I know there's been a litany of debate over whether EPs count for AOTM, but what about "mini-albums"?? Earlier today Thundercat announced he's dropping a "mini-album" co-produced by Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington on Monday (6/22). (link)

5/22 was last month.

Payola is a lot better than I expected. Definitely not album of the month though. No Joy's album is pretty awesome and I think most fans of shoegaze would enjoy
I would really love it if Savages would put a release date on their next album so I'd have my album of that month and/or the year settled already. It'd make everything else so much easier.
The new Kacey Musgraves, on the other hand, is tremendous. So are the new Desaparecidos and High on Fire albums. May and June of 2015 alone have produced more great records than all of 2014.
Kacey was fantastic at Bonnaroo. One of the big surprises for me.
I haven't really listened to much this month with the haze of preparation for Bonnaroo and the haze that always follows events such as 'Roo, so I'm chilling between Jamie xx and Bully right now. I'm pretty happy about it.
I thought Jamie XX's album was a little "ordinary"/"basic" the first few times I tried it. I think it's because I'm not a big EDM fan. It has really grown on me this week, though, and I am starting to appreciate it more. I like Bully, Florence and the Machine, and Jenny Hval's albums too, so far.

Jamie xx has been in heavy rotation for me. That Vince Staples is a powerful album, but I've only listened to it once so far. I may get motivated to vote this month. I've listened to more new releases in June than in recent months.

...it's not EDM.
Unless, to you, all music made which incorporates sounds produced through laptops and samplers and drum machines and synthesizers is "EDM," in which case you're the literal worst.
His music is actually a mixture of ambient/electronica/edm. I have heard him refer to his own music as a slow-tempo EDM style of music when he was in The XX.

Please stop.
I think some people let bands like Deadmau5 and Bassnectar give EDM a bad name... EDM is an umbrella term for a lot of types of electronic/ambient/house/etc music. It's just a general term.
Jamie XX topped the charts under... Electronic/Dance.

It's a stupid term. EDM is just as bad as Electronica, which is what Americans used to refer to all electronic music back in the 90s. Like it or not, "EDM" is generally and most acceptably used to colloquially refer to crowd-pleasing, big-room dance tracks. If you had just said "electronic music" in place of EDM, I wouldn't have given a shit. But it's a crap term and people need to stop using it. It's lazy shorthand and it sucks.
By the way, some of the other artists who have topped the charts in the "Electronic/Dance" category? Lady Gaga, Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, MIA, Gorillaz, LMFAO, Madonna, the Postal Service.
I'm not a huge EDM fan, but I really liked Bjork's last album, you guys.
Eh, Bjork's okay, but if I'm in the mood for EDM I'd rather listen to Gorillaz.

So you are okay with "electronic music"... but not "electronic dance music"... or "electronica"? I will officially retract my EDM usage and avoid all instances of the word "electronic" or "dance" and just say "ambient".
I have a feeling Jamie XX would roll his eyes at this conversation. Lol
music categorization just cant handle a movement with 100 subgenres.
Drum and Bass Tech Step Liquid Funk Jazz Step Intelligent Drum and Bass House Tech House Micro House Fidget Breaks Intelligent Breaks Nu Skool Breaks Electro House Big Room Dutch House Funky House Chicago House Tech House Techno (the Genre, no EDM before it was Electronica) ...
.... ...
so the music industry salivates when you give something one name that people can misuse
For the record, I think putting the Jaime XX album in one genre is rather hard because the album has a few genres and sub genres on it. To me it's a dance record. It surely isnt EDM, and its not electro (AT ALL), most of Jaime's sets are rare groove to me. The record (In Colour) itself to me, echos that eclectic mix, with jazz, R&B, funk, and house elements.
I'm not gonna vote for it because this month is so damn strong, it might not even be in top 3 for me, but Ryn Weaver's LP "The Fool" is really great. Translated amazingly well live, too.

giving everything everything - get to heaven a listen right now. halfway through I am digging it. sounds kinda like TVotR meets Foals. It's 17 tracks though, I can see it getting a bit tedious. I doubt it will be my vote, but it has been a pleasant surprise this month.
