As someone who loves to be cynical, the lineup isn't going to be as bad as last year. The headliners show that already.
I had to miss last year and it was one of the only years the festival has had a top 3 that I really would enjoy.
If it's U2/RHCP/The Weeknd then I'm pretty disappointed. I know all 3 are positive and have a big following but I don't really know the Weeknd, don't really care for RHCP, and U2 would only be a bucket-list type of show for me.
See, I thought it was good when I first looked at it last year, but now when I look back at it, I just kind of shrug when I read the top of the poster.

Darkhorse #AllStar
There are definitely no clear allstars this year. Probably has something to do with how early we learned the headliners. Although Christopher Shawn made a pretty good case for himself in a relatively short amount of time
As someone who loves to be cynical, the lineup isn't going to be as bad as last year. The headliners show that already. I was looking at some past lineups tonight, and I expect something around what 2013 put out. There will be more EDM obviously, but otherwise I would use that as the barometer.
2013 was probably Roo's best year ever imo. There is no way that is a realistic barometer. If it is, count me in.

Really? Maybe this is my age and lack of Roo experience showing, but minus Macca, when I compare 2013 to 2014, 2014 seems more loaded. That's only off a glance at both but that's an interesting point.

2013 and 2014 were probably the most stacked line-ups Roo has had and maybe will ever have.
Then probably 2008, 2009 and 2012.
If we had anywhere near ANY of those 4 line-ups, I'd be thrilled. But my expectations aren't very high at the moment.

Out of the years I've been, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2016 I would have to say 2008 was the best as far as lineup and crowd.

1. Bottom half of the lineup (after act 55)
2013: Swans, Death Grips, Four Tet, Action Bronson, Killer Mike, Big Krit, Lee Fields, Two Gallants, Calexico, Japandroids, Django Django, Polyphonic Spree, Ariel Pink, Diiv, Jason Isbell, Jeff the Brotherhood, Matthew E White, Kyng, Mac Demarco, The Revivalists, White Lung
2014: Darkside, Pusha T, First Aid Kit, Ty Segall, Cloud Nothings, White Denim, Deafheaven, St. Paul, Orwells, Animals as Leaders, Black Pistol Fire, Bully
A solid ten extra acts I wanted to see.
2. I think 2014 was the year Bonnaroo started to become less weird and all over the place... started to lose its identity a bit and begin looking like other festivals. It was still interesting, but just less so than in previous years. Tons of great acts, but most were acts you wouldn't be surprised to see at most music festivals... together.
2014 did have Lionel, Elton, Kanye, Lauren Hill, Ice Cube... Not much risk taking. 2013 was the last of the years where, when and outsider asked you who would be at Roo, you would respond like "holy shit I can see McCartney, Petty, Bjork, R Kelly, Wu Tang, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, Daniel Tosh, Weird Al Yankovich, Bob Saget all in the same weekend... before even continuing with the meat of the lineup that hardcore music fans would appreciate.
Comedy dropped off after 2013 name-wise, and Superjams took a turn for the worse. The Jim James and Wu-tang superjams were both miles better than anything that has happened since.
While I do agree that 2014 is a very close second, and compares well when strictly looking at quality of acts, I think it had a touch less of that Bonnaroo randomness to the lineup that the festival used to be know for.
It's a bit hard to tell in this picture but the crystal decanters of Louis XIII strewn about are a yearly dead giveaway. My son tripped over several last year as we gathered the strays and put them into the Clean Vibes / Waterford recycling bins that are next to the truffle stations.
