Major Lazer - Major Lazer is an American electronic music trio composed of record producer Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire. It was founded by Diplo and Switch, but Switch left in 2011. Its music spans numerous genres, mixing reggae with dancehall, reggaeton, house, and moombahton. Major Lazer has released three full-length albums: Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do in 2009, Free the Universe in 2013, and Peace is the Mission in 2015. It also released an EP entitled Apocalypse Soon in March 2014, which featured vocal contributions from Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul. Major Lazer has also produced Reincarnated, the debut reggae album by Snoop Dogg under his "Snoop Lion" persona. On February 8, 2015, during the Grammy Award ceremony, Diplo revealed details of the third Major Lazer album. He confirmed that the album would incorporate artists such as Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding and Pusha T, and would be titled Peace is the Mission. Following the success of singles "Cold Water" and "Believer," Major Lazer released their third single from Music is the Weapon, titled "Run Up". It features Canadian musician PartyNextDoor, and rapper Nicki Minaj, serving as a follow-up to the tropical, laid-back sound of "Cold Water". Music is the Weapon is expected to be released in 2017.
Bob Moses - Bob Moses is a Canadian electronic duo, originally from Vancouver, British Columbia. The band consists of Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. Their song "Tearing Me Up" won a Grammy Award for best remixed recording, non-classical for a version produced by Andre Allen Anjos, who performs under the pseudonym RAC.Howie and Vallance attended the same Vancouver middle school and high school in Vancouver, but were merely acquaintances, despite enjoying similar tastes in music. They had both dabbled into the sounds of California punk, Northwest grunge, and Minimalist electronic but never together. After high school Vallance moved to New York City where he worked for a record engineering company for Dutch artist, Matthew Dekay on Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream imprint. He originally started his career making trance and progressive house music, with early success at the age of 18 with releases on the likes of Ultra Records and remixes for Sia and her record "Buttons" alongside Chris Lake and Markus Schulz. After working for Dekay, Vallance began working on writing and engineering for Get Physical's cofounder and one-half of M.A.N.D.Y., Philipp Jung. Howie continued singing and after a year of attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, he also moved to New York. He was originally in the rock band Coalition, known for their song "Snowboarding". After a year, Vallance and Howie reunited in a Lowe's hardware store parking lot. Surprised to see each other in a different country, they decided to spend time together. They started working on music in Howie's apartment. Soon after they shared a flat together before working on music for the first time as a duo. The duo helped write a vocal hook for one of the songs that Jung was working on. The band experimented with different sounds, since Howie had a background in rock music and Vallance in trance music, they began to experiment and combine the electronic and alternative sounds together.
The Facebook post I received yesterday had folks commenting about bailing left and right. Two GA tickets for $240. VIP two for ones. Condos across the street opening up with folks canceling. To be honest, that one was beside the Boom Boom tent.
I like the Lazer show and will go see Bob Moses if the folks with the acoustics aren't up. Bob Moses has a David Gilmour voice. Kind of haunting in a cool way.

Major Lazer is a cesspool of b.s. Everyone knows Diplo plays the crowd control thing. But the Ultra set was as dismal as EDM gets this side of Marshmello.
Hands up! Everybody Get Low! Let me see those middle fingers! Put up your peace signs! Where my trap queens at? etc.
I like Jillionaire enough, and I don't even completely hate Diplo, but Major Lazer is weak sauce.
As for Bob Moses, I've seen them twice. The first time was as a guest of the inimitable Donald Phi Trump at a Voodoo pre-Party in 2015. Show was pretty cool. Second time was last year at Voodoo when they came out as Guns and Moses. It was nice of them to recognize the traditions of some bands dressing up to play Voodoo since so much of the crowd dresses up as well. Show was pretty cool. When live, they usually have at least an extra drummer on stage with them.
2024: The Floozies, Phyphr, Disco Biscuits, Cimafunk, WSMFP, The Killers, Cory Wong, Dumpstaphunk, Bomba Estereo, Molly & Golden Hwy, Big Freedia, Payton/Nth Power, A.P&TFN
djjazzyjoe - I don't know if it will sell out and not sure they tell the truth about sell outs. A lot of times some rich corp buys them up for PR. I am going. There will be a lot of folks on the beach watching a lot of music and having a great time. Some of the musicians I'm interested in, others not so much. But, hey, won't be the first time I got stoned and discovered a new favorite musician.
By my count of 29 days, I have 82 total performers for Hangout, including pre-party. Anybody come up with a different number? We have highlighted 40, 39 if you take Hunna out. This leaves 43 to go. I have 17 days til I shut the beast down and stroll southbound. If I leave anybody's favorite out, please feel free to close out the highlighting and I'll catch up with you on the beach.
If anybody winds up with an extra room/parking pass within walking distance, or knows someone bailing on their condo, let me know.
Looking forward to the schedule so I can see the conflicts. Normally, they have an announcement about who is playing the AXS stage before releasing the schedule.

Same here, always something. Bob Moses later on Mermaid or Axs stage would throw a definite conflict into my plans
Hangout should have a contest to name the stages. I vote for the Letting Go/Palladia/XBOX/AXS/whatever stage to be called the "Trapped Between the Nasty Food and Expensive Beer" stage or "Half Gravel/Half Turf" stage. The Boom Boom Tent and Main Stage seem pretty self explanatory. The Restaurant Stage should be "The Hangout Stage". The BMI Stage could be the "Hotter Than Hell" stage. The Second Main Stage should be the "Not Good Enough to be On the Main" stage.

Really wish GV would bring the Sahara tent style from Coachella and replace Hangouts Boom Boom tent. Not sure if its a footprint thing, but it needs an upgrade

If they did this, it's ineveitable that a stage would be named "Stagey McStageface"

So I'm extremely tempted to try and book a place at either San Carlos or Seawind for the usual weekend next year. They mostly have free cancellation but in the rental agreements they flat out say that can change the rates without notice if they want. It's the same weekend every year and the prices on these places double what they're showing right now usually. Anyone have experience with this in past years? Booking this far in advance through VRBO?

Last year we rebooked our same condo Sunday of the fest for 2017, but got a email a few months lasted saying the rate wasn't correct and it was changed to what we paid in 2016.
Yeah see idk if it's even worth it then. I'd like to use one of the nicer ones like SC or SW but the rates got out of hand in 2016 which is why we went the cheaper route with Ocean Reef. The way the prices jumped we'd need to squeeze minimum 10 people into one of those units. We've done that in the past but that gets harder to do every year.

yea i love ocean reef. only knock on it is no hot tub but meh i know the corner units are three story which makes it a bit easier to spread folks out. i know last year we had 10 in there.
Yeah Ocean Reef was fine but it's nowhere near as nice as the ones on the east side of the fest. That's reflected in the price obviously.
Only time I'm in there is to close my eyes so that's cool for me. Plus I hate all the other condos beach access. You know, leave room, get on elevator, go down 10 floors, coded gate, through pool area, more gates, long walk to water.
At ocean reef I just open back door, walk down personal staircase off deck, fin

I actually tried to book year 3 of Regatta earlier today...price increase of $150/night! I'm suppose to talk to the owner tomorrow to see what we can work out. I'm pretty spoiled at this point with where I've been able to stay(Seawind, San Carlos, IWE and Regatta) and at what cost so the condo may be the deal breaker going forward.
Another really good festival with excellent lineup. It is good to see at least 5-6 festivals with a variety of genres represented. A lot of Hangout cross over.
I think I was paying like $75 a night for a two bedroom IWE in 2010, Now it is like $500 a night for peak and $300 a night before and after. I had a pretty sweet deal at San Carlos, but like solidrock, hard to pay those rates when I can stay at my son's house and go to Pilgramage or drive over to the Farm for nothing.

I'd rather have Courtney Barnett take up both slots.
Charli XCX is incredibly boring w limited vocal talent. Essentially just a DJ playing tracks w her running around. Could compare her to Grimes except Grimes produces all her own music, has dancers and will play during her show.
