what's the criteria when you make it? other than size/popularity. or is that all?
Trying to put most of the bigger bands on the Peachtree stage and keep it full for most of the time, because it can fit a lot more people than the 2nd stage can. Top 3-4 from each day will all go on the Peachtree stage, and from there just go with whatever makes the most sense and the bottom 2 lines from each day will go on the tiny-ass stage (thinking of having Preoccupations/The Record Company/Fruit Bats headlining that stage each night).
I really hate to do this but that means I'm going to have The Shins vs. Fruit Bats. Also hate that I'm probably going to have to do Nick Murphy vs. Moon Taxi.
Like on one hand, Friday looks like the best festival day for me this year. But I also know I'm going to be running from stage to stage the entire time. Thankfully Shaky Knees (usually) isn't that bad as far as crowds go. I'll be okay with going from Pixies to dancing towards the back of LCD Soundsystem if that's what it comes to.
Kind of hate having Dr. Dog overlapping Shovels & Rope, also don't like Fruit Bats overlapping the Shins.
Whitney and Pond overlapping with Cloud Nothings really sucks and the PUP and Modern Baseball conflict, but this looks pretty realistic. I hope Ryan Adams > Shins > Phoenix is actually a possibility because I wanna see them all.

I'll move some thing around later because I didn't really think about not overlapping PUP and Modern Baseball.

Obviously Fri and Sun are loaded but from past festival experience the fact that i can hopefully see 5 real solid bands on Saturday back to back is a pretty good day still, despite the fact that i would have traded a few of them for the conflicts im sure i will have Fri and Sun

This would be fantastic but realistically you could probably switch Portugal. the Man and Pixies. That wouldn't be my preference but that will probably be what will happen. But having Modern Baseball, Car Seat Headrest, and The Growlers all back to back on the same stage would work perfectly for me.
Saturday is nice because I wouldn't have to show up until 7:00pm.
Sunday is fine but having Cloud Nothings play so early would kill any energy that show could have. We'd all be too exhausted to mosh.

I thought about switching Portugal and Pixies, but I don't know if that stage would be big enough to fit Pixies, but at the same time I also don't want to have Portugal vs. Cage like I do now because they probably have a lot of fan overlap. Could put them all on the same stage but that'd put Portugal on at 4:45.
Do we know for sure it's only going to be 3 stages? As far as late nights, I'm still counting on Mutemath after my interaction with them on twitter. Lately I'm the only one in my group that wants to do late nights, but my wife already said she would do it if Sylvan Esso or Warpaint have one and she would do Mutemath.

Maybe Pixies can go where Cage is (main stage pre headlining), Cage could go where Portugal is (second stage closer), and you could move Portugal to where Pixies are (6:15-7:15). You might have the same problem where Cage might be too big for the second stage, but maybe the overlap with Pixies would divide the crowd a little bit?

I was only planning on going the day that LCD plays, so this worked out pretty spectacularly. Only thing I'm bummed about missing is Pond, so hoping that they get an after show.
Hoping for Portugal > Pixies > LCD on the main stage to end the day, and hope I can see all of Car Seat Headrest, Temples, Preoccupations, Fidlar, Twin Peaks, and Cymbals Eat Guitars before that. No way that all falls into place, but it should be a great day regardless.

What I'm struggling with is how crowds are gonna be when the main stage is dead... Like everyone at the second and third stage doesn't seem functional if crowds are the same.

ugh. just way too many conflicts. no matter how many different combinations and layouts are typed out, they way overbooked Friday it's gonna be rough. leaving sets early, missing the beginning of sets, skipping an act altogether. gotta hope some late night shows alleviate the schedule.

also, not enough people are talking about Lewis Del Mar. incredible up and coming act, if you like Temples, Pond, or Portugal. the Man, check them out on Saturday. plans fell through for Hangout Fest, so I'll definitely be catching them at Shaky

I'll put them on the list of things to check out. I honestly don't know anything about them aside from what you just posted.

They are really good. All of those mixed with Cage the Elephant and you got the right idea. I've really enjoyed.
I never really understand when people say they're skipping half of a day of a fest they've already paid for. I am always up for full days at a fest. If there's time where I don't care much for the acts, that's when I take a step back, grab some food and chill out somewhere for a bit.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

This makes me very happy to be going to two fests with you this year. Now, what's your feeling on late night shows?

For me it's a matter of self-preservation. Three days in a row of any all-day activity is going to wear me out even if I'm trying to take it easy. If there are hours upon hours at the beginning of a festival day where nothing seems interesting to me then I'm not going to go. I'll enjoy the other days more if I'm well-rested.
Specific to Shaky Knees I'll probably come in late on Saturday because most of the bands I do know that day I actively dislike. To me there's nothing worse than standing at a fest trying to enjoy something mediocre just for the sake of "being at a festival." I still need to do a lot of research though before I can make that kind of call.

I guess I'm lucky because every fest I've been to there's always bands I want to see. Probably too many, because I want to go early, stay all day and do a late night if possible. Yea, I get tired, but it's fun,it's my favorite thing to do. I can rest later.

I respect your approach but I'm also not going to do it haha.
