Amenra (amen-ra) is a post-metal or sludge metal band from Belgium formed in 1999. The band's main influences are taken from the life (or either chapters) of the frontman Colin Van Eeckhout. Certain topics like death, pain etc are a central point in the band's history. Since the beginning they've been criticized for 'copying' Neurosis (which is sad but they kinda admitted that their earlier work was jumping on the bandwagon of what the scene standed for and a few years ago they kinda made their own path/sound), since that's like the biggest name in that genre but (can't quite remember when exactly) they've toured together since the two frontmen seemed to get along very well. Long story short, but they got signed on their label and now they're like the little brother instead of the 'copycats'.
They're known for their very dedicated fanbase called 'A Church Of Ra'. (since they don't tour a lot and not very far either, people come from very far to see them.) This is the 6th in their series of albums but they've also made some accoustic albums and a few years ago Colin had his own solo project 'CHVE' aswell. Their concerts are very intense because of how the band plays, the visuals, the atmosphere etc.
Their latest Mass VI has more body and story to it. The death of his father, the pain .. It's clearly there. There's room for poetry between the rough riffs and screams, just beautiful. I'd suggest you check out their release show they did last week (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZrFKD0553g) Idk what else I'd say really .. Hope that's enough haha

I loved this and Masseduction equally but for completely different reasons. May as well vote for the underdog when it looks like St. Vincent will run away with it.
HM: Margo Price A. Savage Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett Julien Baker Curtis Harding Yumi Zouma Suno Deko
Still need to listen: Big K.R.I.T., Jessie Ware, Robert Plant, Fever Ray, Gucci, Dan Deacon.
Disappointed: Beck, Bully, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith (but I will give all another chance at a later date).

My October winner: St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION Favorite tracks: Honestly, the whole album is enjoyable, but if I had to pick my absolute top songs, I'll go with "Los Ageless" - "New York" - "Happy Birthday Johnny" - "Savior" - "Slow DIsco" - "Pills" - "Masseduction"
I'm a fairly big St. Vincent fan to begin with, so when this album came out I had big expectations already. With any new release by a fanboy favorite, it took me about 3 listens before I broke away from my expectations and enjoyed the album for what it is. And what it is is another solid, exciting, unique, and creative work of art by Annie Clark. Beck wasn't great on first listen, either, especially when trying to compare it to Morning Phase which was one of the best albums of 2014. But if you also take a step back you'll realize it's an album of pretty amazing straight up pop music, with one of my favorite songs of the month in "Colors". Barnett and Vile is a fun group of songs, with the song-writing tilted a lot more towards Vile, which I appreciate. King Krule was so out there and awesome, but to repeat the opinions of others on the board, it was too long. If it was about two thirds in length, it would've been significantly more impactful. And no, I didn't forget how to count. I've been busier than normal this month (which is why I'm voting so damn late), and I just haven't found a tenth album that grabbed me enough to throw at the bottom of the list. So this month it's only a top nine.
2. Beck - Colors - "Colors" - "Dear Life" - "Dreams" (both versions) - "Up All Night" - "I'm So Free" 3. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile - Lotta Sea Lice - "Over Everything" - "Peeping Tom" - "Untogether" - "Blue Cheese" - "On Script" 4. King Krule - The OOZ - "Dum Surfer" - "The Ooz" - "The Locomotive" - "Emergency Blimp" 5. Lindstrom - It's Alright Between Us as It Is - "Bungle (Like a Ghost) ft Jenny Hval" - "Tensions" - "Shinin'" 6. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - The Kid - "An Intention" - the whole album kinda runs together 7. Robert Plant - Carry Fire - "The May Queen" - "Carry Fire" 8. Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights - "Appointments" - "Claws in Your Back" 9. Yumi Zouma - Willowbank - "Persephone" - "Ostra" - "Depths (Pt. I)"
Nice, a fanclub! Nah, I'm joking thanks (been lurking since last year or so at the Roo threads but found my way to other threads aswell, so why not create an account heh)
Idk if he's mentioned before in this thread but I discovered him this weekend and went to see him yesterday but in August, Angelo De Augustine dropped an album that reminded me of a mix between Nick Drake and Sufjan Stevens. After checking out his album for the first time, I did some research and found out that he was the supporting act during the Planetarium shows this summer and that him and Sufjan worked together on the video of 'Crazy, Stoned & Gone'. (which is cool, because he actually kind of reminded me of Sufjan before I looked that all up) I know it's a bit late and it's November already but if you like indie/folk type stuff, I think you're gonna like him. ps: He was amazing last night haha

There are 53 albums with three or more votes this year, but however only 10 albums have at least seven or more votes. From my standpoint, it's going to be ugly trying to determine seeding with so many 3-4-5 vote albums. If there's a playoff of two vote albums, only a couple at most are getting in. It's been an interesting year to say the least.
I feel like I'm the only one who went away from that album really underwhelmed
I think this just confirms that you don’t have a brain, or a heart.
Nah it's just a worse album than Sprained Ankle and it's not even close for me. I can only listen to someone feel sorry for themselves without making any greater observations or insights over boring arrangements for so long.
