I remember Alabama Shakes released sound and color like a week before their performance at Roo. So did someone else that hasn’t been mentioned. I can’t remember who tho.
Alambama Shakes also had one of the most packed Thursday night shows of all time, if not ever on The Farm.
Alt-J's Thursday crowd was similar. Tents are not ideal for large crowds. You could make a case that the only thing they are good for are day shows from 1-5 for shade.

I'm thinking :
U2(Huge...rare to see live.) / RHCP (popular/ big ,but hits in the 90s...early 2000s)/ Weeknd (young pop/ r&b that the chicks love ) / Chance the Rapper(hip-hop the kids love)
=
Justin Timberlake / Foo Fighters / Frank Ocean / Future (Even thought Future has no reason being #4 )
Maybe bump Future to 5, and have it be :
Justin Timberlake / Foo Fighters / Frank Ocean / The Chainsmokers / Future

U2 are only "rare to see live" for people who have little interest in seeing them live. For anyone else they go on enormous tours every couple years. The Rolling Stones are a much more comparable artist to them than Justin Timberlake in just about every aspect.
I don’t speak like that asshat Scott Stapp, thank you much. Also Creed is possibly worse than anythin’ suggested so far in this smolderin’ fire.

I personally enjoy the chaotic tent shows. Slayer, Danny Brown, Death Grips ect are all some of my favorite shows. Also Netutral Milk Hotel was way more epic because they were in a tent.

I feared for my life at NMH - I was not prepared to be in a mosh pit 10 minutes into the set... what a show

It was definitely a show where you HAD to be moving or else you were going to fall over and die.

Slayer was cool because while there was plenty of people, things still felt open because of the pits that developed. I was on the side in the back at the start of the set, and ended up in the pit with the banana man and captain crunch. i went with the flow and when i got flung out i ended up on the rail shortly before they played "Disciple" (my favorite Slayer song). so that worked out.
Having said that, the Slayer crowd was slimmer then I think it would have been had they not changed the set time after the festival started.

Slayer was one of my favorite shows because you could move around the crowd so easily. There were like three rows of people up front, then the rest of the crowd was just an open moshpit of people thrashing around. I actually got there late because I was at Childish Gambino (I know haha out of all the shows I could have been at Saturday night), but when I got there I was blown away by what I was witnessing. A person next to me asked if I was going to get in the pit, and I just said "not yet I need to take this all in". Then Disciple came on immediately after (also my favorite Slayer song) and it was go time! I've never moved around so freely in a tent before. But having said all that Childish Gambino into Slayer is the weirdest live music decision I've ever made. However, I know I fucked up because I should have done Jamie xx > Atomic Bomb > Slayer > Tycho instead of Jamie xx > Gary Clark > Childish Gambino > Slayer > Superjam.

Pretty boring day at work so I got to making this. Based on a combination of last year's schedule, another LN headliner, and "fixing" LN in a way that will probably not actually happen. I think 3 acts on Other would be noticeably better, and bringing back at least one other act to That tent LN will provide more options too.
Radiohead - Jay-Z - Calvin Harris - Lana Del Rey Childish Gambino - Phoenix - ODESZA - The 1975 - Post Malone The Flaming Lips - MGMT - St. Vincent - Khalid - Above & Beyond The Shins - SZA - Dillon Francis - Primus - STS9 - ZHU - Cut Copy Beach House - Mac Demarco - 21 Savage - Dan Auerbach - Bonobo Superjam! - RL Grime - Alison Wonderland - Tyler, the Creator Lil Yachty - Panda Bear - Moon Taxi - Kaytranada - Rufus Du Sol Washed Out - Shovels & Rope - Charli XCX - Slushii - Danny Brown Excision - What So Not - Sampha - Rag N Bone Man - Temples Bear Grillz - Kelela - Perfume Genius - Bro Safari - Jacob Banks Nothing But Thieves - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - The Growlers
I can't tell if it's too stacked or not.. I tried to make it realistic (with more LN shows like years past) and catering to different tastes! The billing might be a little wonky.

Agreed. This isn't really my cup of tea but based on the schedule I think I would be down with it still because there is almost always at least one act I'd be interested in seeing in each time slot.

Flaming Lips and MGMT? What is this, a crossover episode?
But yeah way too stacked, and like postjack pointed out, way too recognizable. A whole lot of these names would probably be top 25
EDIT: also in regards to the schedule, if you're gonna go with a LN headliner there should be a lot more stuff starting between end of Lana and beginning of Calvin

Friday WHAT: Sampha (5:30-6:30) > Phoenix (7:30-8:45) > Lana Del Rey (9:45-11) > LN Calvin Harris (12:00-1:30) WHICH: Charli XCX (6:45-7:45) > Mac Demarco (8:45-9:45) > MGMT (10:45-11:45) > LN The Flaming Lips (12:45-2) THIS: Jacob Banks (8:45-9:45) > Primus (10:30-11:30) > LN STS9 (1:00-2:30) THAT: Shovels & Rope (7:15-8:15) > Washed Out (9-10) > LN 21 Savage (12:30-1:30) > Bonobo (2-3) OTHER: What So Not (9:15-10:15) > Slushii (10:30-11:30) > LN Excision (12:00-1:00) > Kaytranada (1:15-2:15) > Above & Beyond (2:30-3:30)

Good work! I'd be down with this. Some nitpicks...Radiohead should have more than an hour in a half. I know how the schedule was this year but nobody should ever book Radiohead for less than two hours. I'm also really hoping that's something they fix for next year. Headliners should have two hours. But yeah anyways I wouldn't be mad if Bonnaroo looked something like this next year. You could definitely catch me getting ignorant at 21 Savage LN.
This was fun to look at, thanks for doing it. Having said that, my criticism is that I recognize every name on that list. I am not seeing that vertical drop off in name recognition after about line 5. I think you'd have to cut like 50% of that out to make it more realistic. Just make up names that sound like new EDM acts or indie bands with one EP on Spotify.

LOL. For whatever reason Big Big Time Time is absolutely cracking me up right now. I also love that you kept Moon Taxi haha. But yeah, now that I think about it you're absolutely right. My problem when I make mocks is that I usually get inspiration from other fests of the previous year, so like I was checking out Lolla's 2017 lineup among a few others. I guess the problem there is by the time 2018 rolls around a lot of those names that were 25-50 get bumped up much higher.
With respect to Tycho and the Superjam, you should've been at D'Angelo (which was also pretty epic tonal whiplash haha)
Not related, but I'm dressing as you for Halloween! And by you I mean Todd from Bojack, not whatever you look like in person.

I should have probably gone to D'Angelo. I tried getting into his music before Bonnaroo that year and it just didn't click with me at that time. But in hindsight that would have been the correct choice. But I also didn't know how terrible that superjam would end up being.
Edit: I might also go as Todd for Halloween. We should compare costumes

LOL. For whatever reason Big Big Time Time is absolutely cracking me up right now.
i picture Big Big Time Time as either an EDM act with two animated bros playing pop songs with zero mixing between tracks, or an americana-ish indie act with a charismatic lead singer and snarky lyrics. it could go either way. we'll have to wait until roo 2018 to find out.

I just want to say, you have a gift for creating band names reflective of our time. I remember another hilarious post of yours like this. And you have a knack for matching them to their origin stories.
Have you ever considered an exciting career in the fast-paced world of the music industry? Just imagine how much bigger 21 Savage could be if someone had told him there’s already a Twenty One Pilots. There’s room for someone with your talents!
