This is a little early to be planning routes, but i'm obsessed so here goes.
Ok, so every year i come down the i-24 from nashville, usually arriving around noon at the manchester exit, but i can't get off at the manchester exit, instead i'm herded to an exit 15 minutes down the road (Pelham exit?) where i'm told to get off the highway and take a long country road into the back entrance of the farm.
This is not where i want to go, i would much rather get into the lineup on the northwest bound side of the freeway that lets you off at the temporary exit. So how do i do it?
1. Do i just need to show up earlier? Like if i'm there at 9am will they put me in a better lineup?
2. Can i just keep going south east until the exit after Pelham, turn around and then just head straight into the freeway lineup?
great questions. i showed up earlier last year than in '06 and was re-routed to what you are talking about and ended up with a much worse and farther camping spot and sat in traffic for 2 hours more.....
im not real sure if there is any true rhyme or reason to how they get everyone in there.
They fill up BFE first, then they fill in the area behind tent only and then move in columns (front to back) until they fill up the campground in front of Bushy Branch, and then they fill in the camps in back of Bushy Branch.
I watched it happen last year. I was in access and got there at about 8am.
The best time to get in the gates is early afternoon.

Hey everybody, I've got a question about 'BFE'... My wife and I were routed to DAY PARKING in '03. The walk was huge down a paved road if I remember correctly. Where is this BFE you speak of in relation to the Serious BFE of day parking '03?

Last year, a friend in my group had his car break down just outside Nashville. We loaded most of our gear into his car so we had room to fit everyone in We got in line coming from Monteagle to the southeast, but when my friend got towards Manchester (heading east on 24) he wasn't allowed to drive past and turned around. He tried telling a trooper he wasn't going to the festival and just camping, but that didn't work. He had to take that exit and was parked near Pete Rose Way. He joined the rest of our caravan and camped with us all weekend much closer. But I hate parking out there, and I've been adjacent to Pete Rose Way three of the five years I've gone.
Anyway... I wouldn't say the U-turn is a guaranteed solution here.
Maps can't tell you anything you can't figure out yourself with mapquest. Besides there is no "one" way to get a good site. THP will direct you diferently every year. Some trooper will let you turn around, some won't. And sometimes they direct traffic on back roads so that may or may not work either.
Best bet (but no guarantees) is to arrive between 10am and 1pm on Thursday and hope for the best. This will likely be the time after they've filled BFE in lower right of map and before they start filling BFE in Upper right. But once again, no guarantees.
Best to just plan a couple ways to get there and see which feels good when you get close. Don't sweat the trafiic. Try to enjoy the jam and arrive in a good mood. Be nice to other travelers and hope Karma pays you back.

My friend and I are driving up from Louisiana, picking two friends up from the Nashville airport on wednesday evening, finding a hotel somewhere, and planning to get in line around noon on Thursday. From all of the posts i've seen, the best way to NOT be stuck in BFE is to go to exit 112 on I-24W..
So, what's the best way to get there, originally coming from nashville? If we leave the airport around 10:30pm, will we be able to make it pretty smoothly on I-24 E, past the 'roo, find a hotel and then come back up north? Any other suggestions from the veterans? This is our first time, so any advice is greatly appreciated
sounds like a good plan dude... you better book that hotel in advance, but from what i've seen, they start directing southbound traffic to bushy branch and northbound goes to I-24 exit

Best bet may be to go from the airport to Walmart in Manchester, party with the Roo Crew all night and head to Roo with the caravan in the morning.
this is a huge fear for me too! this is our first Roo and i know that walking is 'part of the experience', but i also know that being closer will most likely equal more rest. and more rest always means more dancing and having fun.
So I plan on driving from indianapolis with some friends and wont show up until about 5 or 6pm thursday. Would I be better off driving around manchester and then come up from the south which will take an extra hour or just follow the rest of the crowd that is traveling southbound from nashville.
Yeah, just stay on the interstate (24). You'll see the exit on your left, the other side of the highway, and you just have to drive until you see the end of the line, get off at the next available exit, and get back on going the other way.
Bonnaroo traffic lines up on the shoulder of the highway, so even that side doesn't really get backed up. Be prepared to sit in your car for two or three hours, though. Some people have waited four. The wait's really not that bad, however, as you're pretty much there...and there are plenty of people walking by to talk to if you're easily bored.
last year i had to pick up friends at the air port and it was my first year not coming right into manchester via tullahoma or hwy55....we got to the man. exit and was the second car about to start the turn and THP sent us all down to the uhhh can't remember the exit # but we turned around and got in the line and 4 hours later were there...but...
That year and every other year I have had decent camping and HAD A BLAST!

Do you think this will all change with less tickets being sold this year? For example, they fill up BFE first (which seems to be how they do it from Bushy Branch) and end up not having enough people to fill closer to centeroo? Would they start by filling up closer and come out to bfe? Does that make sense?
