MTV Live premiered Wider Horizons which is a late 2015 production and is kind of a must see. It's a very intimate window shot in his personal world and touches on eras of his entire career. There is some outrageous old footage and some recordings he pulls up. Just a fn 5 out of 5 personal account.
Lucky enough, they are following this up with Remember that Night? I got 2 hours of that and may watch Pompei after that on YouTube for good measure. Damn. It's a hero kind of night.
What did you think? I was pretty floored. I finally got to see David in 1994 for Division Bell tour. He had long been on my list of rock heroes I needed to see live. Just listening to him discuss all those times from Jokers Wild to early inspiration from One-Two-Three-O'clock-Four-O'Clock Rock (Bill Hailey & Comets I think - though I hate the 50's) and Elvis being early influences. Then Jokers Wild being inspired by all of them going into a room at the music store to listen to the newest Beatles release and then going out to play in their 5 piece (where everyone sang) and playing "this brand new Beatle's tune) in the best they could recreate after one or two listens - including all the errors in music and lyrics. Then his wife talking about how she writes all the lyrics by walking through fields with her headphones on. Then his kids and step-kid and how he approaches life as a dad. Also all the discussions about the various phases of Pink Floyd especially the part where they played 5 gigs as a 5 piece and then one day they just decided not to pick up Syd (and that was that). Also the death of Rick Wright. Damn, that was great. I know they had a few replays over the weekend, so for anyone who missed it, you can probably find it either On Demand or on YouTube.
We ended up watching the awesome Royal Albert Hall set with Crosby & Nash (nice 3 way harmonizing cover of Find the Cost of Freedom) and then Bowie coming out singing Arnold Lane as well. Awesome. After that was Director's Cut of Pink Floyd in Pompeii. There was one point where the two TV's synched up. One was on the replay of Wider Horizons since I didn't have that remote, and the exact clip from Pompeii was on both TV's only about 1/4 second off. Haha.
This is the setlist from David Gilmour's return to Pompeii concert from last night. Supposedly there is a video in the link, but it's blocked at work, so I can't verify.
