I just watched the tupac hologram video for the first time. I have no idea how I missed it up until now, but good grief, that was incredible. How on Earth did they do that? Serious question. I bet it cost a fortune. Was anyone there to see it live?

One of my best friends was, his group was messed up off drugs and they were freaking out for a second thinking it was real.
So, second line spots, let's go. Who'd I leave out or mis-classify?
LOCK OR NEAR LOCK
-Miguel - tour dates -ODESZA - tour dates -Fleet Foxes - per a couple message board folks -Kygo - per message board confirm (reddit)
LIKELY - GV CONNECTIONS
-HAIM - fall SB show, GV loves them -The War on Drugs - all over GV social media, fall Greek show -Tyler, the Creator - Camp Flog Naw -Anderson Paak - FYF, 2016 Coachella, maybe first name on third line though? -The Chainsmokers - Hangout, 2016 Coachella -RL Grime - Shrine show in the fall -Portugal. the Man - Hangout Fest, maybe first name on third line though?
WILD CARDS
-Alesso - message board confirm, but taking for a grain of salt if we already have 'Smokers/Grime/Kygo/ODESZA -QOTSA - message board confirm by multiple sources, but would be the biggest radius clause breach ever -Arctic Monkeys - no more album announcement yet; had heard it's coming out H1'18 which would put them in play, but who knows as this drags out -The 1975 - new album looks done, on the "leaked" Bonnaroo bill, GV loves them -The National - "coincidental" April opening, small fall '17 tour run feeling more and more like that radio show isn't taking them out of the running -St. Vincent - playing Hangout fest and seems so obvious, would be another radius clause breach however -N.E.R.D. - new music, Coachella would be a likely place for them -Grizzly Bear - could see them get left on the booking room floor given the strength of potential second liners if PT doesn't feel it makes sense
LONG SHOTS
-Alabama Shakes - GV favorite, but seem like a year off -Chemical Brothers - just announced first show of 2018 -David Byrne - awful lot of touring with no U.S. dates -ELO - fall 2018 tour means they'll be active again -Jawbreaker - here's to hoping -D'Angelo - March European tour -Grace Jones - booked for spring festivals -SZA - I imagine she's a third liner, but gotten so big that I wouldn't be shocked if she's on line 2 -Judas Priest - TME covered this; seems like things are lined up but would be 4 straight nights -A Perfect Circle - a lot of spring festivals; MJK history with Coachella -The Libertines - dream baby, dream
Those Lock/Likely/Wildcard categories are not exciting at all.
I dunno, a lineup like this would probably have me pretty excited. Who are you anticipating that it's missing?
Depeche Mode Arctic Monkeys - Kygo - N.E.R.D. - A Perfect Circle - Miguel - the War on Drugs
Beyonce The National - ODESZA - the 1975 - HAIM - RL Grime - Tyler, the Creator
The Weeknd The Chainsmokers - Queens of the Stone Age - Fleet Foxes - David Byrne - Alesso - Anderson Paak
I wasn't trying to say you were missing anything. I don't think your mock is very exciting but I didn't think the second line was great last year either and the lineup was still good so I'm not worried about it.
I could have sworn I read (probably in this very thread) that the chainsmokers don't want to headline major festivals yet because their catalog isn't deep enough.
5.5/four tet, daphni b2b floating points, avalon emerson 5.12/neil young 5.19/mannequin pussy 5.21/serpentwithfeet 5.25/hozier 6.12-16/bonnaroo 6.28/goose 6.29/goose 9.17/the national + the war on drugs 9.23/sigur ros 9.27-29/making time 10.17/air

What musician would turn down 7-8 million dollars because "they don't have a deep catalog?" Theyll get up there and play other people's songs for that money.

You think the guys who said “Even before success, pussy was number one,” and who put their dong measurements on their website would actually turn down headlining Coachella?
Isn’t Jamiriquai already confirmed? They’ll end up second line if so. I feel like there are plenty of other names who will make up the second line from outside the rumor mill. Orbital for instance has been working on new stuff and I haven’t seen their name pop up on any mocks. I think we are in store for some surprises.
Edit: also, Depeche Mode has to play! Long time, trust worthy coachella boardies said they were plus they are touring just like they did last time around! Those 4 nights in LA should have guaranteed they are a lock to all!!

Coachella booking the Chainsmokers to headline is the death knell of major North American music festivals. It either confirms that a. There are so few quality acts available to tour and headline major music festivals that "elite" festivals are reaching for such garbage and/or b. AEG/Live Nation are so fat and happy with the current status of festivals (raising prices >10% a year for worse and worse lineups) that they are fine putting out mediocre shit with no regard for quality control.
Either way, when a festival like Coachella is booking the Chainsmokers to solo headline, it's a sad day - even for the LN fanboys. Just opens the floodgates for the continued watering down of festival headliners. And this is far from the level of booking Calvin Harris as a third headliner with two huge rock reunions in 2016, and we all thought that was a new low. Might be my last year going to Coachella.
Keep in mind that this fest didn’t have to book the chainsmokers to move tickets. Best part about this festival imo is excellent counter programming and a desire to satisfy its entire base. I really just don’t care who headlines at this point. Legends are dwindling.
