I was more butthurt by the No I.D. disrespect tbh
I like No. I.D. The beats were mostly solid. But overall the production was just... off. It felt too lackadaisical. Plus it was mixed weird and I think some of the samples were a bit bland.
Maybe I was listening to a bad rip or something. I'll wait till it drops on Spotify or something before I talk any more shit on it.
I'm a little surprised Lorde is getting so much love
I haven't listened to it yet, but I assumed with a stacked month like this it would be more spread out in votes.
I liked Pure Heroine as much as the next guy but holy crap do I love Melodrama. I did not expect to like this album as much as I do but here we are.
I could get into the nitty gritty if you want me to but I think at the end of the day Lorde made a thoughtful, sincere, infectiously fun pop album and that's really, really hard to vote against.
FWIW other faves this month are Kevin Morby, Planetarium, Algiers, Chastity Belt, and Big Theif.

Well said. Thought it was a decent month all around but melodrama really shined the brightest imo.
so many votes with still a week before voting ends
The only thing I think that I missed was the new JG Thirwell album. Pretty sure that isn't gonna change my vote for the month though but, hey, you never know.
Just re-listened to Lorde after seeing all your votes and it still won't be my vote. Production is pretty solid but can get boring at times. There are good songs but I find myself not really taking her lyrics seriously because she's 19, which is not necessarily me saying they're bad lyrics. I enjoy it but I'm not moved by any of it

Did the same thing after all those votes and wanted to make sure if I'm missing anything. There are a couple of songs I really liked but that's it.

The love for Jay's new album confuses me. I mean, it's way better than I'd expect from a 47 year old rapper, but it's pretty middling overall.
I love it. I will say it's an album that grows on you... I didn't bond with it at first, but it has really connected with me over time. It has a nice mature sound to it with some actual substance covering a variety of issues in his life. 4:44 may not crack my Top 25 AOTY, but it could easily slip in the Top 50. I don't think it's as good as DAMN or RTJ3.
Still not ready to vote yet, really hard to decide this month. In the running: Fleet Foxes, Planetarium, Lorde, Jason Isbell, Beth Ditto, Algiers, Big Thief, Ride, Benjamin Booker, King Gizz, Ex Eye, Spectre Folk. Tempted to vote Ex Eye after one listen, this shit is awesome.
