Jameis Winston is the stuff Sang's nightmares are made of.
There is always that sadness of when one of your opponents has a quality freshman and you know you are going to have to put up with them for one than just a season.

I am already predicting the "but Pitt sucks" routine, but I watched 90% of that game last night and Winston impressed the hell out of me. He stood into some big pressure and launched some rockets, imo he played well beyond his years.

Agreed. It is just one game, but I think he did about as well in the one game as can be expected. Pitt did send pressure after him several times without Winston losing it. Also, his accuracy was pretty great. There's a lot of QBs out there who couldn't hit 25/27 even on a bad defense.

Regardless of what you think of Pitt, Winston was very impressive last night. There's no way around that. Pitt actually had a top 20 defense last season and I don't think they lost much. We can talk about compiling your defensive stats in the Big East, but either way, Winston looked awesome last night.
My friend's little brother plays for Pitt (#93, the defensive end from Don Bosco Prep) and via my friend he basically said "we practiced with the fastest guy on our team as a QB to prep for the scrambles...Winston made that guy look like an offensive lineman." He also said Winston was great at fake-cadence/audibles and stuff to throw the defense off. From the sound of it, Winston didn't let them settle in at all last night and kept switching things up on his own to keep them guessing.
he played great, but you're right Pitt sucks. I'm not too worried about him playing that well in Death Valley.
From USA Today's preview: "— Defense: Pitt's defense will slot in alongside Florida State's and Virginia Tech's as the best in the ACC. It's so good, "

their defense is awful. he had all day to throw and his receivers were always wide open. it won't be that easy. he'll never have another game that good in his life. 25/27. come on!
Famous Jameis was super impressive, but take a look at their schedule until they play us.
Mon, Sept 2 @ Pittsburgh
Sat, Sept 14 vs Nevada
Sat, Sept 21 vs Bethune-Cook.
Sat, Sept 28 @ Boston College
Sat, Oct 5 vs Maryland
Sat, Oct 19 @#8 Clemson
It will be his first true road test as well as his first match up with a ranked team. We'll see how much that matters. I believe it will make a difference (or at least I hope it does!)

with that cake walk of a schedule he's going to be a Heisman hopeful by the time they play us. I think we'll have to send him back to reality. I just noticed that they have a bye week before they play us, I don't like that.

I don't think anyone is trying to argue that he is going to go 25/27 at Clemson but to ignore this game considering Pitt had a top 40 defense last season is just crazy. Also, he made several throws with the defense in his face.

he made 2 or 3 throws with pressure. all of the others were like playing catch in the back yard. I didn't realize how easy their schedule was before they play us. we both should be undefeated coming into that game. we'll see who is real then.

Like I said, it's just one game so far. He may end up being terrible over the course of the year, but you're acting like the game he played shouldn't count which is just silly.

so you're asking me to ignore the fact the he was playing a bad team and just say he looked amazing. I'm just being realistic. I said he looked good.

I am saying he played a team with a top 40 defense from last year that returned 9 starters, so it's not like he was playing an FCS team. You are giving the appearance that you think every game he plays until Clemson is totally irrelevant, and I believe that is folly. Edit: They were 17th last year in yards allowed per game.

key word last year. that defense isn't good. maybe it is when you play teams like UConn.

And Rutgers and Notre Dame and Louisville and Syracuse and Virgina Tech and Cincinnati.
what are the facts? Pitt has played one game and was destroyed. more facts they have more high powered offenses to play like Miami, GT and UNC. who will all avg. between 35-40 ppg. they may have been decent last year, this year they're going to give up a lot of points.
Chad Morris put some blame on Boyd for slowing down Clemson's offense. Seems kind of surprising he would put him under the bus like that.
He also said this about him.
Boyd has certainly had better statistical games but, given the stakes, it was among his very best since he came to Clemson, said offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
"I just can't say enough about Tajh Boyd," Morris said. "He never wavered. He never backed up. He's stronger and he's quicker. He played like a veteran quarterback should play."
Honestly, I think a lot has to do with keeping the team grounded. In the preseason, Dabo made a point to throw the preseason magazines featuring Tajh on the cover in the trash during a team meeting, trying to get them to not buy into the hype, unlike the 2008 team that got destroyed by Bama in the opener.

Yeah, I was wondering if that was more the case where he is trying to manage the hype on the team. After Saturday, it seems like talk about Clemson really exploded, and it would be easy for them to get too cocky especially since a lot of people feel Georgia may be the biggest test they face all season.

What are you basing this on other than the fact that a quarterback put on an incredible performance against them in their first game? Have you gone to practices or something? You think they're not good because they were made to look not good. It's a chicken/egg situation.
I've already said what I'm basing it on. they were not able to pressure him at all. his receivers were wide open all night. they did not look like a good defense at all. I said he had a great game but it was against a bad defense. I said he's not going to do this every game. I said I'm not afraid to play them. did I say anything that isn't true?
I like how Sang discredits a top-20 ranked defense from last year (that was predicted to again be a top-level defense) because it means acknowledging that FSU has a young QB who might be a nightmare to deal with for the next few years.

I'm not denying that he's going to be a great qb. but I am going to hold with the Pitt isn't a good defense. we'll see who is right about that.
