If you guys are excited for Rihanna, I'm super pumped for you. You can twist my and Strawman's words (I called the potential set B-tier, not her), but it's weird how whenever Rihanna headlining comes up, people act like this stuff never happened over multiple tours:
For comparison sake, her 2016 tour grossed less total AND per site than The Weeknd's 2017 tour ($40m vs. his $60m) , who was the "soft headliner" for 2018. She grossed $1.1m a show vs. past headliners like Drake ($2.2m per show), AC/DC ($1.5m per show), GnR ($2.6m on their SECOND reunion tour lap), etc.
Great artist, icon, doesn't do festivals a lot? Sure. Doesn't move tickets like most premiere headliners? Also sure.
Agree with the first part, disagree with the second. 2019-2020 Rihanna sells out arenas and moves tix at any fest she's at. In the three going on four years from ANTI, her absence from touring and the brand she's built since adds so much imo

Ok?
Coldplay's 2016 tour was the fifth highest grossing tour of all time. I can't find a final number for Astroworld, but it was at $34 million with 10 shows left and on pace to crack 50. Even if we accept your read on Rihanna's draw in 2019 (I don't, but whatever), that makes her the "weak" headliner in a very strong trio.
One hell of a B tier. What does it take to get an A from you? Three nights of Bruce?
Coldplay blows Radiohead out of the water in popularity Rihanna is below Beyonce but as far as pop goes, Rihanna is the next biggest after her. Maybe a toss up between her and Taylor. But Rihanna was made for the current Coachella crowd, idk how her solo shows sell but her Coachella draw would be massive. A lot of people will watch because they won't fork over the money for a solo show of hers. Kendrick was and still is bigger than Travis, but Travis has closed the gap a lot with Astroworld and if his new album blows up, there could be an argument that they're even in popularity until Kendrick drops something new as well.

Lol Travis is for sure bigger now than Kendrick. Whether that remains the same when both drop albums in the next 12 months who knows? Easy reference point is his single day at day n Vegas selling out first.
Besides Travis being more mainstream, he is mostly bigger than Kendrick now simply because he put out new material more recently.
Travis has a lot of mainstream listeners, but Kendrick is obviously more respected, seen as the/a top guy for younger age, and critically acclaimed. Also not even sure if Travis is much bigger, especially when it comes to dedicated fanbase. Astro did 537k week 1 sales by cheating with bundling every piece of merch and tickets with an album DAMN did over 600k week 1 w/o merch bundles
Travis has 1-2 number 1s, One has Drake and the other he just used more merch bundles to cheat again (Billboard has to fix this shit, ruining records). Kendrick has 1-2 number 1s, Humble and the song with Taylor Swift if you count that
I'm pretty sure Kendrick can do over 600k next time, lot of people waiting on him. Rap has been pretty weak as of late and Kendrick hasn't dropped since April of 2017 (not counting soundtrack tape). It might be nearly 3 years since he has dropped
Yeah he just needs another album to be back on top, but high school kids aren’t very familiar (or at least don’t seem all that interested) with his discography at the moment. Travis’ rise was at the right time.

I was gonna complain that the chart implies that the Gathering is more prestigious than Roo but then I remembered Roo has never landed Twiztid, so touché.

I know your question isn't looking for an honest answer because you seem to have something against me, but for "Biggest Headliners" compared to the last four years I'd put it roughly tied with 2017 (mega pop star, most successful alternative band ever, massive rap star hitting a creative and cultural peak), behind 2016 (two reunions including one massive bucket list) and 2018 (biggest pop star alive, best selling rapper ever, big crossover R&B star), and ahead of 2019.
IIRC Rihanna has charted better than Beyoncé, at least for singles.
It's sort of a wash. ANTI produced a number one single with "Work", but Lemonade had more top 40 singles than ANTI did (5 to 2); both albums came out before the streaming rules changed so make of that what you will. Prior to ANTI, Rihanna had two big hits with "FourFiveSeconds" and "Bitch Better Have My Money"; after Lemonade Beyoncé had a number one hit with "Perfect Duet". Rihanna has had more #1 singles than Beyoncé (10 to 6) and more top 40 singles than Beyoncé (per what Wikipedia counts as a lead single, 36 to 26). However, if you include Destiny's Child, Beyoncé ties Rihanna for #1 singles and edges her out on top 40 singles.
I think a lot of what it comes down to is that Beyoncé has been around longer than Rihanna has and her albums tend to be more critically acclaimed.

So yeah, 3rd or 4th out of 5 is roughly B tier.
I have nothing against you, I just strongly the dislike the content of your posts. But thanks for sharing your highly subjective ranking of the last few years, definitely makes you seem more reasonable and in touch.

Kendrick is my favorite rapper of all time but if they both drop in the next 6 months I still think Travis will be bigger. He has his hands all over hip hop culture in ways Kendrick has never. Fashion, Branding, Documentary, high profile relationship, collaborations with any and every body. His height right now is incredible and this is his prime. Who knows what happens in 5,10 years but Travis is going nuts right now.

Wait until Post Malone silently takes all that away from Travis in 3 years.

And? At least Radiohead doesn’t need to have daft punk on a song or proclaim theyre making “experimental” music. They just do what they do and do it well. They never gave a shit about needing to be a stadium band. Theyve played em out of need in certain places but theyre content with whats given. Besides, Coldplay wouldnt even be where they are if they werent so good at riding others coattails

The only reason Weeknd was “soft” was because he had played recently and was headlining every festival under the sun. But he still had the pull to basically headline Coachella twice in 3 years. It’s not like he’s the Strokes or some shit.
Rihanna has none of the overexposure arguments going against her. And yeah, if you want to compare The Weeknd’s most successful tour with Rihanna’s most successful they’re relatively even, but Rihanna has 3-4 other tours under her belt that sold as well or even better. So we’re talking Weeknd at what will probably turn out to be his commercial peak vs. just another tour for Rihanna.

Shifting gears, is there any chance The Strokes could be a sub? Co-headlined last time they played, not top-3 at Lolla. I’m guessing they’d have to at least co- headline, but figured I’d see what y’all think / change the topic somehow.

I remember hearing/reading some rumors few months ago that they are booked for Just Like Heaven fest. It makes more sense, I think.
They are like Phoenix in that I don't see them ever coming back just to take a lesser position (unless we're talking about some reunion tour 20 years from now).

That's the same rumor that said Just like Heaven were trying to book LCD and The Strokes? This year sold out pretty fast, and if those are the headliners for next year, it might be even crazier in 2020. Of all festival rumors I've heard over the past year or so, this is the one I want to be true the most.

I recall those rumors as well, and don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a fool’s errand to ever *expect* The Strokes to play. Just trying to figure out how much give there’d be if they were booked.
Re: just like heaven, is that even happening this year? Feels like there’s not a super long shelf life for that fest given the really limited scope of acts it targeted this year. But they could easily do another couple years.
