I feel weird agreeing with Juggs but I do in this case. It does have a total retro 70's disco vibe to it and yes, I agree with what someone said about it being a grownup record. It is good, not great IMO but I do find a couple of real catchy songs on it (especially Give Life Back to the Music and Motherboard).

Also, people are outright fooling themselves if they honestly think Daft Punk tours this record.
It'd be easier if you just added this to your signature. You know people are going to be expecting them to tour and will bring it up again and again and again...even with them saying they aren't planning to.
This album is so late 70's early 80s.....PLEASE take me back into time, put me on top of a speaker at the Limelight again and play this.....just for one night.

I didn't particularly care for the album. It was good, but definitely not what I want to hear from Daft Punk. However I recently read that they are going to be doing remixes of a lot of the songs as well as allowing other artists to do the same (similar to Tron) and I think this will be really awesome and a lot closer to the Daft Punk record everyone was expecting. I'd even venture to say that Daft Punk created RAM with this in mind.

Yes, I'm sure that when they've explained in many, many interviews how they wanted to make an organic album, and how they feel that modern EDM has grown stale and complacent, what they really meant was that they were just churning out these tracks so Skrillex could throw them in a live set with lots of clanks and drops. In fact, I would imagine that they went to the trouble of hiring all these incredible musicians and recording on analog not to help the album breathe, nor to make something more human and intimate, but rather to give Avicii and Steve Aoki a nice clean canvas with which to paint their next fist-pumping masterpiece. Makes sense.
Never said it was the sole reason they made RAM, but I'm not going to say that it didn't play some role in their creative decisions. They've said before that sampling is a huge hassle. What they did was create a record that emulates the styles they sample, giving themselves a ton of material to work with in the future in which they can avoid all the legal issues behind sampling from another artist. Was it the only reason? No. But I highly doubt that at no point during recording they said to themselves "think of what we could turn this into farther down the road"

Actually, this makes sense the more that I think about it. You know, when I buy a bunch of really expensive grass-fed Argentinian strip steaks, season them with a crust made from rare Cambodian pepper and Fleur de Sel, then proceed to perfectly sear each side en route to glazing them with natural garlic butter and a perfect medium-rare finish, while opening a fine bottle of Chapoutier Bordeaux, what I'm really doing is just preparation for the next step in my dinner's evolution. That's where I grind the steak up in a food processors, make it into patties, batter dip it and deep fry it and serve it with ranch dressing, then pour the wine into a blender with a ton of ice and triple sec and make frozen sangria.
I fail to see how your analogy is in anyway similar to what I said. Daft Punk sampling Daft Punk to make new Daft Punk songs is hardly the same as

Store near me makes waygu and kobe burgers like that. They are delicious, but I always feel bad eating them. Also, their sangria is amazing, and you can get some Chapoutier wines pretty cheap around here.
I enjoy the album. I think it is fantastic. But just like the cattle farmer needs to feed the masses in order to pay the bills, I am ok with others enjoying it in their own way as well.

Like I said, I enjoy the album. It's definitely grown on me the more I listen to it. But I wouldn't say it's anywhere near as good as Discovery or Homework.
I was just sharing my thought that this album gives them a lot of material to work with in the future. I don't think it's a coincidence that this soon after the album comes out they are already sharing their plans to make remixes of it.
I'm listening to it now. First time ever listening to Daft Punk. The instrumentation is fantastic and there are some stand out moments for sure. I'm on 'Touch' at the moment so I will be back after to share my thoughts.
Edit:
So after first listen it was pretty good. I enjoyed the instrumentation on a lot of the songs. There's only one song I remember not liking and that was Instant Crush. It was kind of boring and didn't seem to go anywhere. It's probably just the placement on the album though. The four songs before it were really good and this one just kind of seemed bleh in comparison. I REALLY liked Touch and Doin' it Right. Those 2 songs would probably be my favorites although 'Get Lucky' keeps getting better. It's a standout song on the album and my introduction to Daft Punk.
Not what I was expecting but it got me interested in listening to more of their stuff, which I hear is different. On first listen though I enjoyed it!
I've been pretty much only listening to this for the past week and a half. Taking forced breaks to turn something else on.
I just don't know what else I can say. It's really that good. Like, put my head down and pound my fist on the table good. The more I listen to it the more I love it. Electronic music in general has been pissing me the eff off lately. There has been some moments but I have have been fine tuning my preferences regarding the genre for 15 years now. I feel that I'm quite picky and specific.
From first note to last it was musical love making in my ears.
Sorry, Guys. But I've heard Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. If I want to listen to those songs I'll put on those albums. What I wanted out of something I've been waiting four years for was different and fantastic. And that's exactly what I was given. It's different than any other Daft Punk. And it's pretty damn special.
I wish people could appreciate it more. It's so much better on this side.
It's a disco album. I'm not ashamed to say I love it though. Between this album and the new Pretty Lights album coming out next month, I think it's safe to say that EDM artists are starting to try and prove they are "real musicians" instead of computer nerds.
Also, this album would explain why they have no touring plans. You can't really do a typical EDM show to this album. If they are really planning on using holograms, then I suspect it'll be more like a Gorillaz show
So Liam Gallagher has opened up his stupid flaptrap again and said he could have written "Get Lucky" in an hour and basically called DP cowards for hiding behind robot masks. Anyone who says they don't listen to Kanye because they think he's a wanker, but listens to Oasis or Beady Eye is a hypocrite, or worse. Because Liam is the worst.

I'm suprised Liam said it would have only have taken him an hour to wrte "Get Lucky". I'm sure it only took Pharrell 10 minutes to write the lyrics.

I've listened to the album a couple time in it's entirety. First time through the only criticism I had was that I felt DP needed to up the bpms in Lose Yourself , you know, so I could lose myself to dance. The second time I gave it a spin was in my car on the way home yesterday. The bass playing stood out in ways that I couldn't detect in my craptastic ear buds during my first listen. Overall I think the album is a great... I'm diggin' the disco grooves.

I've gotten to the point that I can't listen to any one part. I need a start to finish listen every time.
