Deerhunter - meh Protomartyr - post-punk just isn't for me. I never loved Joy Division anyway. Deafheaven - I'm sure its great. But the vocals on Sunbather didn't work for me and that's probably not gonna change. FUZZ - Holy shit. 30 minutes in and it kicks ass.
Still need to listen to Joanna Newsom, but Fuzz is legit. First time I've actually kept up with new stuff in months. Edit: Oh yeah, Neon Indian is really good too. First album of his I've been impressed by.
I hated the vocals on Sunbather, but enjoyed this album a lot. I still think vocals like that are gimmicky, but I'm learning to deal. The instrumentation is just outstanding.
Jesus christ himself could've released an album this month and it wouldn't be as good as New Bermuda
he did, and it is. He goes by Ty these days.
As much as I agree with you both that Fuzz II is a superior album and Ty is pretty damn amazing, you have to remember that he is playing drums on the album, and this guy is responsible for all those sweet, sweet riffs.
I think I'm finally starting to get Deerhunter or is this one just better? [/quote]
Yes, in many ways, it is better. There is more detail in this album than anything they have ever done. However, they are there are losing a lot of fans on this one. They are upset that Deerhunter has gone too pop. But that has already happened with Halycon Digest. And then they unleashed Monomania as their next release, which is was raw as hell. Here's the thing about being a Deerhunter fan...You have to accept that they are going to change from album to album. It can be jarring, but trust that they create excellent songs. Admittedly, I thought Fading Frontier was lackluster at first (It also took me years to truly L.O.V.E. Halcyon). Then I noticed that they re-focused all of their (mostly) usual noise into another creativity below the surface. The real criticism of Fading Frontier is not how it sounds, but that we need more of it. It's so damn short!
I really like the first half of Fading Frontier, but it loses me in the second half. Starting with Leather and Wood.
I agree that the front half is stronger. Leather and Wood sounds more like an Atlas Sound track without much depth to it. Snakeskin is fantastic, though. And the final two songs are both really enjoyable.
I'm going to give mine early this week since I can't see anything knocking this one out of first spot. The songwriting on this album (especially the second half with tracks like "The Things I Say", "A Pin-Light Bent", and "Time, As a Symptom") is superb and some of the best writing I've seen this year on any album outside of Sufjan Stevens. I love that she isn't afraid to experiment with her voice, too. She reminds me a lot of Bjork. This is definitely her best album since Milk-Eyed Mender.

Deerhunter was probably my #2.
Deerhunter is good. Neon Indian is fun. Fuzz put out a genuinely impressive piece of work.
But there's no way Joanna isn't winning this month for me. The paragraph above that I've quoted summarizes my feelings on the album quite well - nothing else but Sufjan has impacted me this much amongst the 2015 releases.

Have you listened to Majical Cloudz (or however it's misspelled)? I wouldn't expect it to change your vote, but I think you might like it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just trying to get this straight, but since releases are Fridays, isn't the deadline technically not until 6 November?
I hope so, because I'll need all that time and more to keep listening to All Them Witches, !!!, Deafheaven, and Fuzz to try and come up with a winner between those 4. After my most recent listen of !!!, it's suddenly back in contention.

You're correct. edit: Thank God because I am going to need the time. Right now it is a toss up between The Great Tyrant, Deafheaven, Joanna Newsom, Protomartyr, Fuzz & Hey Colossus with The Great Tyrant being the slight favorite. And I still a few that I still want to hear before I make my vote.

Excellent thanks guys. I'm with you on this one Rothric. I was in the fit of decision making, but then I've been distracted with Stereogum’s 50 Best New Bands Of 2015 and now I can't focus. I'm discovering some solid new music, though, just nothing in anyway related to the nature of this thread.
