That's really saying something considering they played on one of the smallest stages there.
I fully promote Dawes. While I didn't make it to Bonnaroo in 2010 due to school, they traveled the 12 hours to play a free show in Pittsburgh the day after their Bonnaroo performance. They held down an hour and a half set, and had tons of older folk who just came out for the free show up and dancing around.
They were indeed sold out of cds (due to the demand at Bonnaroo), but that didn't stop people from buying up all of their vinyls as well (which came with a cd).

I think this year Deer Tick takes a break but John McCauley could still be down there in the form of Diamond Rugs. Dawes, Delta Spirit, and Middle Brother could still be there as well.

Could see that. I am super excited for the Diamond Rugs album...
Dawes has been blowing up since Nothing is Wrong came out and I fully except them to keep getting bigger. The strategy of opening for and playing with every single band they can, along with tons of festies thrown in, has won them a lot of fans. I would be really surprised if they don't get a real set this year. Not sure if they are a Thursday or early day weekend set though. Either way I will be there.
I really don't want to waste them by having them play with Robbie. While still being a great guitar player he never was a great singer and now he is down right bad
Edit: Now if they wanted to be the back line for a Band tribute superjam that is a VERY different story

Yeah, Robbie sucks at singing. He is a hell of a guitar player though. I just sort of ignore his voice when I listen.
I'd prefer just a Dawes set, but if they did a Last Waltz tribute with Dawes and Robertson being joined by guests to recreate the movie that would be the greatest thing ever. Even if they did do something like that I'd still want a Dawes only set at some point in the weekend.

yes please....I saw their sonic stage set in 2010 without knowing anything about them (I think we just sat there because we found shade), and they were AMAZING
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Gah. I've never took the plunge into Diamond Rugs till today.

Delta Spirit is one of my favorite Roo memories.
They got re-scheduled to a tent show after their flight was screwed up and they ended up being the last act (or second to last) and it was awesome. I was right up on the rail when they were setting up and Matt (lead singer) was handing out cigarettes to anyone who wanted one (as opposed to bumming them from the fans). Anyway, they played an awesome set on other people's instruments and the whole show was fantastic.

i was right up front too. i think they were supposed to play that night at like 7 pm or something. i can't remember how i found out that the show had been moved back but so glad i did. it was a little strange for them to follow the dance party that passion pit threw down but it was such a magical opening night to bonnaroo with that incredible monsoon.

We had the exact same experience. Just wandered up to the stage and my wife and I were hooked immediately. One of my favorite things about Roo is just walking around finding amazing stuff.

They make great studio record, but it seems like everyone has the same first Dawes experience. They somehow end up seeing the band live (via festival or opening for someone or whatever) and become instantly hooked.
Another thing that made that Delta Spirit show so great was the heavy rain. It was so much more cozy under this tent than my tent. Plus they played with passion and have some great songs.
