Biography: Robert Plant's newest musical project after recent outings such as Band of Joy and his collaboration with Alison Krauss (both of which have also been at Roo). The Sensational Space Shifters integrates a number of West African instruments into the bands sound. These include: the bendir (Moroccan frame drum), the djembe, the akonting (the ancestor of the modern banjo), the tehardant (a Malian string instrument), the kologo (simiar to the akonting and banjo), and the riti, a traditional African fiddle.
Genre: Folk Rock, Worldbeat
Suggested Listening I'd look into listening to some of the tracks from the bands recent album.Lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar
He plays this song quite a bit:
This one too:
This is a good full concert recording, it's got some pretty good audio quality (for Youtube at least):
Physical Reaction/Live Show Expect to hear a few tracks (not more than 2 or 3) from the Lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar album. Expect a few other covers and a healthy dose of Zeppelin tunes. The Zeppelin songs will be a lot slower/more mellow than the studio originals. The music will pick up a bit at times, but will stay a bit more on the slower side. If you're cool with that going in, you'll have a great time
Interesting Facts Here's Robert Plant and Jimmy Fallon doing some Doo-Wop
Personal Notes I'm personally pretty excited to see Robert Plant, he's in my top 10 for this year. Plant has already been confiremed for Sunday, so I see this as the perfect band to unwind and close out the weekend with.
Anyway, it might be worth noting if anyone is planning on getting the Led out, that Plant has cancelled his last two shows (Sunday in Toronto and tonight in Detroit) due to illness. If they have to replace him last minute I think it's fair to assume Jack Johnson is ready and waiting.
