My May winner: Pond - The Weather Favorite tracks: "Sweep Me Off My Feet" - "Paint Me Silver" - "Edge of the World Pt. 1" - "Weather"
It was extremely close for my top spot between Pond, Nick Hakim, and Perfume Genius. Nick Hakim is likely to end up being played more by the end of the year because a lot of tracks have made it into my candlelit two person bedroom "dance" party playlist, but Pond is the overall winner. It has the very obvious influence of sounding much like a Tame Impala album, but also has tracks that could easily have come from MGMT, King Gizzard, or even Passion Pit. Nick Hakim is soulful psychedelic fun and completely my brand of sexy music. And Perfume Genius has some of the best tracks of the month but overall just barely feel short. Mac Demarco is one of my favorite artists and came out with a quality LP that does at times sound a little too much like everything else he has ever done. And I'm not a convert of !!!. That album is a dance party.
2. Nick Hakim - Green Twins - "Needy Bees" - "Green Twins" - "Miss Chew" - "JP" - "Rollerskates" 3. Perfume Genius - No Shape - "Otherside" - "Slip Away" - "Sides - ft. Weyes Blood" - "Die 4 U" 4. Mac Demarco - This Old Dog - "Old Dog" - "My Old Man" - "For the First Time" - "Moonlight on the River" 5. !!! - Shake the Shudder - "The One 2" - "What r u up 2Day?" 6. Juana Molina - Halo - "Paraguaya" - "A00 B01" 7. Slowdive - Slowdive - "Slomo" 8. Land of Talk - Life After Youth - "Yes You Were" - "Loving" 9. Aldous Harding - Party - "Party" 10. Do Make Say Think - Stubborn Persistent Illusions - "Horripilation"
Other albums of note: Sinjin Hawke'sFirst Opus - It's a full length album of variation of Kanye's track "Wolves" Jlin'sBlack Origami - Some of this album is great, but I haven't been able to stand listening to it from beginning to end without giving myself a break. It's just too much. PWR BTTM's Pageant - I really liked this album when it existed. It might've made the top ten if I still had a way to listen to it. Fucking weird.
Didn't expect this album to take my AotM nod, but something about it just makes me feel good when I listen to it. It's really grown on me.
Jlin is great, but like others mentioned, I prefer it in bursts instead of the full album.
!!! are favs of mine, but I feel this album fell a little flat for them knowing what they're capable of. I enjoy the female vocalist they use, but I felt they relied too much on her instead of Nic Offer. Nic's just all around goofy nature is one of the things that draws me to !!!, and felt like he was a guest on this album.
Didn't get a chance to listen to Nick Hakim yet.
Pond didn't do much for me either. There was one or songs that I really enjoyed, but the rest bored me. Will need to revisit it in a few months.
HM: Slowdive | 'Slowdive'. Honestly surprised this is isn't my album of the month, as Slowdive are one of my favorite bands. It's a great album no doubt, but I haven't yet connected with it the way I thought I would.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
5 - (Sandy) Alex G, Slowdive 4 - Jlin, Perfume Genius 3 - Aldous Harding 2 - Natalia LaFourcade 1 - Chris Stapleton, Do Make Say Think, Heliocentrics, Juana Molina, Mac DeMarco, Mountain Goats, Nick Hakim

If voting is still open..
I was mostly listening to Roo playlists this past month, didn't get around to a lot of new releases but I did bump this album a bit so I'm gonna go with Mac My only HMs are both EPs haha, Nick Murphy & Hundred Waters.
June has so many releases I'm already loving or highly anticipating!
There were some awesome albums released the first week of June: Mutoid Man, Spectre Folk, Benjamin Booker, Elder, and Alt-J are already making for a tough decision at the end of the month.
alt j was super boring. i haven't and still don't get it. their tickets are also the most expensive to be on sale at the venue they are playing in Houston (alt-J > Morrissey > Pet Shop Boys > Pixies), which I would imagine would be upsetting if you were a fan even.
*benjamin booker was rad though. beach fossils might be my front runner atm.

That's fair. I definitely like the other albums I listed a bit better at this point, but Alt-J was interesting enough that I'll take another couple of listens to it. I would not be willing to pay more for them than any of Pet Shop Boys, Pixies, or Morrissey, though. That's crazy.

Echoing those earlier praising Benjamin Booker while also tossing in a nice plug for Omar Souleyman's new record. It's a bit samey throughout but definitely worth a listen, if only because I don't know of any other artists he sounds like
Spectre Folk and Beach Fossils have been ruling my week this far. If the new Kevin Morby is "out there", I'd suggest that. Plus, how have you not listened to Planetarium yet?

Good. That's on the bus list as well.
I've had two toddlers with twin ear infections for a week now. The interwebz eludes me as of late.
Yeah, I actually did kinda forget about it since I have it on iTunes instead of spotify so I appreciate the reminder, it's really damn good. Slightly related, they just released this video, the live Planetarium shows are going to be so good!
