Haven't been able to keep up with NHL free agency or the draft this offseason, as I have been working so I will be able to afford overpriced Bruins tickets in November. The game will be against the Habs, obviously. I don't know about any other teams, but the Bruins are kinda fucked unless we free up cap space.
I'm just nervously awaiting Subban's signing. With the departures of George's and Gionta, on top of the cap space we had before the end of the season, there's no reason the Habs can't match any offer other teams throw at him, and from everything I've heard and read, Marc Bergervin has 0 intention of letting Subban get away. I wouldn't be surprised by a $8M for 8 year deal, and honestly, would be delighted. Anything under 4 years is not gonna do the habs any favours in the future, with the rate the cap ceiling is rising.
Subban will sign Friday or earlier. I say just give him an 8 year 64 million deal and be done with it, but he;d have the biggest cap hit as a Dman in the league, so i dont know.
Looks like it's gonna be a one year deal, but he will still be a Restricted free agent next summer if that happens, so I'm not having a nervous break down yet. Just hope this doesn't sour him on the idea of signing a long term deal.
8 years at $9 million cap hit per season. Little steep for the first few years, but will level out once the cap rises over the coming years. A win for Subban on getting paid, and a win for the habs for locking him down long term. Couldn't be happier!

October is definitely the worst month for hockey. I'm excited as heck that the season started but it was 70 degrees today... The sister and I decided to spend money we don't have on incredibly overpriced tickets for a Bruins v. Kings game in January. Can't wait! It's been two years since I went.
As far as Eastern conference goes, Montreal and Boston are obviously the top with Pittsburgh and Tampa trying and failing in the playoffs. We lost Iginla and Boychuck over the summer but I don't really see that as a problem. We have plenty of young guys. I'm more worried with keeping Sieds, Chara, Lucic healthy. For the West LA, Chicago, and St Louis scare me. Dallas, San Jose, and Anaheim have never really impressed me. It must be my hate for warm climate teams (except LA).
If I was to throw out a guess after day 1, I'd say it's Boston vs. Chicago in the Stanley Cup again. Obviously Boston could be replaced by Montreal and Chicago can be replaced by St. Louis.
Also I just found out another Van Riemsdyk brother is coming to my college (University of NH) to play hockey next season! So excited!

I feel losing Boychuck, and an aging Chara, the Bruins are really going to need Hamilton to have somewhat of a break out year to maintain their position as top contender.
As automatically optimistic I am about the Habs, the only way they are contenders for the cup is if Subbsn proves he's worth the money, Pacoretty hits near 40 goals again, Beaulieu and Tinordi cement them selves as real NHL Dmen, and GALCHENYUK replaces Desharnais as our top line C. All that said, our season goes down the crapper if Price goes down.
I wouldn't count out the Caps either.
As for the West, it's incredibly stacked, and The Bruins are really the only team I see that can compete for a cup, but who knows, this is only night one.
Any interest in getting some peeps into a fantasy hockey league? ESPN has a really great format. Live draft ect. Only need 10 to get it going. Any takers?

If Hamilton doesn't provide what we need from him this year, I think management will send him off before 2015/16 season starts. The fan base, coach, and GM aren't very tolerable of players who don't immediately click within the system (Seguin, Kessel, Horton).
For your Habs, I think Subban will prove he's worth the money and the team will follow him to have a season not as good as last year but still good. The East is weak enough that the Bruins and Habs can cruise and make it into the playoffs with ease. As for your Price comment, I hope for the sake of good competition Price doesn't go down. No one wants to see a team not contend because of injury.
I'm gonna count out the Caps because they just never seem to have it come spring. I think it's an organizational thing.
If I was to put money down I'd put it on the West winning the Cup in seven games.
edit: Horton was actually more of a contractual thing. He wanted more than Boston could give him.
edit 2: As long as the Rangers have Lundqvist, they will contend.
my devils be lookin good right now! also im down for the fantasy hockey thing. i have some friends that would be interested too if we need to fill out the ten members.

I might be a bit biased, but I think many people are underestimating/overlooking the Islanders for this season. They had a busy offseason and addressed some key deficiencies on goaltending and defense. These additions, combined with a deep core of young, talented players (Tavares, Okposo, Nelson, Strome, Hamonic, etc.) could make them a great Dark Horse candidate for this season's playoffs. For the first time in many years, the present (and future) looks very bright for the Islanders.

Really not that surprised with how Boston is playing right now. We are still figuring out our D pairings. I'm not too concerned.
On a side note, I can't believe how many people actually like the Kings up here. I wore my Kings jersey last night and I got so many people stopping me. Bruins country is definitely not as strong as the Patriots or Red Sox fan base.

It's trendy as they keep winning the Stanley Cup. And there's a lot of people who go between LA and Boston. And also they have a minor league team in Manchester.
The NHL schedule has placed an unfair advantage on the Habs vs Bruins this season. Including last nights game, the Bruins play the night before they play the Habs, while the Habs are off the night before each game
Really sucks the enjoyment of beating the Bruins when they can easily claim fatigue as an excuse all season.

The only time teams should play back to back nights are
A) During lockout/shortened seasons B) When they are playing the same opponent both games
This isn't baseball. There is plenty of space to stretch out the schedule.

the Bruins play back to back nights 18 times this season. The habs, 10. Peter Chiarelli musta pissed in someone's cornflakes this off season....
