I second that, Metallica is awesome, I can understand people not liking them, but what I'm confused about is you putting Cake on there, fuck outta here with that. Also unpopular opinion but... Panic is amazing.
Cake is bad live. Or at least the performance at Music Midtown 2013
Yeah that was pretty bad. He kept going on about vampires, werewolves, and twilight for some reason. I really didn't understand where he was going with it. My friend and I were pretty shocked how bad it was. Bonnaroo 2014 was a little better, but we also had lower expectations at that point.

Honest question, is there anyone who is a fan of Donald Glover the TV star but doesn't like his music? Or vice versa? It seems like the former bouys the later. I've never seen any of his television and I find his music to range from "fine" to outright bad.

Nah his TV stuff is really good. He's a better writer than musician for sure.

I don't really like any Gambino stuff other than Awaken My Love, but Atlanta was brilliant and I loved Community.

PtM was putting out solid albums every year or every other year ish. Then it takes them a long time to put out the most recent, and it just didn't live up to the anticipation, IMO. it's my least favorite.
Awaken My Love is the best musical thing Gambino has done, but I don't feel compelled to listen to that over PFunk who already did it (better).
edit: and to answer the meatball, I really only like Glover the actor/writer. I don't like his rapping at all and his standup wasn't that great.

Yep. I don't care for any of his music but I've pretty much always enjoyed his TV work. He wrote some great 30 Rock episodes, Community was awesome, and Atlanta is one of my favorite shows in recent memory.
I'm a homer for Atlanta, obviously, but you should give it a try. It's super entertaining. The show resides in this nice sweet spot where it can kind of be anything it wants. Not everything they did last season worked but when it hits it's fantastic.

Actor > Musician > Stand Up Comedian
His stand up was pretty bad actually. I tried twice to watch it - no go.
Probably just because I was a teenager for Because the Internet but I think there are plenty of great songs on it. There are some not so great songs too but still a good album. Awaken My Love is impeccable though

Big fan of his TV work. Was impressed and delighted by "Awaken" but listened to it 2-3 times when it came out and haven't picked it back up since. I think "Because The Internet" is a decent album. As a whole I don't listen to it frequently, but I have listened to "Sweatpants" approximately one million times.
I caught his set at Bonnaroo 2015 and was impressed with his performance, I would be pleased to see him live again.
My Donald Glover path was unusual, my first exposure to him was through his stand up special which I loved, then I listened to his music (pre Awaken), then I got into Community, then found out he was a writer on 30 Rock, then I watched Atlanta.
So I mostly love him for his work on Community and Atlanta, which definitely buoys the music. It's a situation where I feel like I know and trust this person as an artist, so I should at the very least pay attention when he's doing something.
I used to really hate his music and love his acting. When he left Community I literally said something like "He's so good at acting and so bad at rapping, but he's determined to do the thing he isn't as good at." I have more respect for his newer stuff, but I don't really listen to it and wouldn't call myself a fan.

I definitely am much more interested in him as an actor than as a musician. Loved him in Community. Have seen twice at Bonnaroo (maybe three times?) but his music, while fine, hasn't really connected with me. Caught his stand up at Roo and enjoyed it. (And the air conditioning.)
I'm really looking forward to his upcoming starring role in the reboot of Greatest American Hero, though.
saw him at ACL in '14 it was fine. he definitely brought the energy. Sweatpants and the Worst Guys are chill. Awaken is far better, but do we really need to say P Funk did it better? Like ok, we don't say stuff like that any time someone's in a rock band generally. Idk I think it's a little weird.
and yes Community is the shiz and I wish him all the success in the world in his endeavors if it raises the profile of the show.
Being real, I can't name one PTM song. I know I've listened to them before, but I can't even remember how any of their songs go. I can't remember what genre they are really. I'm guessing like psychedelic popular rock? Like a jamband with no improvisation and minimal progressive elements.
I can recall every Ben and Jerry's flavor I've ever eaten but I think I delete bands from my head to make room for new ones.

Even though I love PTM this is surprisingly accurate. Although they did get a little jammy at roo.

See I know I have a memory in there somewhere, because it felt right. And I wasn't trying to be a dick with that description, I think of Tame Impala in a similar way, only I'd add Tame Impala adds that shitty indie fuzz tone to everything they do. Goddamnit I can't talk about anything without sounding like a dick today.
