Just a little thing I worked on before I post this on Reddit. FYI the Oasis Dome was introduced in 2011 (one year only), Yuma introduced in 2013 and Sonora introduced in 2017.
And for various reasons, here's how the lineups stack up if you remove those extra stages mentioned earlier.
Really good job and great charts, TME. I honestly didn’t expect the drop in rock acts to be THAT pronounced. It seems to me like there is a step change decline between 2013 and 2014 followed by steady declining and plateauing, then another step change decline between 2018 and 2019. I could be stretching, but I think these two things are direct responses to 1. 2013 - absolute cluster fuck at the Stone Roses and Blur shows (big money reunions that were essentially laughing stocks) and 2. 2018 - numerous rock acts get near empty fields on the Outdoor, with Maynard of APC (and others I believe?) even expressing anger/disappointment in the media.
Obviously this is a trend that goes beyond Coachella, but laying it out this clearly and seeing how the trend line / data develops its hard not to think those two years really influenced PT to directly decrease rock the following year(s) until some year or act convinced him to re-invest.
Just saw this post that Oana Stanescu, one of the artists this year, posted with what I assume is concept art for what she will be bringing to Coachella.

Just realized Sama' is playing, now I'm really hyped. But of course she's on Saturday of all days...
had never heard of her but happened to be listening when she came on as part of the Apple Music/Beats 1 end-of-year mix special. absolutely tears it up

Anyone here familiar with Summer Walker? I just listened to her for the first time and wasn't impressed at all, just generic industry-plant-like R&B? Boneless SZA.

I checked her last album the other day, it wasn't that bad, but Saturday is already packed, so it's an easy skip for me.
James Blake DJ sets are very underrated. Would love him as a Do LaB special guest.
Nice. Is there anyone else you’d check out? Any rare gets?
It’s my second favorite festival, half of my Coachella group is going.
It’s tough that it’s hardly one month after weekend one, but we play the cards we get
I'd check out Four Tet, Emancipator, Lion Babe, Wajatta (a bit of a rare get), Amon Tobin (looks like his club alias, which is cool), DJ Shadow, Noisia, EPROM, Nina Kraviz, Bob Moses, Stefan Bodzin, ARTBAT and Romare. Have fun!

Don’t believe anybody else here is in the Phoenix area, but my buddy is promoting the 999999999 show down here on 2/7. So here’s a shameless plug for it if you live in the valley.
