It's a shame that somebody knows they caused this or were an active participant yet are too self absorbed to do the decent thing. Also, thank them for increased Police presence at your next festival. I hope something twice as tragic befalls those who rushed in and helped cause this.

Hard to believe the police only arrested 84 people all weekend. As fucked up as most people were it seems it would have been like shooting fish in a barrel if they really wanted to bust them. Sounds to me like security was understaffed and police presence was little or none. When that happens the mob rules.
Can't have it both ways... It is a private event. Which means a promoter must either hire them or provide their own security. Security and/or promoter ignored their warnings. A Police force may certainly gravitate towards a large event but you can't expect them to ignore Miami because there's an event. Most promoters do not hire Police because they cost more and make recommendations like fixing bad fences.
What I find a little ironic is that the mayor is calling for the fest to be shut down. But I clearly remember either last year or the year before reading about how Ultra was considered a huge benefit to Miami and how the fest was welcomed by city officials. It's just politics. Something bad happened and this is the cities response. Yet when things go well they're all about supporting it.
It is sad that a few ruin for the many though. Damn shame. I've never been to Ultra, but it looked like a pretty good time.

Well, that's generally the way anything and everything works. When something is working well, and is a general benefit to a city or person or group or country, it is supported and encouraged. When that same thing stops working so well, or when the cons start to outweigh the pros (i.e. people getting trampled), those same positions are often revised.
You can find dozens of council members, mayors, police officers, zoning board members, etc... arrested for corruption in just the last two years. When I lived there in the 1990s, it seemed like someone in power was getting arrested every other week. These people all play politics 24-7, that's how Miami works.

That's terrific. I fail to see how that has anything to do with Miami politicians rescinding previously stated support for Ultra in the wake of the trampling incident.

I think I hear this every year. I remember people thinking Bonnaroo's security/searches last year would be insane because of the Boston Marathon bombing but it seemed like business as usual for me.

Ha, I forgot about that! Someone was even worried Bonnaroo might not even happen. The sky can fall quickly sometimes.

Last year Ultra wanted to spread into two weekends. The City shut that idea down. Now with this it may shut down entirely.

Those are totally different events but I see your point. A more accurate test is how the Marathon is run this year.

The people who run Miami literally take the job to get payoffs and embezzle money. They will say whatever looks good in the paper that day. They don't support or not support things, they're talking heads.

Clearly they're doing something right. Tourism and real estate values are up. It's portrayed in countless video games, shows, music, etc..

Where is the financial windfall to be had in suggesting that this festival shut its doors?

Personal wealth vs. Public good.
Its the same reason DAs push for long jail sentences for criminals. When your job depends on public opinion, you aren't going to tell people things they don't want to hear. My uncle was on the zoning board in Miami, and had developers open briefcases of money in front of him to sign off on their project. He never took the money, and they made sure he didnt get on the board again. The people he knows did take bribes kept their jobs.
Politics is a dirty game. Ultra probably depends more on paying its bribes (I.e. hiring Miami cops, paying larger cut) than any real concern for safety.

You seem very bitter. But I'm having a hard time connecting the dots of your point. Sorry.
politicians always make a mountain out of a molehill. Fears sells and gets them reelected. Hows that TSA working for everyone?
Awesome! There have been no successful terrorist attacks since their inception. I'm sorry you're inconvenienced at the airport a tad.
You should do more research, just three months after the TSA went into mega security mode, a man snuck a bomb onto a plane in his shoe. He was stopped by PASSENGERS, not the TSA. In fact, the TSA has failed to document a single proven terrorist incident that they personally have stopped. Saying they're responsible for the lack of terrorist incidents is like saying human hair dust keeps dinosaurs away. Its not causal. In fact the CIA and FBI have a list of incidents they've stopped. The TSA is reduced to listing nail clipper and pocket knife intercepts as "weapons".
As far as my other point, I know for a fact politicians in Miami take bribes because my family was offered those bribes. We didn't take them, but it wasn't a one time occurrence. Most of them aren't honest and don't give two craps about the public good. They endorse whatever sounds good in the paper. They'd cancel Christmas if you paid them enough.
As far as DAs, its the same issue. The reason we put innocent people on death row (and we have numerous times) is because DAs and mayors have their jobs on the line to convict someone when something particularly bad happens. The family, media and public want vengeance, and they don't really care if they get the right person. Music festivals get wrecked when something bad happens because the media scares a bunch of parents into thinking their kids are going to get drugged and trampled at concerts.
Its way too easy for politicians to "stop" things for free political points. There's no good reason for them to oppose public opinion, other than ethics, but as I demonstrated, they don't have any.

I recall the story. I stated "no terrorist attacks". That still holds true. And you're right - we should ALL be aware and not expect the TSA to solve everything. Do I really have to reference a missing Malaysian plane to get your opinion on no security screening?
I am glad your family did not take bribes. I am confident that you broke this story to law enforcement or news channels so they could investigate it properly.
And the the media doesn't need to scare anyone in this case: there WAS someone trampled!
