The Whitest Boy Alive are doing festivals next year. Could definitely see them back here, but selfishly hoping for Prima instead.
I'm really curious to see what Prima ends up looking like. I have a feeling everyone's getting a little too excited about what it could be; it's hard to imagine a LiveNation-produced fest being that interesting, even if it's in partnership with Primavera.
I’ve been wondering whether Coachella is intentionally going after more of the Prima type acts this year to try to nuke the fest before it can get off its feet. (On its feet?)
I kinda figured that LiveNation might push some big names, but leave the undercard to the festival's own devices. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but given the history of this fest I doubt they would allow a partner to strip away their identity in the midst of an expansion.

Look at Intersect. Live Nation had a hand in it, if thats the potential that could be achieved then Primavera should be fine.
The only way Primavera becomes a factor is if it follows the FYF trajectory and ends up expanding quickly to a less intimate location. Live Nation will obviously push that path because they wont have the patience to grow a brand organically.

Ah, I didn't realize LN was involved in Intersect. Difference there is the financial backing of Amazon which affords them much more flexibility, but it's a good counter-point.
How did Live Nation have a hand in Intersect aside from the tickets being sold on Ticketmaster?
Organization perhaps?
I mean, they certainly could be involved but I don't see that listed anywhere. We know it's funded by AWS, produced by Production Club, and booked by the guy that books Form Arcosanti. Anyone can use ticketmaster as a service to sell tickets to their events without Live Nation having hand in anything else.
Travis(Friday) Coldplay(Saturday) Rihanna(Sunday) would maybe be the most stacked headliners that I've seen in terms of dedicated fan bases for all. Lana would be a smooth sub for either Coldplay or Rihanna.

Radiohead - Beyonce - Kendrick is probably bigger. All three of those have incredibly valid arguments at being the best in their genre

Yeah honestly Travis/Coldplay/Rihanna just looks like a B or C version of those

I think y'all are letting your subjective opinions about quality get in the way here. Coldplay is bigger than Radiohead, and Travis versus Kendrick is a wash at best. A lot of people like bad music.

Counter-point: being popular also doesn't mean they are big/quality headliners.
Rihanna and Coldplay headlined Made in America fest in 2016. She hasn't played many fests for seemingly a lack of interest and a so-so live show, Coldplay hasn't gotten a lot of run in recent festivals because they've been a tweener act (are they legacy or current? are they rock or pop or experimental blah?) and Travis Scott has essentially headlined every fest in the last ~18-24 months.

Just copied braundiggity and did a quick Google Trends + Spotify comparison.
According to these metrics, Kendrick was about 5x popular than Travis when DAMN came out, then interest wanes and Astroworld is released, Travis is on top since. Their average interest over the last 5 years is equal on Google. They played similar venues on their tours, I'd say they are pretty on par but that could totally change with a new Travis record.
Coldplay blows Radiohead out of the water on both platforms. Not even a contest.

It would be a solid B tier of headliners.
It's truly impressive how you never run out of ways of arguing against reality.
I believe the adjective "big" applies to popular headliners. Seems like the argument we should be making is one set of headliners is just more critically acclaimed instead.

Exactly. Kendrick also headlined everywhere the year before Coachella. Their last tours sold similarly. He's a perfect comp for Travis in everything but critical acclaim.

Yeah, it's more of a "prestige" thing. Radiohead is obviously less popular than Coldplay, but more prestigious. Kendrick is comparably popular to Travis, but more prestigious. Beyonce is probably more popular than Rihanna, and more prestigious.
Radiohead is a prestige headliner like Tool or The Cure or something (see the legacy-act formula from the past few years). They book em because they're critically praised and always look great on line ups. Coldplay just moves a ton of tickets and those headliners are needed aswell.
Coldplay, Rihanna and Travis Scott aka Made in America Festival 2016
2016 was a long time ago for Rihanna and Trav
I mean Rihanna hasnt dropped anything since, but im mostly fucking around and tbh Made in America had a run of years with some pretty good headliners: Jay Z, Pearl Jam, Kanye, Beyonce, NiN, etc
