How? I went in with sky high expectations and it blew those away
I think Compton is more exciting than it is great. It's fun to hear Dre actually rapping on some tracks again, and the production is pretty excellent (if a little one note at times), but this album really, really suffers from the inclusion of way too many features from Anderson Paak and Justus. They're just background noise, honestly. If Dre was going to have so many goddamn features, I wish he would have cut back on the obvious attempts at establishing new cash cows, and instead featured people who work more with his sound. Why not a verse or two from Kurupt? Some of the younger LA MCs would have worked, too - Jay Rock, YG, etc. Or, if anything, feature more of Jon Connor, who is actually a dope MC.
Agreed. The non-superstar verses aren't bad, but they do come across as mostly filler. Snoop, Em, Kendrick, and Xzibit came through with some very, very good verses, and outside of the production I think that they're what carry the album. I also wish we would have heard a new Nate Dogg hook or two - I'm sure he's got them laying around the vault somewhere.

Who else had an album that was thematically similar to TPAB?
I was more so alluding to the racially charged material and less about leadership. TPAB has roots in what Public Enemy did 25 years ago. Chuck D himself had found inspiration in what Run the Jewels have done this year. Killer Mike has been extremely active as I'm sure you know. I would fail to not mention Vince Staples and Joey Bada$$ in this conversation. Hell, even Big Sean and Future made reference to it this year.
"For my last two albums, that's what I've done. I don't want to go out and get the new hot artist that's out right now just to put it on my album and help it sell," Dre said. "I like working with new artists."
Then Lupe dropped this absolute fucking monster of a line:
God damn. So much double meaning in that line right there; after an initial read I already thought it hit harder than anything else in the Drake/Meek beef, and then I was reminded that Quentin Miller is supposedly the one responsible for penning some of Drake's lyrics and the line hit even harder. So fucking good. I've always loved Lupe but this is one of the best lines I've seen in a very long time.

This is great. Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) put out an open challenge to battle any rapper for charity:
Lupe accepted the challenge:

You need to listen to more hip-hop,then. That shit is wild corny. That's like some bullshit punchline shit that even Fabo wouldn't ham it up with. I mean Jesus Christ. Lupe can rap, but if he uses corny as shit like this then he's getting straight up bodied by Mos.

YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T HEAR IT?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!? There is a distinct different in Dre's voice on this album. On the first track, on his first rhyme, he sounds like Trick Daddy. Part of that is because the very first guy that rhymes on the album sounds even more like Trick Daddy (I think it's King Mez). He was much lower in his tone in the past. I suppose he adjusted his sound a bit in the recording process.

Yep, that's where I was headed with that statement. It's not too bad, just took me a second to figure out when it was him. I'm thinking I need to listen to it in the car more. Are they going to release it on compact disc? I always preferred listening to Dre on CD.

So much decent production and beats wasted on a talentless hack like Future
He's someone I've completely given up on trying to listen to. I've never enjoyed a single thing I've heard from him and I don't get why people like him.

1. NBS/Snowgoons 2. Jason Isbell 3. Tame Impala 4. Papoose 5. Wilco
I just want it to be on record that you called Future a telentless hack while repping a Papoose album in 2015.
I was gonna say that Papoose has a lot of talent, but then I saw you said 2015. Granted, I haven't listened to his newer stuff, but I assume that there's a reason for that.

It was mediocre. That 4th place ranking at the time was more from me not having listened to much else at the time than actually thinking it was a good album. I still hadn't heard (most notably) Titus Andronicus, The Chemical Brothers, or White Reaper yet. After another listen each, I'd put Ratatat and Wilco ahead of Papoose also.

That doesn't excuse, nor explain, why you thought listening to Papoose's dusty bullshit was a good idea in the first place. Suspect.
I used to listen to his stuff a bunch, back around 10 years ago. When I seen he had a new album, I thought it was worth a listen.
So let me get this straight: I'm getting shit because I found out about the existence of, and then listened to, an album which I even admitted was mediocre (at best). Y'all acting like I said it was as good as TPAB.
Also, I don't know why I'm wasting my time trying to defend myself here. This is never going to go anywhere, as Juggs can never be wrong.

Nah, you're getting shit for your lack of grammar. Pap has had some pretty good verses; I ain't mad atcha.

There's some decent spots, and there's some duds worth skipping over. Overall it certainly beats whatever crap Future puts out there.
You really hold hip hop to low standards, huh? Not defending Papoose, but DS2 is middling at best.
I think it's good. So do critics, fans, and generally most people that actually listen to rap that doesn't sound like it could have come out in 1994. So, to each their own I guess?
