Hey mods--I was thinking today about how we could possibly get more traffic in this sub-forum. Would it be possible to combine the bands/shows and music - cds and album reviews sub-forums and just put all of those topics in this space? That way there's only a festival sub-forum inside of here (which makes sense), and all of the chatter about albums and other bands and stuff can go here. It seems silly to have them separate like they are, and I feel like maybe people would post in here more if they opened up The Music Lounge and all of the topics were just right there. Anyone agree?
I think the best option would be to rename "bands and shows" to "Tour dates and Shows." Then move everything from "Music- CDs and album reviews" in here. And move the threads from "bands and shows" that have nothing to do with shows and dates in here too.

This is a good idea too, but the first one is a really great idea
It's basically the same thing Zapp said only leave a subforum just for shows similar to the subforum just for fests. Sure we could just sticky a tour dates topic in the main music lounge forum, but having a subforum just for shows would allow people to make threads for meetups at shows and stuff while not having them in the midst of a clusterfuck of threads discussing music/albums/etc.
Personally I think Zapp's idea makes the most sense; if only because, logistically, when something comes up about a band or new album there is usually immediate discussion about the tour that will follow said band/album. I think all of us who regularly use this sub-forum actively participate in all the sub-topics. It's just more stream-lined to not have them separated.

I liked the idea from @jeffp1717 and will likely work on a change over the weekend but if there are other ideas for this section now is the time to discuss them and this is the thread to do it in.

Yeah and typically (what I am picturing anyway) that thread for a specific artist's release would become just the thread where you talk about that specific artist going forward. It would just be nice to see a bunch of discussions on genres and artists in here, and those kinds of things are pretty buried as is.
EDIT: Which is why, while I agree to a point about the shows/tour dates stuff being separate, if it gets to be where there is a thread on Radiohead's upcoming music and then another thread on Radiohead's upcoming tour dates separate, then it becomes a bit of a problem with splitting would-be discussions in half.

I agree about multiple threads potentially splitting discussions in half. In my mind there could be a "Radiohead" thread which discusses new releases as well as tour dates. Like, instead of searching the tour dates section for a tour dates thread or making a single thread for a specific show it'd be all in one spot. For example, when Jack White went on tour there were multiple threads just for that and his new release. One for the album, one for the tour dates in general, and then a few threads just for specific shows. I think better discussion could be generated if they were all together.
It's also cool to follow something as it goes along. Like someone reading the thread from the beginning could see people's reactions to the album, mixed in with reviews of live shows and things like that.

Yeah exactly. I think it'll all happen organically. We don't have to get crazy and make threads for each artist ever, but just bump the ones we have already and go from there.

Definitely. I'm on another forum where we sort of had that kind of change happen organically and it's been enjoyable. If someone see's a band is releasing an album and that band doesn't have a thread they can make one. It's not really a hard rule that we would enforce but it could be a better way to discuss bands/tours/albums.
Instead of things being discussed for a short time and then dropping down below other threads forever they would be located in one thread and anyone would be able to easily find it. After a year it would be interesting to go through the thread from before a new release to after the tour that supported it and see how our thoughts/opinions changed or what shows were awesome and what shows had problems. Instead of letting the discussion die it sort of lives on in case others didn't read it initially.

Made the changes that were mentioned. The Festivals sub-forum remains but the other active threads were moved into this main area. I moved most of the threads, but some that were many years old without much activity (less than 14 posts) were pretty much left behind. If there are any specific threads you guys can think of that should be brought back then just let me know
