I know you of all people will never be able to appreciate lil b. You're way too miserable
Educate us all. Why is my being too miserable getting in the way of appreciating it?
Lll b is all about happiness and positivity. It's okay to laugh at his music. It's not comedy rap or a parody or satire. Hes just doing his own thing and I think it's great. Comparing his music or actions objectively to other rappers is a silly thing to do because its apples and oranges. Its just a really fun things he's doing

Laughing at his music for not thinking it's funny aside, none of this explains why I should find value in his work. He's not doing anything special. He's not doing anything new. If anything he's trolling the fuck out of his fans for finding passion in something so stupid.

Of course what he's saying is funny. That's why it's okay to laugh. It's not this big inside joke that everyone seems to think it is. Special is entirely subjective so there's no sense in arguing that. But I disagree what he's doing isn't new. Lil b certainly isn't a "traditional" hip hop artist. I think if he was making these songs the way Kanye West makes his songs he wouldn't be nearly as popular or relevant. His songs don't follow the verse-chorus-verse structure or any structure for that matter. He created his own platform to spread his message. I don't think it'll necessarily catch on and become a mainstream form of art. There's people who say things like "how can you listen to an album like MBDTF or the Illmatic and then say Lil B is good" but its just not a compaison you can make.

Don't act like he's reinventing the game by disregarding song structure. Getting a message out through shit music has been done many times over.
The only constant I've found in the #based community is being vague as fuck.
Do those things have to be related? Chance the Rapper's grandmother inspired Sunday Candy but that doesn't mean she has anything to do with hip hop
...yet you started a discussion about him in the hip-hop thread. Weird.
It's okay. Lots of people have terrible opinions when they're 20.
My original post was. "I wish we could have a legitimate discussion on Lil b's influence in hip hop." Which then branched out to a discussion on the merrits of Lil B himself.

Nevermind, scratch the Lil B discussion. I'm more interested in your position on black guitar players.

I appreciate you wanting to have a legitimate discussion on this. Really do.
I can't name many black guitar players except Hendrix. The guitarist in Total Slacker is black and he shreds. Cool Guy too. I don't see why there would be anything wrong with it
@jonesjupiter holy shit. I figured there was some sort of cryptic message there. You are Emoney are as creppy as they come.
Aren't you a teacher dude? It really concerns me that you are so obsessed with looking at pictures of a thirteen year old and pm your buddies about things that thirteen, fourteen or fifteen year olds say.

I'm fairly confident that he's not doing any of that stuff.

I'm fairly confident he just referred to a tweet I made in July of 2010. (Making me fifteen at the time) And has previously referred to Facebook statuses as far back as 2007 (Making me thirteen)
