Hell yea I did. I was at work, had access to a handy computer & got paid to do it. Didn't take much time. IMO, 'Kids' is not just MY favorite MGMT song. It is/was the favorite song of a shizzton of people who were there. You, I guess, were not. That video that was posted up above. It's a nice song, but not near as good as 'Kids'.
The weird thing to me is: Why wouldn't you want to play that song?! It's not like it's a 'We Built This City' kind of song. It's a killer song & people love to hear it. People that paid alot of money to hear you.
You paid a lot of money to hear one specific song? get outta here, dude. You dont get to pick their setlist, you dont know if there was a reason they didnt play it. I find it hard to believe the person who runs the fest admitted to being 'duped' over this, i imagine he couldnt care less. Its one thing to be bummed you missed a song you like but it takes a special kind of asshole to actively complain and write an email about it to a higher up. They dont care if you prefer one song to another, thats as subjective as it gets.
Look up Father John Mistys XPN Fest set from this summer and then tell me if you still felt MGMT 'duped' people who paid a lot of money.
ne215, I think the reason they don't like to play it is that the main person or persons in the band feel it points out that they haven't had as good a song as that since when they recorded it. Makes them feel bad. The dude that ran the festival (has since sold it) is/was concerned about people leaving fest with a bad taste in their mouth. Wants people to return. He had no idea that they didn't like to play that song. He felt is was up to them, but had expected them to play it (as we was not that up on MGMT lore).
We'll just have to disagree here about how I and you view them.
Glad I freaked you out, man! My story is related only to MGMT. I don't care if some other band that has alot of fine songs doesn't play one or three of them. No problem at all. Here you have to understand that for me, just about their only really good song is 'Kids'. That goes for alot of other people too. Maybe you're rich or something, but I paid a good chunk of change to be there, bought alot of beer/food & then this Headliner wusses out on doing (again, my opinion) their by far best song that all the casual fans would have loved to have heard.
When you play a fest, you are playing to alot of casual fans who are in no way familiar with your music. You're the Headliner & they're going to stay to see you. To me, it is just common courtesy to play a piece of music that they could relate to and/or have probably heard & liked.
I'm guessing all the jerkwad artists appreciate your point of view. Would also like to point out they aren't doing this as a philanthropy. They got paid a good chunk of change to get up there for 1.5 hours and entertain. If it was free, they can play whatever the heck they want to.
They are creative human beings, though. Shouldn't they be able to play what they want? They're not singing puppets up there.
Agree they are not robots. I just don't see why they couldn't play a 4 minute song that everybody loves. Is it that hard for a paid act to do that? Does it hurt them so much?

we ended up not going last year but kick myself for it cause dug some stuff on that lineup. for sure want to make it happen this year since its so close and only a bill for fest/camp/float.
So there is no American festival venue you consider equal to, or would prefer to, The Hangout?
I would say there are multiple American fests in more beautiful venues than Gulf Shores, AL. But that's just me?
Take the beach away & VoodooFest has a nicer venue. But no beach & when you have a great beach, sitting on it, making a nice sand couch, and enjoying great music (and counting the number of 'hits' they play), it's really, really nice. IMO. Especially around dusk.
lol so who were those sweet bands that make all the other fests so good again and not hangout?
and dont list all the ppl who played 2015/16. but you wont
que question response.
Wait for Friday when Jazz Fest drops. It will aeroplane bomb almost all other festivals on raw talent alone. There will also be bullshit, but I'm not going watch some act like The Bon Jovi's.
To the broader question at Bonnaroo, and like me you've already seen most of it or will be at various fests anyway. My would want to see at Roo list (without lower card research cause I ain't going): U2, RHCP, Chance, Cage, Big G, UM, Portugal, Superjam, Royal Blood, Car Seat, Snails, illenium, Flatbush Zombies, badbadnotgood, G Jones, Pres Hall, Stick Figure, Greensky, Herobust, Rainbow Kitten, San Holo, Rezz, Ganja White Night, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Kaiydo, Turkuaz. That's not worth the Roo hassle or the cost of VIP, but if it was local I'd go.

totally agree. jazz fest does have lots of talent but just not the fest for me.
my bonnaroo list would be similar but have more lazers. i was realy considering going to roo (mostly just wanted to see PtM/glass animals/future islands again)but then middlelands just shit on all those plans. its too close. all the untz is there from roo and they nabbed flatbush, danny brown, jurassic 5, phantogram, crystal castles, & bonobo. HOLD THE DOOR! if a big grizmatik set jumps off ima die.

Be more subjective. also I think it's HILARIOUS that you think they don't play it bcuz they 'feel bad they haven't written a better song since'. It has nothing to do with how anyone views MGMT (I literally only like Electric Feel) and more about how entitled you feel.
Wow that sucker that books Bunbury must feel like a grade-A doofus seeing these guys totally disrespect him and play Kids at Glastonbury but not his festival. He should have listened to paulinky. That guy gets it.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I really want to do middlelands. I live in Pearland so I'd have to camp. I just imagine that camping experience to be miserable.
