Last year I went and hung out at the beach outside the venue and could hear the main stage well enough. If you get there in time to get a good spot I think you can even see the stage screens. I live like 5 mins from this festival and I'm not even sure it's worth the price for me.
The demographics of the festival and the area are why the festival can get away with charging so much. They cater to an older audience and the surrounding areas are mostly upper class (average household income for Dana Point is $120k).

I'm kind of worried about The Strokes because they seem to play up or down based on the energy in the crowd / their interest in playing that particular night. I can see Julian strutting out there in front of 5,000 baby boomers and people who have a 3rd home in Dana Point and just decide to throw in the towel.
Upon further reflection, I want to see if they're doing a broader tour and maybe I'll catch their NorCal date and visit friends up there for that if I'd already be in +$200 to see them in LA.
Lineup for the 2022 edition coming on Monday, 4/11. Tickets on sale Wednesday.
I went to the "Encore" weekend last year, and the whole thing was amazing. Not cheap, but amazing. Hoping there are two weekends again this year and I can just find an 11-day Airbnb and work remotely in between. Thanks Covid, for teaching me this was possible.

I've spent more on VIP at other fests and been disappointed in the experience. This was a great GA experience--felt most like BottleRock, but smaller and with less wine. Moving back and forth, I saw every band from right up front until the pre-headliners, when the crowd got thicker. Even so, with just a small wait I saw Pearl Jam from the 3rd/4th row, right in front of Mike McCready.
But yeah, I'm dreading what prices will jump to this year.

it's so close to home that it's a shame I haven't been yet. we'll see what the lineup looks like though!

Didn't even realize we had an Ohana thread at all. We went for just a day last year and I was pleasantly surprised, and I definitely second the Bottlerock vibe. Very low-key festival, comfortably sized, would return if there's a solid day, though I probably wouldn't shell out for the whole thing. Second-hand tickets for the encore weekend were going for less than half of face value last year, for what it's worth.
Headliners aren't great, but the top 15 has some pretty great indie rock gems.. Broken Social Scene performing You Forgot it in People is an amazing get
