That's a near spot on review. The album is really, really good. And I'll listen to it a lot and it will be one of my favorites of the year, but it isn't really groundbreaking or revolutionary, but that doesn't have to take away from the great production and execution.
Feels like a modern disco album. They arent re-inventing the wheel here people. Its a fun album (especially for the summer), but I feel like people are giving it a little too much credit just because of the name attached to it (reminds me of an inforoo Radiohead thread....no offense, I love Radiohead). I will give them credit for the real instrumentation used on this album, its a refreshing change from a lot of the crap that's out there today. Overall, I will give this album a score of 6.8-7.2/10. Im sure it will grow on me, but I feel this is a fair score.
Again, its a fun album and Im glad to have some DP back in my life.
I would take it the other way and say some of you are trying to dislike the album because of the hype attached to it. Just because it's Daft Punk doesn't mean they have to reach into the heavens and create an album straight from the musical gods. I wouldn't consider myself a huge DP fan. I didn't start getting into them until a few years ago, and I didn't get excited for this album until I heard "Get Lucky" so I wouldn't consider myself to be caught up in the hype and I don't see how you can give this album anything less than an 8 and that's being pretty harsh in my opinion. This is solid A work, and definitely one of the best albums of the year to date. The production and execution is extremely on point. Are they reinventing the wheel? No. Why do they have to? Who is these days? Not a single album released yet would be considered ground-breaking in my opinion. This album shows range for them as a group, and is done in a professional manner where they pull off an album that's not only ahead of the fray of the rest of the modern artists in their genre, but is well done and a very enjoyable listen.

Nope. You don't know me, so you don't realize that I'm too old to give a shit about hype. I like what I like. It's not bad, in my opinion, it's just not that great.
I absolutely can not stand the synth put on Julian's voice for Instant Crush. Kills the track for me.
Lose Yourself To Dance is a classic! Makes me want to dance every time I hear it.
I feel like an idiot for not realizing that it is Julian Casablanca on Instant Crush until just now. I've been wondering which track he is supposed to be on. I think the reason I like the track so much is because I'm a huge sucker for falsetto.
I waver between thinking this album is one of the best albums I've heard all year to it being downright corny.
I feel exactly the same way. I can't figure out if all the corny synths, lyrics, and adult contemporary/lite FM is something I can look past, DP are making cool, or it's just cheesey. I've had a lot of fun trying to figure that all out, though.

To each their own and Im glad that you enjoy it, as do I. When you say things like "I don't see how you can give this album anything less than an 8 and that's being pretty harsh in my opinion" it really makes me scratch my head. I would love to know how you score an album? I feel like an 8 out of 10 for an album is a GREAT score (which this isnt deserving of). Anything higher than that means that the band or album is doing something really really special. You have to leave room in your scoring criteria for albums that truly are A+ material. This album is good and only that.

That's fair. I suppose I'm more generous than most if I try to score an album. I really don't have a science to it, I just go from my gut, and a bad album to me would be high fives low sixes, so I suppose we'd be a lot closer on our assessments than originally thought.

"This daft punk album would probably be really good to take drugs and listen to on a rainy bridge across the gulf of mexico but I dnt know ... Reminds me of when I was 19 really high and listened to kid a over and over again but I don't know if yung kids will get It ... I think the song with julian casablancas would be better with marky mark walbergs character from boogie nights doing the vocals ... The song with todd edwards makes me feel like I'm alone at waffle house and the jukebox is broken and only micheal mcdonald plays out of it ... Motherboard sounds like a coked up austrian guy working on chariots of fire soundtrack then got fired but I fuck with it." -- Diplo reviews Random Access Memories, also saying that he wants to listen to the song with Panda Bear 10 times in a row, the album makes him hate L.A., and it sounds like this. Diplo made a song with Bruno Mars and then says EDM is boring. I went from being a fan of his to thinking he is as shitty as Deadmau5
Lose Yourself to Dance and Get Lucky are instant classics. Giorgio by Moroder is just awesome, and Contact and Motherboard are pretty good too. Doin' It Right and Instant Crush are skippable, and most of the rest falls somewhere in the middle.
I don't think it's mind-blowingly amazing, nor do I think it's a massive letdown. It's a solid if not particularly innovative album, worthy of neither the excessive praise nor criticism that's already been heaped onto it.
1) The album is way more ambitious than I'd expect from Daft Punk. It's also more interesting than it is good. Daft Punk at their best sounds effortless. This is not effortless music. This is labored sounding music.
2) The more collaborative the track, the more successful it is.
3) I told my wife that the album reminded me of something Air would've put out. She looked at me blankly because she hasn't heard of Air. I tried to sing a few lines from Sexy Boy, but the blank look persisted.
4) The aforementioned wife really loves this album which is absolutely no surprise. Her parents came of age in the 70s and 80s and grew her up on a steady diet of Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, Elton John and Billy Joel. Soft AM appeals to her. Plus, she likes to dance.
5) Turns out going to the root of your inspirations, especially if those inspirations roughly proximate what you'd find on a 10CC album, is kind of a mixed bag.
6) I think Doin It Right is going to become the signature remix song. It is built for awesome remixes.
I'm just in love with the snippet of sound approach on the Fragments Of Time chorus. It's definitely the one song on the record that has a slight Fleetwood Mac vibe. I wondered how they would use their influence once they referenced them in some interviews as one of their favorites. Also has a great little solo that reminds me of the Digital Love synth solo.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

This. I don't think it'll land in my top 10 for the year, but it's not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. The idea that I have kept going back to is that it is an album that I appreciate rather than enjoy if that makes any sense.

Funny you mentioned the Air thing. Had a friend message me about the R.A.M. saying it sounded like Moon Safari.

I had a feeling I would be troubled with this album. "Get Lucky" and "Doin' It Right" are amazing, and Panda Bear should have worked on every track. I think the album is a bit too slow, and is more disco/funk influenced than I care for. Although most of the albums I have hated have ended up my favorites of all time, so here's hoping, haha.
If you like this album, you should definitely check out Sébastien Tellier's Sexuality album. Same sound, but better. The french REALLY like their funky disco stuff, I guess.

Now I am confused. I checked out the clip of Paul Williams in the Muppet Movie and it doesn't sound like the guy on the Daft Punk track at all.
Forgive my ignorance, but who is the guy singing on this track?! I have a mad case of "where the hell do I know this guy from?!?" syndrome right now that is preventing me from sleeping.
edit: Okay, I rewatched the Collaborators video with Paul Williams. I am stupid. Carry on everybody. It's the guy from the Muppet Movie.
Okay this is bugging me....Where I have I heard Paul Williams voice before?! (He is on "Touch", and "Beyond" on the album)
His voice reminds me of Hugh Jackman singing in a broadway play. Especially on "Touch"
This Paul Williams? (Little Enos)
He's had a prety prolific career as a songwriter. (Ahem, the Muppet Movie.)
Probably not the guy that you're asking about, huh?
No, that's exactly the guy. I completely love that the guy from the Muppet Movie, who is in his 70s, is a driving force on RAM. Paul Williams wrote a bunch of shizzy love songs in the 70s but also wrote some classics. He's the kind of guy you're not surprised to see on a Love Boat rerun, but his work with Daft Punk is truly inspired.

This is a joke, right? Please tell me you know who produced that album.
After further listening and dissecting. A close friend and fellow like minded electronic music fiend decided that this whole album can be summed up in one sentence.
